Crappy Osis

Post by BrianP »

Man, I've been drilling osis quite a bit and it does not seem to be getting better. I hit them every once in awhile, even midstring sometimes, but with absolutly no consistency whatsoever. Any tips and or advice I can work into my schooling of osis would be greatly appreciated. P.S. sorry I suck ass at spelling.

I just tried osis and wanted to ask something too and this thread is made with the right timing! When I set with a toe stall can I take it from the middle (let the footbag through the cap between the legs) or do I have to spin myself so it's behind me and take it from there? Sorry for the confusing text but it's hard to explain.

You have to spin so that you catch it behind you, if it goes to the inside of your catching leg then it is called a Refraction and it's a different trick.

If you have a good (=good enough) clipper you can set the osis easier from that surface. No need to spin so much, though still a bit.

Crank the foot enough and bend the support foot.

Then I'll just wait 'til my clippers are ok.

I'm pretty sure you have to be half-asian to join the NOP, or something like that... is that even legal? I dunno.

ok here are some tips :D These are things I've noticed about my own game and hopefully they'll help. Obviously I'm an anti-expert on osis so they might be rubbish :P

Somebody once said I was too fast for osis. This is true - most of the time when I fuck it up, it's because I move too quickly. Osis is a very slow move. But not too slow. Just slower than pixie your mom. Don't rush it!! Try to start early and do the move as if it's all one action. So right from the moment you've set the bag you're getting into position for the osis, but you're doing it slowly.

That said - don't be too lazy. The other reason I often drop osis is because I see how easy and relaxed it looks when other people do it and I try to imitate them. I find that if I try to be very precise and focused I can hit the move pretty much every time.

How you think about it makes a real difference. Often my clipper isn't flat for it. I got around this by thinking of the move as just alternating clippers with the bag passing behind you instead of infront of you. So I'm always finishing with a proper clipper and not carrying the bag around or doing anything slurry. (I hate slurry osis!)

Watching the bag. Another reason that I drop the bag is simply that my foot is not under it. Watch the bag for as long as possible. Dylan Fry gave me a really good tip which is to lift your stalling foot up fairly high and wait until you can see the bag is going to land directly on it. At this point it's just a matter of taking the foot straight down and turning at the same time.

Setting height. I often find that I set way too low for osis. When you watch other people hit it - they tend to set at about waist height (or maybe slightly lower). This makes the move a lot easier than setting below knee height - it gives you way more time - which is important (even for such an easy move.

Finally a really good drill I've been doing lots of that has really been helping is osis>ss clipper repeat. I think this drill is great because you're always trying to set straight up, if you don't you can still save it, it's easy and it means you can do a lot of osis in the one drill before you drop it. I know somebody of Brian's skill could do that drill well with a bit of practice.

Good luck!

NIP is the "not interested posse" - it's for people not interested in BAP - but only half Japanese people are allowed to join :D

NOP is the "no osis posse" - only people who can't hit osis can join.

You have seen many of my videos. I've posted about 10 longer movies since I'm on Modified. In these films there are only 4 (four!) Osi and that's give us 0,4 Osis per vid. My record of Osi is 6 and my unique Tripless record is 7.

Can I join NOPs? :D

Um Alex - NOP is like BAP - you can't just decide to be in - you have demonstrate your worthyness first and then a random member will decide if you're osis are bad enough or not :D
