Anyway so I did a demo today for www.myfuture.gov.au at a big careers expo. I have to say it is probably the best demo I've ever done and maybe the best I've ever played. Fuck I was going off. Huge runs everytime. A lot of the time not guiltless but sometimes genuine or even tripless. I think I eclipsed whatever my genuine record was (although I wasn't counting). This one run on stage (infront of 500 people or so) was enourmas. It included in it midtripless 3 consecutive pixie symp mirages, fog, phoenix, sumo, ps whirl, blurry whirl, and bs blur - it was easily 30 contacts and I finished with blender>handcatch I also hit sumo>phoenix>ps whirl first attmempt on stage (pretty easy combo for me but good to hit it under preasure) and double blender first attmempt (the crowd didn't really notice 
). Wow it was so much fun. I played for pretty much 5 or 6 hours straight. Talked to heaps of cool people, very memorable experience.
Also after the demo was a free cocktail party. Awesome food, awesome alcohol. Also talked to the ceo of the company running the expo and another person very high up on the thing - both guys are multi millionaires so it was a little intimidating but I think I represented. One of them is getting me to write an article for a magazine he publishes about myself - which will be fucking awesome fun and I'm going to work so hard on it to get it to a standard good enough to be published It's a very exclusive careers magazine that mainly gets read by big buisnessmen and people like that so I'm stoked. I also checked out all the careers stalls and learnt a lot about stuff. I'm pretty confident that I'll be a journalist now. That seems like a really good career path for me.
Wow everybody were so stoked on footbag - they fucking loved it. I think the energy of the crowd really helped me a lot

Also a saw an amazing military tattoo band thing (I don't know what you call it) - they were also really amazing.

lol yeah. Actually I've been schooling my japanese a bit lately. I have a few "learn japanese" books and also some japanese kids books so I've slowly been reading through those and learning stuff.
Not much exciting has been happening in my life lately but I thought I'd write a blog report anyway!
I think the highlight was definitly getting a postcard from the Lone Osis Monk - something I totally wasn't expecting at all and definitly very cool. Monk is not just one of my favourite people to watch but also has a brother (Thelonius) who is awesome at Jazz 
Although doesn't approve of big dirty feet (obviously)
I'm pretty much over my cold/flu. Still a tiny bit sick but well enough to do my push ups this morning. Haven't played footbag since Friday though. Actually I hit pigbeater in the video store on Monday night in pants and with non footbag shoes but that doesn't count. On Monday night, despite feeling shitty, I went to a "nerd night" ie. an xbox lan party gathering thing and caught up with a few old friends. It was funny that despite being probably the least nerdy person there I still kicked some serious butt at halo 2. I think it's because a year or two ago when I was working in a sales job often I'd get really stressed and when I came home I'd relax by playing halo 1 and just killing people (well aliens but they were people in my head ) so all that therapy seems to have taught me some skills . We drank lots of beer and coke and had some awesome sausages. Also played twisted system (fusion frenzy) heaps which is definitly the best game ever invented in the universe (apart from footbag of course).
Also I got to catch up with a very old friend who I went to school with and i haven't seen her since 2002 I think. It was kind of weird because she went out with one of my best friends who was there too and also had a big crush on my for a while before that but we managed to avoid any of that and had lots of fun
hmm. That's about it I think. Oh yeah I was thinking about my game a bit the other day and I realised that my game is very much like a mixture of the players that inspired me when I was very new (ie. pre guiltless days). Those players were Ryan M, Ken S, Yacine M and Lynton S. It's funny that I've never made any effort to make my games like theirs - it's just turned out that way. Actually my favourite "demo combo" - ie combo I hit for people when I'm doing a demo and don't want to drop it is ripwalk>blur>smear>dimwalk>pdx whirl which is totally a Ryan combo (and I know it) but anyway.
hmm. I already regret the way I voted in the modified sick 3 comp - having reviewed the videos I definitly should have taken cleanliness more into account - especially with the top players. I wonder how many people actually think that the combo with my name on it is actually me. (it's my brother). He's got some ok skills for somebody who hasn't played footbag as far as I know at all this year. Actually he played once for about 10 minutes a few months ago. I'm sure I could school him into being a really good player if ever decided he wanted to play.

