Camille's Footblog
Little update here...
Here's my "new" Laver(s) when they were actually new (with my Abshire on my inside)... they're practically still new, I've only shredded in them a few times...

Plaid!!! How cool is that?! I love 'em. They are super nerd shoes, as if Lavers weren't nerdish enough!
Erik, the issue just came out on Friday!!
I went to the launch party with Andrew, it was really cool. I tried scanning the article but photobucket.com doesn't allow files to be large enough... if anyone knows how I can post this article, let me know... Anyway, here it is, too small to read
...

So if you're wondering what the hell I'm talking about... here's the lowdown...
A reporter that came to GLASS told me that Shameless Magazine ( www.shamelessmag.com ), an independent women's magazine that's based in Toronto, would probably be interested in publishing an article about footbag and myself... I told her how I am one of the few women in Canada that play and she said it was a perfect topic for this magazine. It's kind of like an anti-Cosmopolitan magazine... for and about girls who are interested in more than shoes, shopping, make-up, and "100 ways to please your man"... I saw it as an amazing opportunity to get more women into footbag! The kinds of girls that read this magazine (and contribute to this magazine) would be the kind of girls that are most likely to get into the sport. This issue for example, the mag's 1st anniversary issue, has an article on the "Skirtboarders"; Montreal's all-female skateboarding crew. ANYWAYS... I met the reporter, Tori, after GLASS and she interviewed me and wrote the article!
And then when Chan was in town, I had a photo shoot for the article, which he, Marita, and Andrew came to... The pic they used wasn't the best one that was taken, that's for sure, but it will have to suffice... I have a disc of the other photos, maybe I'll post some of them later...
So, that's my part in trying to get some more shreditas in this country! For now anyway... I'm currently writing an article about footbag for a website about underground stuff, mainly paintball, that some friends are producing... I'll post the link once the site is up...
As far as my game is going... I haven't been hitting too many new things, just getting more consistent and linking more stuff... I've been really happy with the progression of FAT, we have a bunch of new members and we play at least once a week at the beach... I'm LOVING the beach! Toronto is soo nice in the summer! So, we've been playing a lot more (even those members that are injured and shouldn't even be THINKING hack, nevermind playing it) and having a lot of fun together. A lot of spectators seem interested and I can't wait for all the festivals to start up...
For now I guess we need to just focus on prep. for the TOFU Canada Day jam in Ottawa! I'm SOoooooOOOOoooOOOO excited about it!!!
I hope this post is good enough for now... perhaps I will post some more when I actually get good at footbag...

What SUCKS BALLS about Canada Day is that a cousin of mine is getting married in Toronto the day after, so I have to leave at like 8 am on Saturday... I'm gonna miss all the comps and everything

Camille, I look forward to partying and shredding with you again!
It sucks that you have to take off so early, you'll still get to be there for friday which will be fucking awesome!
Matt is an honorary canadian, he's not retarded like americans and he knows how to haul back a bowl, I think he meets the requirements!
See you soon Camille!

I (and I'm sure a lot of others) want to read that article about you. I tried to read the tiny tiny little words that were on there, but if I strained my eyes anymore, they would've popped. Have you found a way to get the whole article up? Are you looking for a way? Could you *gasp* transcribe the whole thing? I doubt you want to go through that much trouble, but I really want to read it.

I will try to find a way. If I can't, I'll just retype the whole thing.
If anyone wants a copy of the mag you can get it in most bookstores and magazine shops in Canada for $4.95 CAD. You can also get it online, www.shamelessmag.com . They take international orders too. I strongly suggest you let all the ladies in your lives (that would be interested) know about it.

