So yeah... Whats everyone been hitting lately? I've started doing basically guiltless runs now, end up to about 10 contacts or so. Got osis down BS and working on whirl now. Flip whirl sucks, good side whirl rocks the boat. I hit stepping far osis>butterfly>stepping far osis like... second try on friday when i finally came home..wooooooo. I don't know when sessions are anymore. lol. Is it saturday still or did you guys move it to sunday?

Danny, this weekend we're rocking the FREMONT FAIR and/or the Seattle International Juggling Festival. Justin was being a sketchy bitch about going, but then found out that they wanted someone to do a footbag class there, so I guess his plans changed up somewhat. I'm definitely kicking both days, as school ends for me two days thereafter, and I'll be in New Orleans starting on the 22nd for about a week or so.

My personal festival recap:
I think I played much better this festival than at Folklife. To quickly recap the unimportant comp: I had a crappy shred 30 (all of the comp was ad hoc -- assuming you don't compete regularly, anyway :) ) that I dropped a bunch on -- I think I got around 20 contacts, maybe. Fuck you, nervousness. In sick 3, I got fairy beater>smp whirl>pdx drifter pretty easily, then attempted parkwalk>ripwalk>pdx torque and managed to almost foot that. And in Rippin' Run, my best event, Red dropped early (probably purposefully since he didn't want to compete and that jack ass Kevin forced him into it) and I went on to hit a 15-20 contact run which I sealed with a handcatch. I then went up against Noah, and since it had JUST started to rain, on my second move I slipped out from under myself. However, I did redeem myself, as when everyone went at once I was one of the last three or four (of eight, maybe?) to drop -- I had at least a 20 contact run, I think.

As for the shred circles, I'm pretty proud of myself. I felt I was really comfortable with my shuffle at that tournament. I was starting to throw atomic (mainly atom smasher and legbeater) into moves and out of moves. I had atom smasher>dlo off my foot first try each side, and let that combo lie. Overall, what I felt shined was that I kept my difficulty up while getting on average longer and more confident runs than at Folklife with not too much BOP and a lot more variety. I also got a chance to see myself play on camera for once... I'd like to see more and not on a little camera screen in the glaring sunlight, though. I can already tell there are certain things I want to tighten up and certain things I want to loosen up -- but generally I liked what I saw.

As always, it was great shredding with the people who showed up. Noah, Red, and Nick are definitely some of my favorite people to shred with -- good mix of a lack of seriousness and support in circles with them. It's too bad Nick was on the injured list, but despite that he was throwing down really short combos and attempts at moves with what he had. That kid is SMOOTH. I wish I had such precise eggbeaters, toe barrages, and double legovers. Frankenstein what!! Attempts at fairy vortex, though he wasn't really that close. If I can make it to Portland, I'm really looking forward to shredding with him when he's healed up again.

Also, EUGENE: Make this festival next year. You guys missed out.

Peace,

Lately I haven't been playing on my own as I've been trying to mend my hip so I can delve into stuff like atomic (lame hip = strong atomic), and flip fairy, and be able to drop my favorite move, drifter!!!, all over the god damn place instead of having it aggravate my hip. I saw a physical therapist a little while ago and she hooked me up with some stretches. So long as I do them and don't OD on footbag, it seems to be helping a lot. I think what may be wrong with my hip is snapping hip syndrome or some shit, but that's with the illibotial (sp) band being tight, and that's not the case. At any rate, it's similar. Hopefully I'll get this cleared up and no longer have to do so many damn whirls in my runs. I don't like that I've been hitting smp whirl bsos infinitely more than pdx drifter or pdx dlo bsos, or even fairy moves bsos. I can nearly duck my good fairy, but flipside fairy hurts me when I try and get even a waist high set. Fucking body!!! Give me some love!

On a good note, I had a session with Justin and Ricky where they were both going off the chain. Ricky was bringing back some of the old shit he used to hit like gyro diving shaft and whatnot. Justin hit ALPINE FOG (again, of course). Some new stuff I hit: flipside spinning ducking butterfly, matador os, ps whirl os. When trying matador, Justin showed me the right way to do the set, and right before I stopped messing around with it, I had one great set that was chest height. It's times like those that can really give you the confidence needed to learn something. I also had a lot of solid runs that were at least 20+ guiltless with lots of spinning/ducking and my other bread and butter thrown in all over the place.

