Yesterday I faced a challenging decision - do I study for my English Diploma (worth 50% of your course mark) or go shred with Kevin and Rory at the YMCA??

Well, I ended up just reading over some study notes/tips, an essay and a few other papers for roughly 30 - 45 minutes then made the trip to Edmonton. I don't know if I should have or not - I may or may not have done well on the essay but oh well. Actually, it was a super fun session so I was happy I attended. No regrets Byrin, no regrets.

Two guy's came out - James and Tom - who seem VERY willing to play and learn freestyle. Tom even said "I want to learn how to do THAT *as he points to Rory doing tiltless tricks*" so I think we may have sucked in someone!

Rory had some really good strings, Kevin was going all out with atomic and pixie shuffle and I don't know what I was doing. My zooming wasn't as great, most likely due to my ankles, but I did have some good runs. After the Y closed, we ventured across the parking lot to play underneath a light on the side of a high school. Despite the incredible amount of attention brought on by mosquitos, everyone ended up hitting something new :)

As for me...

Phoenix > Pdx Torque bs
Mobius > Pdx Torque bs
Gyro DLO bsos
Some good pixie shuffle runs
Spinning Butterfly > Ducking Butterfly > rpt
Pixie ss Mirage > Atomic Pickup > rpt > run
40 odd contacts of Osis > ss Clipper first attempt
Gyro Barroque unsealed
Tapping DLO bs (For you Joe!)
Almost had Spinning Osis > Mobius bsos
Came moderately close to Little Apple bsos

I wonder if I should play tonite. Hmmm....

ahaha, he kept trying Gyro Barroque, and I said to him, "Don't be mad at me if you land it and I tell you it was the."

"I won't be."

*hits it*

"Nope. The."

"...I'm not mad. "

He was trying Mobius b2b too Ken. His zooming out of torque needs work, but it's definitely getting there. :)

Hahahhaa, I was just thinking about that when I seen you post in here Kevin! I think I hit it twice or three times and you just shook your head and I was all "Damn it " The ONLY one that Kevin did not witness felt soooo good and it was off my damn foot. Shucks :/

To answer your question Ken, yes I have hit Mobius back to back and on both sides. It's hard, and like Kevin says I really need to work on having a solid stop of momentum on the Torques, but I did manage it. With the situation regarding my ankles, it's hard to zoom since my ankle crankage is suffering but I'm allowing it to rest until Monday.

I haven't kicked since last Monday evening with the crew and I don't think I'll kick until Monday - maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe Friday if I can go into the city to meet the crew AND if my ankles feel fine by then but Monday is a definite date. ShrEdmonton is just over a week away and I haven't hit my Shred 30 yet!! I have to get it and work on my Sick 1 and 3. I have too!

Joe Kulacz will be leaving Wednesday, which is in ONE FREAKIN WEEK, to come here!! We are going to hit Mind Bender in front of The Mind Bender - THE WORLDS LARGEST INDOOR ROLLER COASTER!!!!! Man oh man, the anxiety grows. My second footbag jam and I can't wait to meet everyone. I'm going to kick with everyone, party with everyone and get to know everyone before that weekend is over :):):):).

For some reason, despite the fact that not too much has happened over here in Onoway, I have a lot to blab about. It must be that ShrEdmonton excitement growing! Here are some random things concerning me these days:

===============================================

I've been really tired lately but last nite I played Pokemon for about 3.5 hours after taking a two hour nap at 7pm. I have two teams to face against Joe - one of them is the one I'm using to beat the game (I'll leave them at level 60) and the other is purely strategic and they are at level 51.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I feel equally as tired with the added bonus of soreness, but I'm happy as can be. I just withdrew just over two thousand for spending money for my trip to England in July (for roughly 4 weeks!!) leaving me flat broke. I also went to the gym with a good friend of mine and my chest and arms have that sensation of being deathly sore tomorrow. We did about 40 minutes of cardio so that adds to the tired factor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been meaning to call Sam and talk to him before he comes up here, firstly to apologize for mistaking him for someone else and secondly to find out who is all coming from Montana. Of course, we are going to talk about ShrEdmonton and both be as excited as can be. I'm afraid that if I talk to him I will have the sudden, extreme urge to play footbag which is what I don't want to do at this time. Ah well, I'll phone him anyways :D:D:D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I scored 80% on my Physics final and plan on achieving that or higher on the diploma on the 23rd.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow is the last day of high school (holy crap) and I also get ice cream in my English class. Score!!

