What happen with my Rod Laver?

Post by Sora »

I recently have the Rod Lavers and I can't play well.

Before I played with flip flop like this:

http://imagenes.solostocks.com/0/3/3/3/ ... 69/004.jpg

And with that I am able to do a lot of hardly triks. ( 8 double arrown the world )

Now with the Lavers I'm not able to do a big Pixe! or 1 Double arrown the world!!!

I cut the parts of the Laver like is showed in the www.footbag.org FAQ secction.

And when I try to do a big pixe the bag stick in my shoe and it goes where it wants....

I have to do something special? or only practice with the style of Lavers...

(Sorry for the english...)

Hi, I might suggest Hood's Laver Mods to help you with Laver Modification. It has pictures and explanations.

You are switching from sandals to shoes, I would think that the style of play would be a little different. It may just take time to get used to the feel of Rod Lavers. Good luck!

You only need to get used to them. There's a big difference between sandals and Lavers or other shoes. I also had some problems when I started to play in NBs, but now it feels that they are way better than other shoes (ok, Climas might be better but better than sandals or flip-flops 100-0).

The dexes are faster with sandals, but the problem is that the flip-flop and shake in the feet. :) I found it also very disturbing that the bag often stucked between my toes when stalling.

The clipper are better no doubt. Did you remember to lace the shoes differently after you cut the pieces?

You have to do one of two things:
1) change your technique. to do toe sets with lavers that have the sidewalls you have to set>pause (VERY BRIEFLY)>then dex, so that your lateral dex motion doesn't make the wings catch on the bag. you have to throw the bag out of the cup made by the walls before you can dex it.

2) cut off your sidewalls!!!! then you can set alot easier and you'll learn how to toe stall instead of having the bag land in your toe-cup.

Not to be super pedantic, but 8 double around the worlds would be 2^3 more dexes than you estimated.

I had the same problem.

I bet you catch and set more on the side of your foot than straight from the toe.

When I switched from regular shoes & sandals to lavers I couldn't believe how LIGHT the shoes were. It was like I was playing in socks. I could move my feet so much faster.

howerver, the bag would fly off when I tried to do around the worlds or anything like that. It's the TOE WALLS, you gotta make sure to Set then give it a little pause before doing the trick, or else you'll send the bag flying as it catches on the toe walls.

Lavers & the toe walls really get your form into better shape, it forces you to be smoother, instead of cheating the bag to the side of your foot you're doing perfect sets.