Right now I'm bored out of my mind in New Orleans as 1) I'm not 21, and so by default I can't exactly have any fun in this place, and 2) I purposely left my footbag behind as to let the stretching do some of its work. However, I will be breaking in my new 300's while here.

Hopefully I can make NorthWest Fest (ps -- I came up with that name, mofos 8) )

edit: Danny! You were looking great at the juggling festival. Here's my advice as to what you should try next:
blur>dimwalk>repeat
butterfly>whirl>repeat
pdx mirage>drifter>butterfly>repeat

I'm back and hopefully with a vengeance? New Orleans isn't a lot of fun if you can't drink legally. ;) However, while I was there, I did do a lot of stretching for my hip, and I feel fantastic. When I got home I played around a little and railed off some decent flipside fairy sets without any pain. If I can school this, I'll be one happy mofo, as that'll mean I'll be able to crank my hip enough for atomic and nuclear... :) Can't wait for a session Saturday.

welcome home sam. you gonna make northwest fest? There's a solid chance I'll make it but it's not a for sure go yet.

btw, your flip fairy sets looked fantastic when I kicked with you so the fact that you can now do them without pain = 8)

peace

I don't want to talk about Northwest Fest because I don't want to jinx it. ;) It looks hopeful, although some things might fuck it up for me. If it works, though, it'll be good times. You better make it, I want to shred with you again. There needs to be some intermediate throw down between you, me, and Nick.

Northwest Fest

I just got back from Portland (stayed there longer with a friend). This jam was off the hook. There's not a lot more to stay that hasn't really been summarized in other posts. As for a personal recap, I had a blast. ;) It was great shredding with all of these people and catching up with others. I really enjoyed playing with Nick Landes, Kevin Crowley, Sunny Genz, Andrew McCargar, Ryan Thomas, Nate Linscott, Brad Nelson, and JORDEN (Jorden-jorden-jorden...). Nick and Ricky gave me the push on the last day, and I hit a bunch of new stuff. Combined with what I hit the rest of the jam:

Atomic bs, Fairy bs, Pixie bs, Stepping bs, Spinning bs, Ducking bs, DLO bs, Drifter bs, whirl moves bs, etc. etc. - left, right, and center

New stuff I hit:
- some more matadors on one side, and sumo on my other side (Thanks for the tips Nick!!)
- gyro diving osis
- phoenix>spinning ducking butterfly
- void and blurry drifter off my foot

I ended up shredding myself out pretty badly on the first day, but had great shred on all days. I'm feeling very confident with my game right now. I know exactly what I need to work on, and I'm going to take myself there. This jam was great. Next year will be better. My only criticism was something Red already addressed, which was the way that the of "invitation-only" competition (honestly, that sounded really unfortunate the first time I heard it being tossed around) coincided with the actual jam.

update:

I've had a three hour solo session today, and the two days before today. All of them have been awesome. Schooling so much is fun! I'm not able to play at home anymore, so I played today at a covered basketball court that's part of an elementary school. They had a power outlet so I was able to music it up. The last two days I schooled mainly pdx whirl, dlo, spinning, and ducking. Today I schooled spinning, ducking, and shuffle. I worked on stepping and pixie combos for a while, and then, feeling adventurous since it was the end of the session and atomic is not my strong point, I worked on atomic. I went through and hit atom smasher, tap, legbeater, tapdown, eggplant, and for the first time: tapping legover, omelette, tapping illusion, scrambled eggbeater, tapping pickup, and crispy flux. (I hit each trick bs of course) It didn't actually take too long, surprisingly. My flipside atomic still isn't as naturally symposium feeling as I would like it, but I think with more practice this will take care of itself.

