Whirl

Post by BrianP »

I just realized that I still have not attempted to learn whirl. A year and a half ago or so (when I was playing a lot) I tried to hit it on multipul occasions, and seemed to strain the inside of my knee everytime I tried to hit it. It was bad enough that I could not shred for a few days every time I tried it. I have just avoided it it until now, but I should probably start schooling it (it looks sweet). So anyway, are there any stretches you all can recommend to me to help loosen up my knee for whirl? Or any way of doing it that might not hurt? If I can't do it without worring about injuring myself I'll have to skip it, but I'd much rather be able to add it to my repitore.
Today is what you make it. So, like, don't screw up the recipe. ^^

Well, I think it really really helps if you do the motions for Whirl slowly and without a bag. This should mentally get you used to the motions of what you need to do. Secondly, I'd suggest talking to someone who knows how to do them properly - the reason why it is causing your knee injury is most likely due to improper technique.

If all else fails man, just take it out of your game. Honestly, it's not going to hinder you if it means that your body stays injury free. Besides, most of the Whirl tricks are overused anyways...

...

though they still look good   .

You should school the motion without the bag, as Byrin says.

Watch videos of vasek or felix do whirls, and you should try to do the same dexterity as them. This helped me alot, trying without the bag.

I used to have the same problem as you, whirls really hurt my knees when i started to do them. But after about 6 months, i schooled whirl motions until they felt good and didnt hurt, then i gave it a go. Now i can do like whirl easily and pdx whirl and blurry whirl and stuff.
But i think its also important not to try the trick for so long, even when youve schooled the motion. try for like 15-20 mins a day and see if it feels any better.

Good luck!
