original, crispy, what else?

Post by ToeGuiltless »

if all the dex's in a move are done on the way down, a move is considered original.

if there is a set (1 dex) and the rest of the dex's are done on the way down, a move is considered crispy.

we commonly use the word crispy for double dex sets as well (eg. janiwalker, frantic butterfly), but i think we shouldn't.

we should name this type of move. im thinking we should call it neo. because the concept of double dex set's are becoming more and more common, its considered somewhat new skool (with the exception of shooting).

so for example:

flurry = original (because there is no actual set)
stepping dlo (aka Haze) = crispy flurry
barraging legover = neo flurry or neo haze

wow, thats kind of strange to think about, it does apply alot though, You can't use it with flurry or janiwalk, hmm, you could use it with torque though, stepping torque, furious osis (the neo one) and barroque, original... Could you do a blurrage neo? Like a stepping quasi ss mirage? that would be cool. I think it would be a great idea if you can come up with a few more instances to use it. 2 or 3 seems silly to have as a whole concept.

well there are ALOT of moves that are like this. almost any triple dex can be done neo. take pigbeater (a normal triple dex). pigbeater can also be done as a sailing legover. another triple dex, bedwetter. this can be done as a shooting legover. in theory, any triple dex can be neo, but not all have been hit yet.

i wouldnt call haze crispy flurry. i would call barraging (plant) op legover crispy flurry. there is a greater margin in the difference between haze and flurry.
i wouldnt call barraging (plant) op legover crispy haze either. because haze is already crispy. i dont think there is an original-style variation of haze.
haze and flurry are more seperate in my mind. flurry is based around the first two dexterities as a single flowing motion (barrage). and haze is based around the last two dexterities performed in a single motion (double legover).

yes chan, but what this idea offers is a way to explain triple dex's that have the same jobs. flurry might have been a bad example because flurry isnt on the way down, its a smooth combination of on the way up and down.

Boo.
Im not a fan-- seems overly comcplicated for moves that may have the same jobs but look and feel totally different.
Would you call a sailing set same toe a neo smudge?
How about a shooting toe stall neo double legover?
A Tapdown would become neo tapdown rather than paradon?

I understand it works with triple dexes better, but it is very inconsistent with double dex moves, which would make it very confusing to learn. Plus a lot of these moves dont feel the same as one another and I think they deserve seperate names.

ok. Then what about Fairy DLO, Atomic DLO, Tapping Paradon, Fusion (a Eggbeating Butterfly?) or any triple dex alpine move. None of these can really be done "neo" unless new sets like fairy miraging and atomsmashing sets are hit.

fairy atomic can be hit. i dont know about eggbeating...yet. but as far as the ducking triple dex's, i guess those cant really be done. well maybe this idea doesnt work, but i bet something similar to it will be in effect in the future of footbag. so lets keep it in mind.

no, it works fine, neo is used where a third name is needed, in Flog, there is no need if it can't be done as a double dex set, there is only one option, just like with double dexes, he dais it would be used for double dex sets.

and if you did it syposium, it could be a 6 add landing. wow, if you did it blurry ducking, you'd have a 9 add. like:

Clip>op in [dex]>duck[bod]>op in[pdx][dex]>no plant while op out [bod][dex]>same out[dex]>op clip [xbd][del]

[dex][bod][pdx][dex][bod][dex][dex][xbd][del] Its off topic, but nuts!!

I'll have to check the archives @ footbag.org, but I vaguely recall Eli Piltz proposing the term "neo" for some type of set. It was back when the whole atomic, nuclear, hippy concept was beginning to evolve. Anyway, I'll check the archives to see if I can find anything about it...maybe I'm just trippin'. Eli, if you're reading this, maybe you can check me on that?

I think it's an interesting concept if "neo" isn't already being used for something else. Otherwise, it could be confusing. But I do like the idea of naming a single element of a trick rather than coming up with 50-gajillion new names for each trick comprised of the same element. Does that make sense? Aaaaaa, you know what I mean. ;-)

Okay...to the archives...........

bummer-the archives only let you search back to Jan 2002.
Allan (aka dizzy) Wuzup wit dat?
....okay, footbag.org site suggestion: let us search ALL of the archives, is that possible? maybe I'm doing something wrong)

okay, here's the dilly (i think) a while ago, Eli had proposed "neo" to replace the name "fairy" for a toe > same out-in dex set. Nobody wanted to change the name fairy because it was already so established, but I think that Lon Smith started calling fairy set from an inside stall "neo" I don't think it ever stuck though, so I suppose the word "neo" is fair game----if your idea is accepted by the footbag community, that is. ;-)