That's about it. I have to go so my sister can use the computer :)

got some bad news for you hombre. sam's not gonna be able to afford shrEdomonton so he can't go. I think Lovely might be going but I'm not sure. if he is, then he is the only one going :( I need to make it out to Canadialand some time before I die and when I go, we are going to kick until our legs fall off of our bodies  YOU'RE GOING DOWN MISTER!!!!!!!!!

Shiiiiiiiiiit, not cool! I hope things work out for Sam. Kevin, it is on when you come up here  !!!

I tested out my ankles with about an hour's worth of footbag this evening. Despite the fact that I took most of the week off and that last nite was spent drinking and playing Risk until 6 in the morning (woke up at 10), I thought it went alright. I'm as rusty as a ever but I didn't go into it with the intention to hit big, just to test the ankle and do a bit of going over.

I did hit some new tricks which I was happy about, they are Spinning DLO and Pixie ss DLO (both on both sides). My ankle still hurts, as though it didn't get better at all but perhaps that is due to the lack of sleep I've been getting. Next session will be held on Monday :)

Sunday evening I had a kick with Rory for 3 hours and to my happiness my ankles were not acting up. I put on A535 to help relax the muscles, tendons, whatever is in there in my ankles before I kicked and I think it made a big difference. My knee started acting up on an atomic gone wrong but that faded away after about 5 minutes and I continued playing.

Not a lot went down, it was a pretty mellow sessions though we both did have some good highlights. Rory taught me the power of the pickups :)

Gyro DLO bsos
Blurry and Stepping Pickup bsos
Blurry Pickup > Parkwalk > rpt
Stepping Pickup > Dimwalk > rpt
Sidewalk > Stepping Pickup > ss Butterfly > Rev. Up (pretty sure I did it bs)
Nallegam x 8 with left leg, 5 with right?
Gyro DLO > Fear (new link :))

That's about all I can remember. A bit later Rory's mother came out and she timed us for our Shred 30 (she's so nice!). I thinkw e did about 10 attempts each. My best run I got to the 20th contact with 2 drops in about 20 - 25 seconds. I think all the ducking tricks I do really kill time so I may need to do some last minute changes (like, switch the last few contacts to 5 adds or something). My worst one was droppign on the second trick and then my mind going a complete blank, haha. Boy that's not fun but whatever :D

In the final minutes of the session, Rory and I worked on Sick 1 and then a few attempts at Sick 3. For Sick 1, we have 5 attempts to hit all the tricks we would like - Rory hit Smoke first attempt but dropped the others. I was going for Maelstrom for the first two attempts then went easier and hit Whirlwind on the third. I dropped Big Apple fourth and had Montage off my foot on the last. We tried again and Rory couldn't hit the trick he wanted. I couldn't hit any of mine either so on my last attempt I did a Whirl . We each did one attempt for Sick 3 and I hit Phoenix > Blurry Whirl (couldn't set it up for Mobius) and Rory hit Spinning Clipper > Spinning Butterfly > Ducking Butterfly.

Today I need to study for my physics diploma and then am hopefully going ot the YMCA to kick with the crew. In the next few days I would like to go over some downtime elements, maybe work a tiiiiny bit on sets (I was doing a lot of pixie and stepping on Sunday so those feel decent) and try and get my zooming back. I will report on the progress of those as days go by :).

Oh man, 4 hours of 28 degree sun and the smell of sunscreen lotion is making me sick :?. I had a 2.5 hour session yesterday and almost 3 hours today outside. I started off doing some good runs but the heat and sun got to me pretty quickly :(.

