HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VERENA!!!
too bad I can't come to your party, damn work!

Today I played with Mathias from Denmark. He is visiting his grandparents here in Vienna. He's so motivated and plays everyday. He's so good and plays just for 8 month. He nearly hit ripstein 8O
That means that I have someone to shred when the rest of the Vienna crew is in Poland because I can't come to Euros :( Again, damn work

2 new moves for me:
- bubbabeater
- blurry dlo

Hi folks!

Since 2 days I`m back from ROTOTOM sunsplash,a big reggae festval in northern italy lasting for 10 days.....
I was there with gibert my footbagbro from st.veit and some other guys.
unfortunately the weather was not too good but nevertheless we had some smooth footbagsessions. Now I`m a bit ill and I have to work today from 20:00 to 04:00:(

But now the "results" of my little footbag camp:
I did the longest droplles run in my live...
I hit 14consecutive clippers
My double legover became better:)
I did 47consecutive inside stalls
And I did 4consecutive butterflys

I am looking forward to come to vienna for a nice session.
Greetings from rainy carinthia philip!!

i'm back from poland!!
.
.
euros and the exchange program rocked!!
it's really strange to be back home after 11 days in wroclaw and not to hang out with all those awesome people!!
.
.
actually i'm too lazy to write a long report right now...
so the highlights:
-tina had an awesome final routine and is european champion now. i shredded with her aswell, and she's awesome!!
-my qualification routine was quite good, but again my final routine sucked. (i dropped in the beginning on butterfly and then on the osis that followed...after this i forgot everything i had planned...and i was super nervous, because i played last and had just watched tina)
.
.
-i had 140 points in shred 30 though!! i'm pretty proud of that!!

see you!

forgot to say a few things:

greetings from sunny vienna, philip! i'm looking forward to shredding with you again!
.
.
hmmm.
i've hit a few new things in wroclaw (not a lot though, because most of the times i was just shredding):
-pixie double legover
-pixie blender (not sure if i've hit that before...footed it a year ago though)
-atomsmasher finally (for me it's so much harder than legbeater)
-and my new favourite move: fairy blender (such an awesome feeling!!)
.
.
.
i tried really hard to find a new routine song for worlds, because i've used mine quite often now, but i failed. hanna, denise and ali told me i should really find a new one, but i'll leave on sunday to go to helsinki and i won't be in vienna on the weekend. so that would be like two days to get a routine.
that's too short for me.
i think the footbag-vienna crew told me to get a new song, cause my final routine sucked and my variety was so poor. that was just me though. my choreography is actually not bad, i just didn't wanna risk dropping even more than i already did.
.
.
what are your opinions on using the same song a few times?
i think though that most of the players that competed at euros will use the same song again...

edit: i also worked on my shred30, because i hadn't planned anything for euros. if i hit that shred30, i'm working on, i would have like 21 uniques. wuha! probably i'll drop on my first move though...

I have never used the same routine song more than once - but I've only done 6 routines (including semis) in my footbag career so I think that's different. I don't think there is anything wrong with having the same routine at more than one event. I guess the problem is that if the judges have seen it before they might not be as impressed. This is bad judging and shouldn't happen, but at the same time they're only human so could probably be influenced by stuff like that.

thanks for the reply, jeremy!!

today i had a shred session with alex, hanna and nora. my legs were really tired, so it wasn't a real good session. i managed to hit some nice combos though:
-sidewalk>butterfly>ripwalk>ripwalk>pdx torque>pdx torque
-fairy butterfly>torque>pdx blender
-pdx whirl>pdx torque bs

Damn, I was in ~10 shoe or sport stores and nobody had good if any insoles at all. Footlocker doesn't carry the spenco crosstrainers anymore. That sucks. I need insoles!!!!!
Some better news: I got free in two weeks, weel just for one week, but I'll probably go to frankfurt footbag open with ali :D

some new tricks and combos from me:

first SIX:
Nuclear whirl

drifter > pdx drifter rpt.
nuclear butterfly > pdx whirl > pdx torque
spinning clipper x 3

hey, i also wanna go to frankfurt footbag opening.
props on the new combos you posted, and also, wow, nuclear whirl is really, really nice!! wow!
.
.
i don't think i've hit anything new, but i had flip ps whirl twice on my foot, and i wasn't too far away from hitting whirr.
concerning combos, i've finally hit pixie whirl>whirling swirl, fairy ss mirage>datw, and other stuff that i can't remember.
and when warming up for shred30, i hit my 30 contacts dropless. then later i had like 30 points in shred.
that sucks.

see you.