I just became an IFPA LIFETIME Member!
It was $205 CAD!!!
I got a t-shirt too, I wonder what it looks like. I paid with PayPal so it will take a few days to process. I'm really happy I did it. Finally.
So now I better stay alive and in the sport for at least 15 years. I BETTER.
Yesterday was SICK. I had too much fun. Colin Kennedy (Newf) had a math comp in Kingston last week, and since his flight back home left from Toronto last night, he was here for the day. So a bunch of Ontarians came to Toronto for the day too- Johnny Suderman, Jon Haber, Aron Tennant, and Owen T. Those also in attendance were Toronto shredders Andrew Weglarz, Billy Hladik, Hugh Martin, Sam Neale, and yours truly, of course.
We met at Yonge and Dundas Square (across from the Eaton Center) but since it was soaked, we went to Nathan Phillips Square (City Hall). I thought this was the best place cuz there were people everywhere, great shelters everywhere, and even people playing with Sepak Takraw balls!
That's not something you see every day!
We also met with this guy Mike who Jorden hooked Johnny up with. He works for a toy company that is making a new footbag and an instructional video, and he wants some of us Ontario shredders to help promote it and be in the video!!!
Also something that doesn't happen everyday!!!
So we talked to Mike, described the sport, tried our bests to tell him it's not really a toy without destroying our chances of scoring this amazing opportunity, and played for him. He was IMPRESSED. Especially with Johnny. But who isn't?
Unfortunately, only 40 minutes into the session, Colin came crashing down on his ankle!
He didn't even make a sound, he just shook like crazy. I felt so bad for him; that really sucked.
There was a multi-cultural festival going down there, so a security guard came up and told us we weren't allowed to play there because we weren't registered performers of the event. He was really cool though- he said we were amazing, he was terribly sorry to make us move and he felt really bad. He must have apologized a million times. He even invited me inside to talk to the head security guard (who was a real jerk) to find out where we could play. So I went and he told me that there was NOWHERE we could play on the square. ASS. He said we couldn't even play with a Frisbee there, but they never kicked out those kids that were playing Takraw and Frisbee, now did they? So we went to a shelter on the grounds that was out of the way, outside the actual square, where NO ONE was, and played.
After a while we saw the asshole security guard coming at us, so Johnny was like "QUICK, FEARLESS RUN!!!" And started tearing it up! Then he dropped, took another glance at the security guard approaching us, picked it up and kept going! HAHAHA! He really was fearless. And then the moron threatened to arrest us, even though it seemed like we WERE off of the square. So we crossed the street where there was a big empty flat square of concrete, with a bit of shelter, which we just didn't notice before...
Haha.
We played for a WHILE. It was so awesome. Highlights include:
-Meeting Colin!!! He's really cool and nice and polite and... QUIET, my god! He didn't even make a peep when he hurt his ankle! Poor guy, I really felt for him. I hope he recovers quickly.
-Seeing Aron and Owen, I hadnt seen them in a while. They are very cool guys really good at footbag. Owen has improved SO MUCH since I last saw him! Good stuff!
-Getting to know Hugh a bit better. Hes Toms friend, I met him last weekend. Hes got all his basics down, eagerly wants to learn more. He gives me Jared McKay vibes, which is a wonderful thing, let me tell you.
-Chilling and playing with Billy. He is one of the original FAT members and one of our best friends. Hes also extremely nice and generous and I probably play with him and Andrew more than anyone else lately. I am lucky to have them around. We missed Paul Toews though, he couldn't come cuz he's too injured and would just end up playing. I wish hed just heal already! Elliot didn't come either because he is a lazy ass and decided to party too late even though Andrew and I left the same party "early" to rest up.
-Playing with my babe, Andrew. He was out of the game for so long, it's wicked to see him busting again and being able to shred together.
-Watching Sam play with some other footbaggers. He started freestyle not to long ago and Im pretty sure this was his first quasi-jam. He came late but I was really happy he made it out. His whirls are coming along very nicely.
-Chillin and playing with Andrew and Jon and Johnny of course! Great things happen every time we all meet up. Together we are the fantastic four and no one can compete with our combined wit and humour! NOOO ONE. We laughed far too much, to the point where my face hurt.
-Watching all the guys play. You are all amazing and you inspire me so much. Thank you.
-Hitting the Superbap Drill!!! --> Butterfly>Pdx Mirage>Rpt. Ive hit it before but it felt good to get it out in front of peeps.
-Avoiding Aron "The Sprinkler"("Whore Fountain") Tennant's spinning sweat sprays!
"Play it, don't spray it"- Andrew.
-Challenging Johnny to sole delay>op sole delay. We both came really close, although I think I came closer; mine rolled off whereas his bounced off.
-Trying to break each other's consecutive trick records. I was the only one who didnt win a round.
Booourns. I win coolest person there award, though. Suckas.
-Andrew whipping everyone with his long sticky elastic thing- and whipping the bag out of their feet.
-Watching the guys do headstands and hand stand push-ups and the planche things...and watching them nearly fall on their faces It was hilarious; I'll post pics later...
-Johnny somehow convincing Andrew and I to feel up his thigh in Wendys while he had muscle cramps!
-NOT smoking! I cant believe we got through the day without smoking a joint, but it felt wicked.
-All the jokes:
Billy about Andrews long sticky string: Thats excessively long.
Me: "That's what she said."
Johnny about the whole in his shoe: I broke through!
Me: Thats what he said.
Me about one of the bags: Its so wet!
Johnny: Thats what he said.
I LOVE that style of joke. I fear it wont last. Till then... Thats what she said.
All the other jokes rocked too, too bad I cant remember most of them.
-This isnt what Id usually consider a highlight, but I was doing pick-up>pick-ups and I somehow fucked up and smashed my thighs together! They made a loud slap and REALLY hurt, and it also threw my support foot off of its sole so that I rolled my ankle.
It wasnt that bad, I was fine, in fact the smashing of my thighs hurt more than the roll, but all the guys were a little freaked. Seeing their reaction was priceless, they were all like Woah! Are you okaaay?! and they all seemed so deeply concerned. I felt like I was this little girl they were taking care of who had just fallen on her face and worried the shit out of them. And it was actually a GOOD feeling. I felt how much they cared about me.
So we played till we couldnt play anymore and had a lot of fun!
When Jon had to leave, Johnny, Andrew and I walked him to the bus terminal. He got on the bus and we stood outside his window and tried to communicate with him with what Id call shitty sign language. It was terribly funny. We were all blowing kisses and waving and as the bus pulled out I held up a sign that said We Love You!. Then Andrew stretched his arms out to the bus and yelled Nooooooooo! and started running alongside the bus! He didnt go too far, but it was jokes. Then when Johnny got on his bus, Andrew and I did the same shit. I modified the sign to say We Love You, Too! Miss you! and held it up for Johnny to read. Then Andrew took off all his gear and straight up TOOK OFF alongside the bus as it drove away! He followed it for like half a block before the bus driver stopped the bus, opened the door and asked What are you doing?! He just said "Uh... nothing," and continued running when the driver took off again. Apparently everyone on the bus was cracking up. Andrew said that even through the tinted windows he could tell that Johnny was laughing his ass off. Good good times!
Then Andrew and I went to his house and I iced my ankle and my soles (even though they werent that bad) and I fell asleep on him as we watched some David Blaine stuff. Andrew is a sweetie, I have fallen asleep on him so many times lately and all he does is gently stroke my hair (which I LOVE) and then wake me up and drive me home. I love the guy, hes the bestest.
So today I am sad that all the out-of-towners are gone, but I get to see them all in this lovely place and on msn, so I will survive. Plus theres talk of Funtastik and other get-togethers! I love the Summer! I dont think non-Canadians truly understand how precious these few months are to us. They are just so much sweeter than theyd be if it were always like this.
So. Thats all folks. Ha, all. Look how much I wrote!
Ill be posting that article again soon so that everyone can read it. Big thanks go to Erik Chan who hosted it for me! I just fucked up and made it too BIG this time.