- 67 consec Butterflies (smashed my record of 47 - beat that record Henry, you can do it!)
- 44 alternating Osii (new record, old one was 43 I think)
- Smear > Smoke bsos
- Pdx Drifter bsos on several occasions
- Vortex > Torque bs in different strings (almost bsos)
- Tapping Drifter bsos
- Rubberman bs
- Barrage > Dimwalk > Butterfly > Sidewalk > Barrage > Dimwalk > run (felt stylie)
- Had the dexes for Pdx Double Blender
- Nearly killed myself on a Muted Stepping ss Symposium Reverse Swirling ss Pickup attempt!
- Spinning Matador off the foot
- Gyro Barroque twice - someone verify this one please!

EDIT - Sorry for the low quality vids, I didn't even now that those settings were chosen on my camera :(

I think I will take tomorrow off to just get some rest and study for my physics diploma on Thursday. I'll be going to the gym with Nolan to pump some iron then swimming afterwards so that should keep my cardio up for the weekend :)

Before I start, I just want to point out that all the shredding really molds together so I am only listing what comes to mind about that session. Basically everything was captured on video so yippee!

Alright, here it goes from memory...

ShrEdmonton for me started Thursday evening at the arrival of Kevin Regamey's condo. When I got there, I was greeted at the door by Joe Kulacz. Despite his age, he's real mature and is such a blast to be around, I think I spent more time talking and hanging out with him than any other person at the tournament. An hour or so later Rory came by and soon we were all on our way to have a footbag session at the YMCA.

We played for 3 hours that night with some highlights:

Joe
- Mobius several times, sealed with tricks for the first
- Close to Blurry Whirl > Spinning Whirl
- Blurry Whirl and PS Whirl in a string

Rory
- huge long strings

Kevin
- came very close to Symp Flux.

Myself
- Spinning Matador
- Gyro Rev. Torque and Spinning Eggbeater again
- Mobius bsos

Afterwards we all went back to Kevin's place and went over the footage from the session prior. We were all very tired and eventually went to sleep at around 2 in the morning.

Friday, June 24th

I awoke at around 11 o'clock that morning, had some pasta breakfast with Joe and we basically hung out all afternoon. Kevin and his brother left to go have brunch with their mother so it was just Joe and I, me and Joe, him and myself. We watched a lot of footbag footage on Kevin's computer which lead to an outdoors session. Some highlights from this one:

Joe
- Bigwalk off the foot (super clean surging sets)
- Good runs
- Nearly killed himself bashing (what I thought to be) his head into the side of the building ;)

Myself
- Surging Whirl > run
- Atomic Osis bsos
- Paradon > PS Mirage > rpt
- Bigwalk almost bsos
- Rev. Swirl bsos many many times

Soon, Kevin returned and not too much longer Rory phoned announcing the completed task of picking up Andrew. That makes three out-of-town arrivals completed! Ben came along and picked us up to go meet everyone at the YMCA.

An hour or so later, we were back within the studios of the multi-purpose room kicking, but this time not only with Andrew and Jess but also with the Saskatoon crew! There was enough people to form 3 circles and for about another 2.5ish hours we all kicked. I can't say all the highlights of everyone so here are the ones that ring a bell:

Andrew
- Blurry Whirl > Blurry Drifter bsos
- Tombstone > Tombstone > run
- Blurry Torque > Food Processor?? Food Processor > Blurry Torque?? One of the two I do believe since I only got a glimpse of it :(

Joe
- Bigwalk
- Whirlwind - I'm pretty sure of this.

Myself
- Lots of zooming
- Smoke bsos a few times
- A lot of Osis-ending tricks to Torque links (I like Atomic Osis > Torque)

After the session we all headed over to Red Robin for some dinner. It was very delicious, especially the Groovy Smoothie (bananas, peaches and strawberries in a vanilla cream mixture). We all chilled and ate for an hour or two then eventually Jess, Andrew, Joe, Rory, Kevin and I went back to Kevin's place for a bit of extended drinking (though it was mostly just Kevin and Jess who did that). By this time I was starting to feel fatique's icy grip and wasn't up for much of anything except stretching and more chilling. Again, I don't think we went to bed until around 2am or so.

