I thought this might be a good opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mike, and I own the hosting company that donates hosting for Modified -- Modevia Web Services LLC (modevia.com). In case anyone was wondering why modified.ca was down for three hours tonight, it was a planned outage. We upgraded to a significantly faster server, which should make everyone happier. I've pasted a copy of the message that our clients received prior to the upgrade.
If anyone has any questions about this, feel free to let me know. Sorry to interrupt your forum!Greetings,
Over the past week, we've been preparing a new shared hosting server.
The new server, Ephesus, has over twice the processing power, working
memory, and disk space as our current primary server, Kallos. The plan
is to move everyone but streaming video clients to Ephesus. This action
will likely result in noticably faster load times and will provide us
with plenty of room to continue to grow.
In order to complete the transfer, we need to bring public access to
both servers offline. To accomodate this need, I've scheduled a service
window for Monday, June 20, from 8 to 11 PM Eastern Time.
What this means to you:
Most Modevia services, INCLUDING web hosting and e-mail, will be
unavailable at some point between 8 and 11 on Monday. (DNS and streaming
video *should* continue to function normally.) It is very likely that
the actual outage time will be less than 30 minutes, but this window
allows us time to make sure everything is working correctly before we
bring Ephesus online for public use.
I apologize for any inconvenience that this outage may cause, but I'm
confident that we'll all be much happier once Ephesus is up and running.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me personally