Tonight is the first night of the rest of my life.
I have decided to completey change myself. I was sick, disappointed, and unhappy with the way things have been going... Since the summer I played footbag like once a month... LAME.
School is ridiculously hard and there is so much work... it basically consumed my life this past semester... and yet I still fucked it up... but last night I had my last exam of the year!
Over the break I am going to catch up in the classes I screwed up, and come January, I am STAYING caught up.
AND I have decided to play every day! (with days off when needed of course.) I am extremely serious about this... I even promised and pinky swore Dan! I may finally start stitching as well... Johnny taught me to stitch in the summer but I never finished my first bag.
One day... then I can use the catchy jingle Matt Cross created for me.
So, tonight was my first session under this new legislation.
I played with Adam Greenwood (Slowsis), Dan Cyr (Skippy), Mosher, and Mike Faille, a Toronto footbagger. We started late cuz there was a HUGE snow storm in Ontario, but we played till about midnight. I HAD SO MUCH FUN, I really can't believe how incredible my night has been. We laughed so much, for many reasons, but the main one being that Tom forgot his shorts, so he played in his briefs!
It was HILARIOUS!!! They had a little 32s printed all over them too... The looks on strangers faces as they passed by were priceless... And when a janitor came over, as he slapped on a pair of latex gloves
, and asked who was the best of us, we all couldn't help but burst into laughter as we raised our pointers to Tom, in his underwear.
Please don't cry if you missed this monumental moment in footbag history, you will see the video footage soon enough!!!
So, although I had an amazing time, I played HORRIBLY... My legs have sadly but unsurprisingly forgotten a lot of the stuff I taught them in the summer... but I apparently have "the cleanest illusions ever", so that was great to hear, and my consecutive illusions are still there... I didn't count because I don't really care about numbers and I find it distracting sometimes, but I must have done around 10 consecutive illusions on each side. I used to be able to do more, but at least they are still solid. They feel mighty nice, and my pdx illusions are still there, but they really need some reworking.
Anyway, all the basics are of course still around and my dadas were nice and clean in the beginning. But a lot else was off...string length... flip pixies, whirls, osii... It's FUCKED... I had a lot of it well dialed before...
BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? It just motivated me more! I can't wait to play when I wake up tomorrow (Friday) and I can't wait to find someone to shred with on Saturday and then I can't wait till my session with Billy on Sunday!
Also, on my way home tonight, after getting off the bus, I noticed that my local pub was still thumping. Then I remembered that my good friend Ryan said he'd be there tonight. So I stopped by, and he was still there, as was his sister, who I am also good friends with but haven't seen in ages because she went away to school! We chilled for a bit and caught up, and had a LoT of great laughs. It was the perfect ending to this remarkable day, as was the 3 a.m. philosophical footbag discussion Jorden and I just had on msn
. And to top it all off, I have revived this old footblog! It sure was dusty, on the 4th page!
I had to do it though, it just felt right.
Thanks to anyone who is actually reading this!
I can't wait for the fun to continue! I feel like a new person and I have fallen in love with footbag and its amazing players all over again! <3
More to come. I have so much potential, and I am very eager to properly explore it!
Peace.
AND I have decided to play every day! (with days off when needed of course.) I am extremely serious about this... I even promised and pinky swore Dan! I may finally start stitching as well... Johnny taught me to stitch in the summer but I never finished my first bag.
So, tonight was my first session under this new legislation.