Saturday, June 25th

I awoke to a banana poking my cheeck and Kevin holding back a chuckle at, like, 10 in the morning. In a groggy state I got up, ate the banana then commenced with some Vector cereal with Joe. We left at around 11:30ish towards the ShrEdmonton meeting place in Ben's car with the Saskatoon folks right behind us. By noon we were there and already started to kick. I was still tired and it took what felt like forever to get properly warmed up and in my groove. An hour later, it was time for the competition to start...

Rory went first and totally blew everyone away. He did so well, dropping only about 3 times and scoring +120. He was the clear representation of Edmonton during the competition, taking third in Shred 30 and first in the Sick 3. I placed fifth in the big trick competition with Whirlwind but unfortunately my Sick 3 did not qualify due to my really bad hand-catching ability at the end - dissappointing but that's the way it is. Shred 30 I bombed so bad :). I went up there totally nervous and dropped 7 times, each drop adding on to the nervousness. It was a great learning experience nonetheless and it is just something that I need more mental preperation for - would public speaking help?

After the competition my legs felt like lead but after the anxiety passed I felt like I was shredding the best I ever have been. It was so great!

- Rubberman > run
- Gyro DLO > Atom Smasher > Legbeater bs (going for the repeat - got as far as the second Gyro DLO I think)
- Mobius > Mobius
- Two or three good attempts at Irish Cream
- Zooming Scorpion's Tail bs, Zooming Mobius bs and Spinning Osis > Pdx Torque bs
- Lots of solid runs!

Joe hit Whirlygig that day in a circle and then hit it second attempt for Sick 1! It was so awesome and he placed fourth for that trick. Way to go Joe, you are the man!

Andrew, Joe and I were the last to kick. We headed out at 6 (so about 6 hours of kicking that day) and prepared for the players party at Ben's. At 7:30 we got a ride and after a bit of confusion found our way. By the time we got there everyone was already eating and drinking - the burgers were DELICIOUS and after having a few drinks everyone was laying the FUN down. With all honesty, this party was off the hook. The party really didn't begin until people started doing keg stands. The policy was "no keg stand, no footage of you in the video ;)" according to Mr. Campbell. Unfortunately for him, Saskatoon only represented 80% during this event ;). A few hours and many drinks later, we started scoring Shred 30's. I helped Andrew do that and finally we got to announce the top three Shred 30 participants. We celebrated with more drinking, then more drinking after that. I did one last keg stand before we - Joe, Rory, Kevin and I - left at 4am. I got some water in me then went to sleep soon afterwards.

Sunday, June 26th

I awoke at around 11:30 with a bad taste in my mouth, a headache, a gurgly stomach and sore legs. I drank even more water and offered my assistance to Kevin whenever he needed it at making breakfast. By around 12:30 Ben came around and we were off again to the meeting place. Instead of playing indoors that day, we made the bold move of shredding outdoors across the street from a festival going on. It turned out to be a good choice however and many spectators stopped to appreciate the art of footbag. By 1:30 we were all kicking but unfortunately the Saskatoon crew had to leave by around 3. Before their departure, we gave out the prizes for the competition held the day before and said our farewells. So now we were reduced to Andrew, Joe, Mike Graves, Ben, Kevin and myself.

Andrew
- Food Processor so close to bsos
- Rubberman midstring like nothing
- Ripped Warrior > Ripped Warrior (may have been midstring) > run

Kevin
- Atom Bomb on Andrew's request (holy crap!)

Myself
- Rubberman > run
- Tapping Drifter bs
- 5 consec Atom Smashers (tied record)
- Skull Smasher bs, each into a good run
- Some good runs

I think we all just called it in in a few hours later (not sure when - maybe by 5pm) and had one big circle going with fancy circle-kicking tricks. Soon after, we all dispersed and stretched. I did some tricks with two bags (got up to like 7 alternating clippers) then got some fries. Kevin and Joe moved across the street and started kicking by all the venues and performers. After Rory and Andrew left, I went across the street as well. We kicked for two more hours.

