Need more "serious" information...

Post by Alejandro »

I think that we need more serious infromation about footbag if we want that footbag be accepted like a "real sport" for the people who dont know about it.
I developed some serious information about physiology when people play footbag, and our group was part of some physiology measurements (oxigen uptake, Bosco's Test, jump components) and we have the outcomes ready to be compare with other measurements (ideally from top players).
Wathever, We love the game, and we just enjoy it and wanna play it until death, we need think in footbag expansion and consolidate the footbag image like a sport.
I think that we need more information when a young boy (7-8 years old) come to us and wanna learn footbag, footbag is very difficult at begining and young boys-girls would be disappointed very soon. They need a more pedagogic approch, play, laugh, more children to be part of a group. Footbag is a coordinative sport and must have an early initiation (like table tenis, swimming, gymnastic, etc) to be a top player, so we need be on the alert to make a good job with childs.

I dont think that footbag must lost its essence, but we need be focused in the future for the growth of the sport.

I agree. For swimming there is like a world site where people can go and check out world records, current top world rankings and so on. They also have this thing where you enter a time and the give you a performance rating over the world. There is also a booklet. It has rules and everything about the sport. I think that would help to inform people. The booklet I have for swimming is like a little A6 booklet. It has rules competitions, recrods, and so on. A new one is out each year. We can do a lot of things to help the sport, I can easily compare differences between swimming and footbag. One to me is a sport, a dedication, commintment...the olympics. And footbag is just used to me as a hobby compared to swimming.

My first Footbag came with a A6 booket of rules for footbag, way back in 95-96.

I don't think the rules have been updated since then.