4000 Posts!
Wow, So this is post number 4000 on modified! I think that's pretty cool and deserves a long and boring post about my time on modified.
I joined modified in January 2003 as it says below my name. It must have been summer and I was just about to move to Melbourne, having finished school forever about 2 months before. I think I had just got my first pair of lavers too. I was very idealistic in those days - much more so than now and also very anti authoritarian.
I can't remember a great deal about those early days except that I got into two big debates. One was about the war in Iraq and I gained a lot of respect for Allan Haggett from that debate. The other was about self serves and I think I was against self serving at the time - although I changed my mind as soon as I actually got to play with other players. Now I'm personally a bit against it but pretty indifferent really (as in I don't care if people self serve or not, I just personally try not to). I think Kenny Shults used to post in those days which was really cool. I remember being very geeky and calling him "god".
Becoming a moderator was a really cool thing - I'm not sure when exactly that happened - I think probably in very late 2003 or early 2004. It was just after I became a mod at the footbag.org forum anyway. I'm not exactly sure why I became a mod but it was definitely a stepping stone that has inspired me to become involved in the actual running and administration of footbag. I don't think I'd be so involved with the IFPA these days if it hadn't happened. I guess I've been a mod for over a year now. It's definitely not as cool as I thought it was in the beginning but I'm still glad I'm in that position. I think it's taught me a lot about trying to be objective and arguing policy lines rather than personal lines. I think when I first joined modified I would have been a much different mod to what I am now. Sometimes I feel like I'm forced to make decisions I don't want to make and don't agree with but I've always thought it's best to be professional about it. Forums where the mods fight with each other suck so I try to keep any argument behind closed doors.
Of course some of you will remember the time when that didn't happen. I've got a lot of respect for Rob Fuller and I wish he still posted on the forum. I don't even know if he plays footbag anymore. That was definitely a much bigger drama than it should have been. The usual suspects were of course involved - ie. Damon Mathews, Rob and myself. I think since then I've definitely mellowed out a lot and don't take flame wars seriously at all. Of course I still write serious comments because I feel like that's my responsibility but I pretty much laugh at every flame war that happens these days
Things have changed a lot since Brad Kaplan took over control of the forum. Actually these days I think Mike Hansen is more in control, or at least visits the forum more often but Brad's still poking around.
Who can forget the infamous mass deletion by Brad. Actually a shame that it happened but it didn't concern me that much because I'm not really sentimental most of the time (even though I guess I'm writing a sentimental post). Actually when it happened Brad posted in the mods forum that he was going to do it and I understood exactly what was going to happen and that he had misunderstood what would happen and posted to say that - but in hindsight my post didn't explain the situation to him at all. That's a secret that I've kept because of how angry people were at the time - I thought it would be worse if they new that at least one of the mods new exactly what was going to happen before it happened (like the memos about s11 ). I do regret not doing more to stop it happening now but I don't think of it as a really big deal.
These days I think things are running very smoothly and are well organised. Probably things are as strong as they've ever been at the site. We have our own logo at last and have finally attracted big name players to post on the forum. The community is very tight and strong I feel.
Some more events that I should mention.
The Tupac thread!
This is probably the funniest thread ever on modified. One of the biggest nastiest flame wars I've seen on the forum - but about Tupac being dead or not (I say not ). I remember actually deciding to lock the topic, then spending 20 minutes looking for a cool picture of a lock and by the time I got back things were totally insane. Then as soon as I locked the topic somebody created a new topic to carry on the flaming... I think it's fair to say all the people involved in the flame were pretty young at the time.
Cake.
At one point many people on the forum conspired together and changed their avatars to pictures of cake. It was very funny and funnier when more people started doing it even though they didn't know why or how it had began. Jim Jansen turned it into a highlight with his comment of "maybe people have finally noticed that I go into topics and randomly post that 'I like Cake.'" He was exactly right! Probably more right than he will ever know
