oxymorons?!

I just have one simple question that has been in my mind for months now, Is "steel wool" an oxymoron? Im not talking about Steel Wool the product, Im talking about "steel wool" the phrase? So what is it??? What is your opinion?

I'm sorry but I haven't heard of "steel wool" beyond the scrubbing product which is useful for washing cooking stuff with burnt food stuck to it.

Going by the literal definition of the words I'd have to say that it isn't an oxymoron at all. I think we have an ingrained sense of what "wool" in general is - ie. the stuff from sheep but I don't see an actual contradiction between the words "steel" and "wool". I'm not sure - I guess I can see how you could call it an oxymoron but it seems a bit sketchy.

It isnt. The wool part is referring to the actual texture, not the feeling.
If it was like "fluffy steel" then yeah (unless the steel was mouldy

)

i think if steel is an adjective or verb it is a oxymoron but if it is a noun than it isnt

also im not completly sure if wool is an antonym of steel

but i think that coton is an antonym that would fit better to create the oxymoron

idk , i might be completely wrong

yeah...not direct opposites, therefor possible to coexist in one object, therefor not oxymoron.

Now that we've solved that one. What about the oxymoron of footbag?

Wasn't it created to help deal with knee injuries? And now the most injuries are in the knee department...
