32-Panel Footbag Questions

Hi guys, I am thinking of getting a 32-panel footbag (finally!), but I have a few questions. What are the advantages of a 32-panel bag compared to a sandbag? I use a big, floppy Sandmaster sandbag and am a little worried about switching to a bag that is a lot smaller and filled with beads! Will the small size really affect my moves and everything that I have right now? I am thinking about getting an Ilja bag because they look really nice and seem to be getting great reviews; any other suggestions for bags? Thanks for all the help!

It will definitely be weird at first. Dexes will be tighter, and you may have trouble stalling it for a while. This is normal. Just keep working on it and break it in GRADUALLY. Don't try to do the break in too fast. I used to only use sandbags and then when I switched to 32s it was like a whole new side of the game opened up. It definitely helps you know what you need to work on. Another positive thing is that if you ever go to Worlds or any other tournament, and you play with a 32, you will know how to play with it. It is good to try to learn how to play with both types of bags.

As far as other suggestions, I have a mini Abshire which is nice, a Lonn (but she is retired now), and a footfighter which is awesome. I have played with another lonn, an abshire, and plenty of sandbags. I recently ordered a bag from Tom Mosher and it should arrive at the end of the week and I will post a review of it in my blog. I heard that pipenbags are good as well so I will order one from him in a week or two. I'm just trying to build up my collection so that I know what type of bag I like. Johnny Suderman's bags are supposed to be nice, as well as jhibbs' bags. Mike Wilson bags were awesome until he stopped stitching. Mirken makes a pretty hein bag I hear, but I think he stopped for a while. Carol's bags are supposedly good. I would suggest reading around the "post your bag" thread and all over the bags/equipment subforum for advice.

I've got a suderbag that I love, but the ideal bag to make the switch from sand to 32 would be the FootFighter. It was the first 32 I had and due to the quik break-in time it is great for the transition from sandbag to 32 panel.

I love my Abshire. I usually don't like sandbags, but I like the bigger floppy one u have (yes I know that sounds really gross).

A 32 will be harder to stall at first, but better to set with to link moves.

If you have good stalling technique, meaning thatyou actually cushion the bag a bit when you stall, then the difference between sand and a well broken in bead bag DOES NOT EXIST. In fact, I believe that a well brokn in bead bag stalls better than a sand bag. In any case, for the first week or more, a bead bag is tough to shred with because it does require breakin., and hence, is a bit rolly. You will probably find that with a bead bag, your sets will be a bit straighter, and you may develop more control with your moves after switching to a 32. Certainly, your dexes will become mre precise as they wont need to be so large (most 32s are smaller than floppy sand bags). Good luck with the transition! Everyone does it.

I would definitely agree with this. I found out how bad my stalls were when I switched to 32s, and that helped my game out a lot. I would suggest getting proficient with both types!