Janiwalker.
I actually missed this when it originally happened but remember somebody asking what a move was - something like fairy drifter and being told "janiwalker" and just thinking that the whole world had gone crazy. Of course fairy drifter is not a janiwalker. Barroquing dyno is.
Allan Vs Jeremy
I remember an epic flame war between Allan and myself about self serving. It was a pretty funny read and we got over it pretty well I think. It's so funny when Allan takes peoples posts apart line by line. Do it with this one, bitch.
I'm sure I could mention cool moments forever so I'll give that up and mention some of the cool or influential people from the forum.
Rob Fuller was definitely a really cool guy, had an awesome sense of humor too. I'm a bit disappointed he doesn't post here anymore. We pretty much haven't talked at all since he stopped being the admin of the forum but I still think he's a cool guy.
Erik Chan has more posts than I do! But I think I'm slowly closing the gap . Actually I once asked to have my post count restarted but apparently it was too hard. Erik and I seem to be in different circles of friends on modified a lot but I still feel like I've got to know him pretty well!
Allan Haggett
I've mentioned Allan a lot in this - he was definitely an inspiration for me early on. He's really good at footbag, still posts on footbag forums and does lots of organising stuff too. He's also very vocal about his political beliefs and I agree with a lot he says. I'd love to shred with him one day!
Ken Somolinos
Ken was inspiration for me before I found this forum when I saw him play on the video "Overground". He's very witty and also writes some really intelligent comments about footbag and all kinds of things.
Mike Hansen
I remember watching Mike play footbag at school at 2 am (he was at school at that time) on a webcam - although it was very choppy. Mike's helped out at modified heaps especially recently and he's also somebody who has very insightful comments on the world.
Damon Mathews
Damon and I have often battled on a whole range of issues. I think we are pretty much opposed on a lot of stuff. But I still have a lot of respect for him. He's definitely one of the more interesting people on the forum.
Jon Schneider
Jon's one of the wisest people I think I know. Also really cool and has a lot of valuable opinions on all kinds of different things. I love his game too and I think he'd be in a list of the top 5 players I want to play with. He doesn't seem to post on the forum so much anymore which is a shame.
Max Boucoiran
Max is probably the only person on this list I've actually met in person. He's an ex Aussie but Australia always claims talent that can be connected to Australia so I'll call him an Aussie!
Max Kerkhoff
Actually another person who I've met in person. Max is a really cool guy. We agree on a lot of stuff about the world and politics and whatever and also it's so much fun playing with him! He hardly ever posts on any forums any more which is a shame because he had a lot to offer.
Brad Kaplan
Brad's another guy who I agree with on a lot of issues, but also disagree with about somethings. I'm really glad he's an admin of the forum because he's a mature guy and also pretty liberal. I think he does an excellent job and I'd love to meet him in person sometime!
Jeremy Mirken
Jeremy and I haven't seen eye to eye on a lot of things but I think over time I've really grown to respect him for a lot of things. Also he's got one of the coolest names in world
Kevin Regamey
Kevin and I have spent many long hours talking about all kinds of stuff on msn or footbag chat. He's got some great ideas and is a really cool guy too!
Byrin Wylie
I remember when Byrin first started playing footbag. I think he showed a lot of talent then and he'll really be a force in the future. He's another of my msn buddies who I talk to a lot.
David Wilder
David and I have a great deal of stuff in common and we chat on footbag chat almost every night (while he's at work). Another person I'd really like to meet in person, have a shred, listen to some Jazz and have some quality beers and maybe a cigar.
Anssi Sundberg
I remember Anssi causing a big stir with his comments about pixie symposium mirage being the ugliest move ever. I don't think so at all but Anssi is a cool guy. I love that footbag is so international and that I can talk to people in countries like Finland that I probably wouldn't have very much connection with at all if I didn't play footbag.
Emily Kulczyk
Emily's really cool. I think we get on very well and often email each other. She has a great collection of quotes and I think it was one of her quotes that really helped me when I was having some issues with particular Australian footbaggers.
Patrycja Szczeniowska
Patris is another person I've met on the forums who I really get on well with and would love to meet in person one day. Poland sounds like such a cool place and it would be awesome to go there one day.

