Derek Vandall Extra

Post by Muffinman »

I decided to make a video last night from some old, unused Derek footage that's been sitting on my computer for a year, while trying to clean up my harddrives. It's very rough and the clips are pretty much in order of their filenames in the folder I found them in. There was still a lot I left out, but thought I should salvage some of this before I delete it all. I didn't put much consideration into the song, but I think it worked out.
It's pretty lame quality. I actually figured out how to export at higher quality in widescreen, but it gave me an unknown error, so I decided to stick with this, especially since I don't really have space to host anything much larger.

Man, what a great vid. I love Derek's style, so easy. For some reason I was thinking the other night about what players in the world could duck their nukes... Sorry to say I'd forgotten about Derek!

Thanks for the comments, guys!
I don't know if Derek has played even once since Christmas. Don't quote me, but I haven't talked to him or seen him since. I don't think he plays on his own either :( And I don't think he has hit a beast, Anssi, though he's had a bajillion roll of his foot!

Y'know Erik, I used to watch your videos and feel totally inspired to make a video...

The only difference now is that I actually have the means to do so. :)

I just got a freaking awesome editing idea. Time consuming and tedious, but I'm picturing it, and it would rock. :D

Thanks for the inspiration.

Also, Derek rocks. It's too bad you aren't in touch more.

Derek's got a cool style. I haven't seen footage of him in ages. Good to see.
Thanks for sharing Erik.

i felt like i was watching someone who had died when i watched that video. it was so like peaceful and light and easy. dereks personality and style really match. he was one of the coolest people i met at worlds. i hope one day his passion for footbag comes back.

i have got to agree with david on this one. it did seem like i was watching a memorial video. it was slightly eerie. any way, don't listen to erik. derek has played a bunch since christmas. he was playing in may, but then was struck with appendicitus (sp?) and had to have surgery to remove it. he has been unable to play since then, but i talked with him today and he says he is feeling better daily and might be up to shred some time soon. i miss that guy

That video was cool! I hope he comes back to play.

Around 2:30... was that Nuclear Ducking Butterfly? Does that have a name? That, and a few other moves made me go 8O !!! Thanks Chan, thanks Derek!

Yeah. Me and Derek are old buds from Highschool. I've recently just started trying to learn footbag because of the vids of him ive seen on Hackrifice.com. We chat a lot and he says he still plays.

Also, seems as this is my first post, hi everyone. Im Stephen Bishop, from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I don't even have my bags from the mail yet (ordered from the web and their on the way) so thats how newb i am. Looking foreward to getting started.

Nice to see you, Stephen. You're in the right place if you want to learn freestyle. The three freestylers in Winnepeg are some of the best players in Canada.

I can't believe I haven't commented on this vid. I'm a huge Vandalizer fan, huge ! I like this vid, it's nice and lengthy with good quality. the shred is ok...j/k. Shred is off the hooook, the slow-mos show how huge he can bust with such control, i love it ! All sorts of sweet combos left and right, and the bastard makes it look easy !

Derek is now my favortie player, tied with Lon. Everyting he did was so fluid and smooth, and he hit some tough stuff in that vid... I hope one day I get to shred with him and see what he's hitting recently.

Thanks for the continuing replies! I'm so happy! :D
If you like Derek and haven't seen him play before check out the videos on www.hackrifice.com -- particularly:

http://www.hackrifice.com/shred/hackrifice040220.wmv (janiwalker > janiwalker, blurry whirl > janiwalker [bs], superflies, fearless, ripped warrior > sidewalk [repeat], VOMIITTT)
http://www.hackrifice.com/shred/derekspecial.wmv (blurry drifter > blurry torque > blurry drifter > blu... @_______@)
http://www.hackrifice.com/shred/temp/su ... andall.wmv (mobius > pdx torque [bsos], fury > dimwalk [bsos])

...and his old MOTW videos...69 > blurriest, whirling swirl > whirlygig, blurry torque > blurry torque, matador > blurry whirl [repeat], peeking mobius, gauntlet, montage, blah blah blah...he's basically invincible.