Kevin (barefoot session resulting in like black dirty feet! Gross!!)
- Pandemonium like nothing
- Smudge > Omelette > rpt off the foot
- lots of close attempts at triple > triple dexes

Joe
- Blurry Whirl > Blur
- Blurry Whirl > Blurry Whirl off the foot
- Torques improved ten fold :D
- BLURRY WHIRL > JANIWALKER HOLY CRAP WE ALL SHAT OURSELVES!!

Myself
- Blender > Torque > Blender
- Torque > Butterfly x maybe 4 or 5 or something
- A few Janiwalkers, almost hit it midstring
- Lots of crowd-pleasing runs that had many flyers and Gyro/Spinning Legovers/Pickups
- Mobius bsos again

It wasn't until around 7:45 that we left. On the public transport, Joe and I began our epic Pokemon duel. He bested me, winning two games to one. In my defence, however, the team that I had originally planned to use was too strong (like 10 levels higher) so I had to use Pokemon that had the shittiest moves ever. I'm going to be trying hard to get into the city Tuesday or Wednesday before Joe leaves so we can kick one more time and have an all out, totally fair pokemon duel. Anyways, we got in at around 9 and shortly later I had to leave to be picked up at West Edmonton Mall. I said my farewells to Mr. Grant, who I hope to meet again at the Hackrifice jam in August/September then left with a smile on my face and some new determination to push my game. Thanks for everyone who ventured out and made ShrEdmonton an awesome time. For those who did not make it, you missed a lot.

Three words for the video we will be putting out:

Epic. Shred. Beer.

:D:D:D:D:D

That's a crazy link Ken. I will definitely try it sometime soonish :)

Now that ShrEdmonton is over and seeing Andrew Grant and Brett Campbell busting huge, I am now inspired to begin pushing my own game upwards. Currently, I think that by performing shuffle out of Whirls, Drifters and Osii will open up a variety of opportunities for links and strings. That along with pixie, atomic and stepping shuffle will be good for now. The journey begins...

Session 1

2 - 6pm

- Smear > Pixie ss Mirage > Smear > Pixie ss Mirage > Magellan > PLO > Magellan > PLO > Pixie ss Pickup > Paste > Pixie ss Pickup > Paste > run
- Andrew Grant's drill (Pixie ss Pickup > Magellan > Smear > Smudge > Pixie ss Mirage > repeat) > 8 more contacts of pixie shuffle
- 9 contacts of Whirl > Ripwalk
- 9 contacts of Toe Whirl > Blur
- Pdx Whirl > Sidewalk > repeat
- 12ish contacts of Osis > Ripwalk > Butterfly
- 10ish contacts of Osis > Sidewalk
- Spinning Osis > Sidewalk > repeat > Spinning Osis
- Gyro Osis > Ripwalk > repeat
- 9 contacts of Drifter > ss Butterfly
- Drifter > Sidewalk > repeat
- 6 contacts of Toe Drifter > Stepping ss Mirage
- Rubberman bs (tied my record of 8 contacts)
- Legbeater > Gyro DLO bs
- Spinning Osis > Scorpion's Tail bs
- Phoenix > Spinning Whirl > Mobius bs :D

EDIT - Forgot some other drills...

