(No Vid) Constructive Criticism

I make footbag videos.
In fact, I love makeing footbag videos.

However, so few people actually comment on the 'production values' set upon the videos that I, and other people, make.
I really enjoy getting feedback about the videos I make, even if it's just a 'cool vid' or something like that. It makes me feel like the effort I went to - to make a footbag film for you - is actually appreciated. But I don't see enough comments about the structure of the actual film.
Was it visually exciting? Where there any camera angles that didn't work? How was the use of transitions? Were there any lighting issues that the film maker should be aware of, next time? Did the music fit with the film? Was everthing in sync?
They're the sort of things I need to know before I make another film, so that I can make a better one next time. And I assume that other film makers are after the same sort of thing.

I try to write a comment on every video I download. Unfortunately, I can't do it for every video.

If you make footbag films, I assume that you'd download other peoples footbag videos to get ideas for editing and angles and such? I do.
So, if you take something away from someone's vid, post what it was.

Comment on their work, because you know you'd appreciate the same.

yeah i was kind of disappointed. I went through and edited some videos together. Posted them, and no one even said a word. No comment. I just kind of felt let down.

Hopefully people will actually watch my next one.

I'm really bad at posting after watching a movie. Mostly this is because I'm too stupid to know what combos were good and I'm really dumb when it comes to good stuff to post about production value. The most I can ever say is: good job, I liked it or something stupid like that that simply makes me feel STUPID. I think I watched your last video and enjoyed it. Thanks for making stuff for me to watch, it keeps me going.

I feel similar to Sen. I often don't know what to say regarding the technical aspects of the video OR the shred. I try to comment on videos anyways.

I agree. It's so harsh not getting comments, and I try to comment on every video I watch, if not there's usually a reason why I don't, rather than laziness or disinterest.

I'd love to hear more constructive criticism too. We should form a club. I'm going to hijack Gareth and Henry and call it Gareth's Video Club. Yay. Let's criticize each others videos

Battle videos are very good for this purpose too, though -- that's basically what the battle videos originated as -- pure editing. Votes were based on editing and camera skills/creativity.

Now whenever I post criticism on a video, aside from the actual shred, I will write, "Gareth's Video Club constructive criticism:" and continue to talk about the actual video -- this will justify my "being a jerk".

I watch too few videos [mostly because dad doesn't want me to load any "shit" here (with "shit" I think he means viruses - I guess - not the videos themselves]. If I watched more videos I'd definitely be there to comment the editing and angles and such things and - without trying to sound arrogant - I think I could give proper feedback. I've been to a digital video course and a digital video editing course and I think I know at least something about these things. Even more that I know about the footbag tricks or combos: I hardly ever remember any bigger tricks' (bigger than the tricks I'm hitting) names or definitions, and I suck even more when trying to recognize them from video.
A good example of true dedication for film making at an amateur level is First Day Out 2005, made by Jere Vainikka. You can see that the story is planned, so are the angles and the editing is marvelous. I've never watched any of your vids Gareth, but I think I'll load that [insert title here] tomorrow.

And I'd like to join the Gareth's Video Club too.