Well that's about it for post 4000. I'm sure there's heaps of stuff I've forgotten or should have mentioned but I think I did an ok job. Post counts aren't really important at all I feel - but I felt like doing something epic for 4000 anyway because it seems like a pretty epic number. I hope I don't start a trend with lots of people doing it. I think only on really big numbers should it happen - once every few thousand posts.

Jon's one of the wisest people I think I know. Also really cool and has a lot of valuable opinions on all kinds of different things. I love his game too and I think he'd be in a list of the top 5 players I want to play with. He doesn't seem to post on the forum so much anymore which is a shame.

Max is probably the only person on this list I've actually met in person. He's an ex Aussie but Australia always claims talent that can be connected to Australia so I'll call him an Aussie!

Actually another person who I've met in person. Max is a really cool guy. We agree on a lot of stuff about the world and politics and whatever and also it's so much fun playing with him! He hardly ever posts on any forums any more which is a shame because he had a lot to offer.

Brad's another guy who I agree with on a lot of issues, but also disagree with about somethings. I'm really glad he's an admin of the forum because he's a mature guy and also pretty liberal. I think he does an excellent job and I'd love to meet him in person sometime!

Jeremy and I haven't seen eye to eye on a lot of things but I think over time I've really grown to respect him for a lot of things. Also he's got one of the coolest names in world

I remember Anssi causing a big stir with his comments about pixie symposium mirage being the ugliest move ever. I don't think so at all but Anssi is a cool guy. I love that footbag is so international and that I can talk to people in countries like Finland that I probably wouldn't have very much connection with at all if I didn't play footbag.

Emily's really cool. I think we get on very well and often email each other. She has a great collection of quotes and I think it was one of her quotes that really helped me when I was having some issues with particular Australian footbaggers.

Patris is another person I've met on the forums who I really get on well with and would love to meet in person one day. Poland sounds like such a cool place and it would be awesome to go there one day.

Well that's about it for post 4000. I'm sure there's heaps of stuff I've forgotten or should have mentioned but I think I did an ok job. Post counts aren't really important at all I feel - but I felt like doing something epic for 4000 anyway because it seems like a pretty epic number. I hope I don't start a trend with lots of people doing it. I think only on really big numbers should it happen - once every few thousand posts.

This is probably the funniest thread ever on modified. One of the biggest nastiest flame wars I've seen on the forum - but about Tupac being dead or not (I say not Wink ). I remember actually deciding to lock the topic, then spending 20 minutes looking for a cool picture of a lock and by the time I got back things were totally insane. Then as soon as I locked the topic somebody created a new topic to carry on the flaming... I think it's fair to say all the people involved in the flame were pretty young at the time.

Awesome day Fun had by all.
It started with me checking my email and finding that I'd been elected into the IFC - which is fucking awesome and it's great to finally feel like I can bring about some real progess in the footbag world (which is defintly needed). Then I checked modified and saw crazy flame wars going on everywhere. Didn't really have time to respond as much as I would have liked but was entertaining none the less.
Went down to Salamanca and shredded hard. Jorden and Robbie were there and a few random people I didn't know. Lots of fun anyway. I had a cd player and my short shorts so went hard. My shuffle game impresses me so much these days. I can probably bust out 20 contacts of shuffle every time if I want. That said I did a lot of stuff I'm not so great at - quantum sets, whirls, spinning, ducking etc. but I was playing well and hitting some cool stuff. I also did a routine I've been working on (not sure what it's for - probably semi finals at next nationals) with only 2 drops, which was cool for sure. Spoke to a crazy guy who at one point asked me "who are you?" - which I think is one of the most profound and difficult to answer questions around (I couldn't answer it but I'm working on that). Oh Jorden was impressive - hitting atw and legovers, butterfly kick>toe stall. His game is definitly improving, if only he'd play more!
Then we went to a club nearby which had some live bands going and some cheap cheap beer (boags draught too - which is quality!). I have to confess that I never listen to the kind of music that was being played. I don't know the technical name for that style but I'll call it ear drum bleeding, eyes plastered to the back of your skull with your brain leaking onto the ground kind of trash metal noise in your face fucking hardcore music. Oh and fucking loud too. The first band sucked completely which was a bit sad because I knew one of the players (Reggie) but they had intensity. They also had 3 guitarists, no bass player and no musicality at all. To me it just sounded like a competition who could make the most noise (Reggie won

The second band rocked. It was a 2 piece chick band called "Down With Johnny" or something similar (related to our PM - John Howard presumably) and they were really impressive although consistantly completely out of tune despite spending 20 minutes trying to tune the guitar. I get the picture that kind of stuff isn't important to bands like this.
The final band was by far the best. They opened with a song with the lyrics "I get pissed and do stupid shit like pissing on cats" - They were really funny and hardcore. Also very drunk.
Overall it was an intense and amazing experience. I hope the damage to my ears isn't permenant but probably it is. Hardcore and I think might become a regular part of the Hobart Footbag Club meet. ie. footbag for 3 hours then loud noise and beer for 3 hours - then home for dinner. Sounds perfect .

I ate a banana after shred. It was a bit unripe because that means it will have a lower gi index so it's healthier (I didn't buy them - as if I ever worry about my weight - I weigh 60 kgs...)
