Calculating Add value.

Post by Chema »

Ok, so I read this page:
http://www.footbag.org/freestyle/concepts.html

and I understand that each one has an Add value of 1. So wouldn't that mean that a toe> same [dex]> toe be worth 3 Adds? because of the 3 components being worth 1 Add each.

Where have I gone wrong in my logic?

This is because the first toe doesn't count. The toe delay was counted as an add in the previous move.

So if you drop the bag into a toe stall, that's one add.

then you perform toe > same out [dex] > toe, that's two more adds.

Yeah, you probably don't get the add for a stall from a hand-drop, but I was just trying to illustrate that the delay from which the move is set does not count as an add, even though it is in the jobs notation.

Adds count in between contacts, starting when you release the bag, and ending when you stall it.

But make sure you only use adds as a guideline. Don't let them confine your game. It is freestyle. A.K.A. Fuck Adds

I'm with CIC flurry "f_ck adds," although they can be useful for bragging.
I think your right about the inbetweens counting but not the first and last.

Yeah, adds just count for competition. Do what looks and feels good.

Well, you do have to count the last, like in clipper from toe it's
toe > same clipper [xbd] [del]
You don't count the toe stall in your add count, but you do count the cross body and the delay so it's 2 adds.

so a clipper by itself (ie no toe stall) would be two adds?

yes!

Basically if you counted the stall at the start and finish of a move then you'd be counting the same adds twice when you're linking moves. ie if you atw>clipper>mirage: del, dex del>del, xbd, del>del, dex, del then you're counting all the delays twice. This would be silly. The hardest part of lots of moves is delaying the bag at the end - if you don't do this the move doesn't count. So the delay only counts at the end. It doesn't take any skill to set a bag off a delay - so no adds for this.
