I enjoy the odd anime - mainly the mainstream stuff like Akira, Ghost in the shell etc. Actually I enjoy all the anime I've seen but very rarely get the chance to watch it or go out of my way to watch it. I think more than anything I just enjoy Japanese culture - even if most of the time I don't understand it. It feels like I'm getting in touch with my Japanese heritage although I guess it's hard to explain.

Ghost in the Shell 2 has to be the hardest to understand movie ever. Or maybe it's the internet subtitled version I watched (sometimes the subtitles would flash up so quickly I could only read half). I really had no idea what the plot was about at all after about halfway into the movie. I wish I could speak better Japanese - I'm sure that would make a big difference. Also I hate dubbed movies so I generally refuse to watch anything dubbed.

There's no way you can see anime in Estonia only in computer, so I haven't seen almost anything. Although me and my brother used to be big fans of anime and manga.

i really dig all the "studio ghibli" animes, like totoro, chihiro or the cat returns!

i can tell you, the new movie is really awesome.
i watched "the moving castle" in the japanese version with english subtitles, but it was hard for me to understand the complete story. i really like all these crazy ideas, the designers have. all those tiny, tiny magical creatures they found are cute!!
i´d like to own a dvd box of those movies, if it exist. i just watched them on computers.

ghost in a shell or the old m.d. geist are insane movies. i really don´t know, why i just watched ghost in a shell once !?!?

does someone know "memories"?? i bought the dvd. it has 3 short, different movies on it, by three different authors. the last one rocks!!! graphic style hardcore!!! wooohooo, could watch them onanonanon....

Spirited Away. Yes, "studio ghibli" is good. I've actually seen the director of that in real life in Japan. His name is Miyake (i think).

Miyazaki. Hayao Miyazaki. Yeah, he's the best animator ever. Several of his films have been the number one movie in Japan. "Howl's Moving Castle" was very good, at least for its look and setting, but his real masterpiece is "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind." Its the most creative sci-fi movie I've ever seen, and has fantastic directing. The action scenes are few and far between, and they are short, but oh so sweet. And the plot is very interesting and also perfectly clear (not hard to follow, even though it is intricate, even though you have to read it as you watch it.) So many otherwise good anime movies fail that final test, becoming confused with too many names and characters and places of significance that are mostly unexplained. I just watched Appleseed 2004 last night, and that movie was virtually nonsensical (as was Akira, for that matter).

Akira, Ghost in the Shell (1, 2, SAC), Miyazaki (everything), and at the moment Samurai Champloo. Samurai Champloo is probably my favorite of everything I've seen. As for manga, I really enjoyed Ranma 1/2.

and i would have to agree with jon about appleseed we watched it at a lan a lil while back and it was pointless. a buddy of mine has seen i do believe every anime know to man if i can get him away from his g/f for a few min ill let him give a good critque from his boundless knowledge. have you guys checked out www.animenfo.com its got all sorts of stuff there.

Don`t feel bad; most Japanese people I`ve talked to also weren`t able to understand the story.

I don`t watch much Anime, but Cowboy BeBop is pretty cool.

- Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell, 1 , 2 (it is confusing, no matter what source you get it from), Akira, Eatman, Rurouni Kenshin (all 100 + ep. and movies), Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist, Trigun, Ninja Cadets, Ninja scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Spriggan, anything from Studio Ghibli, and too many others.

Yuyu Hakusho is good. I used to watch Dragonball Z a bunch - I watched 250ish of them. I try to limit my watching of bleach to one or two a night so I don't run out, and have to wait a week for each new one.

Anybody seen BERSERK. That's some gruesome ass shit.

for sure, i had to to bid. after the auction ended and i won, i realized, very few of these movies have subtitles :/ i think, just 3 of these animes are english subtitled.

I'd say mainstream is evil, but still watchable. I'm kinda into so to say 'deep' stories. Well either that or just nice artwork.

A cliche', but still deserving it: Ghost In The Shell.
And other stuff like Blood: The Last Vampire, Cowboy Bebop...

Anything creative and including fresh, kinda crazy ideas is nice, i reckon.