wahhhh. i'm so tired. just got back from helsinki.
.
.
world's were really cool and in my opinion very well organized. what i liked best was that everything started on time.
what i didn't like was that everybody stayed at different places. some people stayed at hostels, while other people camped or had a hotel room.
i stayed in a room with kolo, mathieu and hania. we were the only ones at euro hostel. hania and me were sleeping on the floor which was the cheapest way.
again it was a lot of fun to talk with footbaggers from all over the world. for me that's the most exciting part about worlds.
.
.
actually i wanted to write a really long report about worlds, but i think i'm too tired to do that...
.
i'm pretty disappointed though how the competition went for me.
let's start with my qualification routine. it sucked. too many drops.
.
my shred30 was horrible.
i started with smear>fear>fairy butterfly>butterfly>whirl>butterfly>whirl>pdx whirl, and i think that it was the pdx whirl when my shred30 was actually over. i twisted my ankle (not bad though), but had to get up again, and after that i forgot everything i wanted to do. i had a million of drops, and that was so disappointing for me. i think shred30 is the thing i'm good at. i'm not the person who can hit crazy big tricks, but i can hit some nice combos.
after my shred30 i had to shred for two hours until i was feeling okay again.
.
.
my final routine wasn't good either. it wasn't really bad though. i was happy with "only" doing four drops, but i had a really bad start. i dropped on butterfly, and missed out on some moves that fitted to the music.
also, i don't know what it is, but i'm always so nervous that every move is really hard for me. like all of the sudden a ripwalk is so hard and i can hardly do it. it's not that i get tired though...two minutes aren't sooo long...
i think it's just some mental thing in my head. i've gotta get rid of that.
.
.
i've only seen some parts of tina's routine, but she only had three drops, and it was the same routine like at euros, i think she should have won.
carol's technical merit was pretty low in my opinion.
props to hania, for having only three drops in her routine!! it was awesome to watch!
.
.
hmmm.
i feel a bit like the loser of the tournament. it's not because of the results, as long as i play well, i don't care what place i get. but i didn't play well.
if people just watch my routines they must think that i didn't improve at all since last year. and i know that's not true.
.
.
i hope that if some of you read that, nobody got bored.
.
.
.
yepppp. world's rocked. also, they gave me some more real motivation to play footbag.
i'm so glad that i belong to the world of footbag. thanks.

Dear Verena,

Godo job on going to worlds. A lot of us weren't able to make the time/funds. But, really we probably could have. Sorry to hear that things went poorly for you in competition. In my oppinion its because you were pushing yourself too hard and worrying about doing well instead of having fun. Lon Smith taught me that the secret to being the best is not to worry about anything. Don't worry about being guiltless. Don't worry about dropping. Don't worry about if people think you havn't improved. Just try and have fun. I didn't always do this, but after watching Lon and hearing stories about him for a while, I started to get the picture. Anyway, make sure to stretch your smile a lot and don't be afraid to guilt and tilt. When you play like that, it is called SUPER GUILTLESS. It means you don't feel guilty about doing anything, you just have fun.

thanks a lot, sam!! really thanks a lot for the long reply!
i think you're right...
.
.
but i hope that all didn't sound too negative.
i really enjoyed worlds and all the great circles i was shredding in. that is for me what footbag is all about. (i didn't enjoy competing, but afterwards i was really glad that i did...it'd too easy not to compete, just because you're afraid bout screwing up...)

wahhh. really. i didn't wanna sound so negative.

Dont worry, you didnt sound super negative.. I just find that the attitude of so many shredders is like i have to be better and better and they push themselves and forget to have fun.. or can only have fun when doing relaly well

my ballet teacher said.. anyone can do well on their good days

but a true master can do well on their bad days

and i was like how?

she said, its all about attitude :)

peace

ps go watch jeres video OMG.. although i guessu were there

yeppp. i think that's very true what you're saying.
.
.
i reread my post and i really hope that nobody misunderstands me (i have so much fun shredding, but don't like to compete, because i guess, i put too much stress on myself...even though i know that comepting is just this little part of footbag). i just needed a place to write this, and this footblog was the best way to express my feelings. at least i thought it was, which wasn't a good idea. i don't know... :?

yes. jere's video is amazing!! i've seen it twice during worlds and love all the camera angles, the story behind the video, the scenery and juho shredding! he's got a super nice style!

Juhuu!! I got my first week of holiday since I started working last december!
Too bad the weather sucks. LAtely it was raining a lot. and it's waaayyy toooo cold. Today it won't get even 20 degrees C. What a shitty summer!

Also haven't kicked a lot lately. Highlights from last session with Schubi:
ripwalk x 13
drifter x 8

I will now go and buy some filler so I can close up my next bag.

Again a nice session yesterday with Verena. I focused mainly on drills. My achievements:

drifter > pdx drifter > drifter rpt.
drifter > pdx drifter rpt.
ducking clipper > diving clipper rpt.
pdx tap bsos
ripwalk x14
blurry drifter first try

Inspired by a vid of Jim Penske, I think it was "Pimpske", where I saw this trick and thought it looked cool:
nuclear ss osis bs
and it's not that hard. It is a crispy far dyno, right :)

After writing this I realized it was a really good session for me :D
Afterwards we went to a short film festival in the Tüwi, which was nice but damn cold, because it was outdoors. Then we drank some beer inside and talked about a lot of footbag stuff. All in all a nice evening. :D
