My First Movie

Post by *Jethro* »

Hey everyone, I made a video out of all the old and some recent, clips of me on my com. It's mainly singles and combos but there are some runs. (there is also some barefoot). It actually took me a while to make and it but I only used Windows Movie Maker, so the editing isn't flash.
REPLY PEOPLE!!! :P

Enjoy!

42.2mb
7m 12sec long

(Big thanks to Joe Kulacz for letting me use his account)
I will make a smaller version for dialup peeps, for I know what its like to have 400mb a month on a 56k modem. It took me nearly 6 hours to upload this vid

Heres the smaller version for dialup peeps. The quality is mega gay though.
2.6mb

Hey man, nice vid. I like your style, you're so bouncy!

But the bad video quality, and the transitions are the real main thing that stood out to me. Usually you dont use a whole lot of fancy transitions in videos like these- unprofesional in my opinion.

Goliath is HUUUUGE!!! Props on that!
You hit so many different tricks, which was so refreshing and proves you're going to be one of those players who can do anything! Porque, ripped warrior, scorpion's tail, pigbeater...wow -- so much variety!!
I was particularly impressed with the scorpion's tail, but mostly because it was the first huge move in the video :)

I love the style -- you're soooo smooth! The plantless dducking clippers are STYLEY!!! Even your infinities are REALLY REALLY attractive!
I actually had to stop halfway through and comment on stuff. I will continue watching now...

Oh yeah, I'd love to see more flip pixie and flip spinning (although coming to the end I was excited to see fflip spinning ducking butterfly and more flip pixie!) The music was great -- both songs :)

Paradon swirl was sooo close!! That was sick! You have so much to work with. Props on the video Jesse!!

That was a terribly...

...awesome video. You sent it to me at 2.5 megs, so it was really bad quality, but I could definatly see all your tricks. I loved all of it, and you should know too, since i was chatting while watching and infesting your chat window with the tricks :)

So props.

Not bad for a first time, Jesse.
You should post a link to the BCS-Bob Log III vid I did, just to show how much you've improved (and grown) since then.

Some issues I had (on a technical note) with the film... you showed too many 'almosts' - too many drops. No offence, but we want to see what you can hit, not what you're close to hitting. Anyone can attempt big tricks - like me and mullet - but comming close doesn't really give an accurate guage on playing ability. You're a talented player with good style and a good book of tricks, don't bore us with drop after drop.

Second... limester816 said:

I assume he's talking about the titles you used ('The!' and 'Sloppy!'). I agree that it did affect the mood of the video. They didn't sit well and seemed to clash with the rest of what you produced. It would be better to establish the use of that style early and to run with it as a general theme throughout the video, or to not do it at all. Maybe just a more imaginative way of expressing your disapproval without the full screen title. Or maybe just cut all sloppy and the tricks/runs from your videos in future?

Quality is a hard one. I've been trying time, and time again to get an acceptable compromise between quality and file size, and it's hard. I think you did well for a first time. I think the quality was reasonably good, concidering.

I was impressed with you end credits, though not with your choice of colours. The animated boxes were cool but I think the red and orange clashed a little and didn't translate well. With videos you intend to post online, the fewer or duller the colours, the smaller the video. For example, if you were to make your whole vid B&W, you'll find you've saved alot of file space. One thing, though... with the credits, try to include everyone who contributed and give yourself more credit. It's good that you've given the song title and artist, but tell the audience who's playing again. Tell them who made the video.
Tell them it was you!
Credit where credit's due.

All up, a great job with the film, Jesse.

If you're up for a kick this weekend, let me know ASAP as to which day is best for you. I had a bad session on Monday, and I'm keen to rectify that by having an awesome one this weekend.
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.

Sweet video Jesse!!! Your barflies look really clean and controlled I liked them alot , hmm what else , that scorpions tail was sick same with the goliath 8) and just a word of improvment , it would be better to take out some of the drops , there kind of to many but HEY its your first video so it doesnt really matter , now you just know not to have as much in your next video. Keep on shredding man your gonna be a legend

p.s. Your strings look solid keep up on those

Wow. The replys are really appreciated. The majority of the footage is quite dated so I will try and bring out a recent vid using all the tips given.
Hopefully back one day.