- Spinning Osis > Blur > ss Butterfly > repeat
- Drifter > Blur > ss Butterfly > repeat

Wednesday's last kick with Joe before he left Edmonton resulted some really good things on my part:

- Smoke > Blur bs
- Drifter > Blurry Whirl bsos (though weakside could have been deeper on the Whirl)
- Whirl > Ripwalk > Whirl > Ripwalk > run > Toe Whirl > Blur > Toe Whirl > Blur > run > Pdx Whirl > Sidewalk > Pdx Whirl > Sidewalk > run
- Whirl > Ripwalk > Whirl > Ripwalk > Whirl > Blur > Toe Whirl > Blur > Toe Whirl > Sidewalk > Pdx Whirl > Sidewalk > Pdx Whirl > Sidewalk > run
- Rubberman a few times - tied my record of 8 contacts again
- Almost 12 unique tripless

And that was my last real session. Thursday I graduated and received lots of money and a new computer 8O! Woah! It has Windows Movie Maker so guess what I've been dreaming about these past few days!! I'm going to start capturing things on camera and hopefully put out a decent video of myself just to show all of you who read my blog :).

So right now it's Saturday - before goign to bed yesterday morning I had slept roughly 10 hours in the past 72 so I was quite out of it. I'm feeling good though and hopefully some things will be hit during today's session :D .

That's cool that you're going to make vids! :D I can't wait to see some more footage of your shred. Funny thing - I've been trying Spinning Matador too! But I always did it with a plant before the dex. I'll have to try it Simple, like you. Spinning Sumo would be massive!

Ah, how funny some people can be. Kevin Regamey is a funny character. Good guy, very responsible and he can lay the smack down on toe shuffle real well. I'll end it at that - if he reads this he knows what he said and how he phrased it. Thanks Kevin, you're a bud and I appreciate the "constructive criticism".

I don't really feel like bloggin it this moment, I just wanted to say what I have because it was on my mind on my way back home from Rory's house. Speaking of Rory, I wanted to extend my thanks for being supportive on my part when I did not have an opportunity to do so. Thank you!

Blah, what the hell, I'll post what I did today that I did not capture on video.

Stepping Clip > Sidewalk > Ripwalk > repeat
Vortex > Blur > run bs
Almost had Rubberman bsos

I guess there was a few other things but I can't remember them at the moment. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go inspect my atomic sets out of Blurs and maybe, just maybe, work on my video. G'nite :)

If I didn't know who you were Mr. Crowley I would have sworn that you were Canadian  . And yes man, floor space is always available to those who make it out :).

Yesterday was a pretty blah session - I kicked for an hour and a half with only one real accomplishment. It was like once I started I got real tired and couldn't hit what I wanted. Today almost started the same way but I said 'no, you stink Mr. Fatique' and pushed on. Nearly 4 hours later I called it in due to a sore knee. Poopy, but the session was good :)

- 112 alternating Osis (executed my older record of 43 8O )
- 100+ contacts of Osis > ss Clipper > rpt
- Almost had the 16 unique pixie shuffle drill/string
- Dimwalk > Blur x 7
- Blur > Legbeater > Ripwalk x 3
- 10 contacts of Jorden's Rubber Extension (Sidewalk > Blur > Tap > Atom Smasher > Tap > Legbeater > repeat)
- Drifter > Vortex > Drifter > Vortex
- Tombstone bsos on two occasions
- ss Butterfly > Tombstone > Pdx Mirage bs
- Pdx Drifter > Butterfly > Pdx Drifter > Butterfly > Pdx Drifter > Butterfly > Pdx Drifter > Butterfly > Pdx Drifter > Butterfly
- Almost had Blurry Drifter bsos on two different occasions
- Vortex > Scorpion's Tail bs

And that's about it. I started out drilling stepping shuffle, which after some time turned out to be really rewarding. I was hoping to hit a few other things but I'll try again tomorrow.

Right now I'm waiting for my video to upload, then I'll post it here for you all to watch. I don't think I'll post it in the Video Thread just because I want it to be a treat for whomever reads my blog. It's the first video I made with WMM in about a year so the editing isn't the best - it's basically just the footage faded into each other. I'm going to be experimenting with it more and hopefully will be able to produce good quality editing out of a restrictive program.

~ 2 hours later ~

Alright, here it is. Enjoy!

Umm, yah. You're damn good. You might want to work on evening out your drifters, I'm sure you've noticed how much more you spin into your left one. Or right? Not important.

I'm tired now, a little drifty, your cat gave me a bit of a fright.

Nice post, and nice shred.