Also, on Sunday RCS will be doing demos for ESPN(!!!!!) at the Freestyle Frisbee World Championships in Seattle. This is going to be awesome. :)

So yeah.... The last few days have been good and bad for shred. 25th me and Josh did some kicking. I did a lot of BOP again. I'm still gettin' there. I give it 2 weeks and then BAM! I'll be shredding longer and harder than ever. Josh was just getting back into it so he did a bit of Tiltless stuff. Really long runs like he always does. I got 16 butterflies back to back then 8 osii back to back right after. wooo.
The next day my leg fucking hurt. I stretched and everything but still it hurt like hell. I think my left leg is just screwed up.
Today, was gonna head to Seattle and kick with Sam and Justin, but some other stuff came up. The plan was for me and Josh to go to Edmonds Community College and sign up for our college stuff, but the buses here cannot be trusted. It took me 2 hours to get here. We chilled for a bit. Then just decided to have a session of our own. Went down to the beach and did some kicking. Josh did an amazing run, about 20 somethin' contacts. I did Dimwalk>Blur rpt. The rest of the session was really just goofing off really.

This is rare that these posts will be this long. the only reason is i'm on Josh's computer right now. :D So damn fast

Yeah! Good job! Try and hit side>rip>rpt, and 30 infinities! (it's not that hard, you've got it in the bag) I would suggest 30 osises, too. Just school the shit out of them. You should start delving into spinning and ducking, too.

Had a 2 1/2 hour session today. Not a lot of highlights, except for osis>ducking clipper>osis>diving clipper>repeat (FUN drill -- I want to hit it with spinning osis instead of osis next) smog bs (nearly bsos). Aside from that I was focusing on shredding with meatier links today instead of drilling. I'm starting to etch out some easy 5's for me, and at the moment my easiest 5's are phoenix, spinning ducking butterfly, and blurry whirl. I need to refine my damn flipside paradox whirl technique. I'm not turning enough and it's forcing me to dex more up and down as opposed to the usual whirl dex which makes whirls out of sets on that side much more difficult.

Thanks. :) There's actually a lot around on people's cameras, just none that's made it to a video. Maybe someone from Northwest Fest caught something good and will feature me (haha, here's hoping :? ). Anyway, yeah, thanks for the compliment. BOP is much fun! Also, you're a very consistent player yourself. You've got a great game. Once you start to grow more and develop into yourself your game will explode.

Rocking the damn tripless today. The only highlights I can remember were 8x gyro clipper and 7x tripless (don't really remember). I had some nice, long runs that I don't really remember any of except that I was starting a lot of them with short tripless combos and just busting confidently. I think I had a run with swirl and blur>legbeater bsos which is good for me as I am just learning swirls and just beginning to become confident with atomics. Rubberman here I come!!!

ooohhhhh dope session with Justin and Andrew

Highlights for me:

-drifter>pdx mirage>drifter>rpt>whirl>pdx mirage>whirl>rpt>diving clipper>ducking clipper>rpt>hand catch
-7x ripwalk (super controlled and easy)>run
-smoke bsos (not huge but I don't do smoke very much)
-blurry whirl bsos
-some long, meaty runs with lots of different components
-lots of flipside torques!!! these are usually a pain in the ass for me... I'm finally starting to get these down. I think spinning osis opens this move up.
-strings were littered with ~3 move tripless combos

Been schooling a lot lately as usual, nothing new there. Not a lot of highlights, but I play nearly everyday for at least two hours, so whatever.

Hempfest in Review:

Recently RCS hit up Hempfest, a local festival that promotes marijuana. We went there and shredded and blew some minds, it was good fun. Myself, Justin Dale, Ricky Moran, Ben Schmaltz, Danny Williams, Dan Reed, and Pat Bellows showed up for the first day, and the second day was just Justin, Ben, and myself. It's good having Ben back in the mix -- his game is off the hook and he's a crazy ass mofo. The first day everyone was shredding hard, and as it wore on, it eventually was just Ben, Justin and myself wearing ourselves into the ground. I don't have a lot of highlights to report. Everyone had some great runs and combos. It was a great place to play -- lots of enthusiastic hackers and wide-eyed chiefed out people to watch us play. We had some big crowds going! It was a lot of fun and gave me a lot of practice with trying for long controlled runs to please the crowds.

So I am completly shred deprived.. Last time I had a really good session was a couple weeks ago at taste of edmonds... DAMNIT! I only have the granny bag, but that bag kind of doesn't work to well all the time.
But...

Flip Toe whirl! In long shorts!

I need to get a job so I can buy a bag... Or find afew bucks and order a sandman.
