Kidney stones and footbag

Post by travismontoya »

I don't know why I started this topic, But I thought I would give information on it considering Im sitting here bored and can't shred right now because of these damn things!

So I went to the ER and they said I had yet another kidney stone in the bladder, Now the day before I went footbagging I didnt eat or drink anything before I went, I only drank about 5 bottles of water within a 5 hour period. Then I took ibuprofen because I thought I had pain in my side... So.. Turns out im peeing blood.. So I have to take time off from footbaggin. Now for the information..... And you probably already do this

1.) Dont drink LOTS of milk at a time.
2.) Drink ALOT of water (ALWAYS stay hydrated)
3.) Dont drink lots of drinks with sugar (IE: Gatorade, Kool-Aid etc..)
4.) Stay on a healthy diet, No late midnight snacks or what not
5.) DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!

Also when it comes to footbaggin the doctor said it would be fine, But if your doubled over in pain it would be a good idea to rest.. "I" think it can cause the kidney stone to rub up against the wall of the bladder, kidney or ureter tube, And cause bleeding! So It might be a good idea to rest for awhile, Or if you really want to kick, Maybe do some light kicking :D

newayz hope this helps someone, Or maybe someone can offer advice to me :)

Jesus, how old are you? I thought kidney stones were only a concern in middle-aged adults.

well just dont overabuse drinking lots of milk, But ofcourse you need milk for healthy bones, But some kidney stones are made up of calcium and ofcourse in milk there is calcium.

I have had kidney stones myself, and yes they were from eating too much cheese, and drinking too much milk. It is not that over eating one day will do it, for it takes a long time to build up. Passing the stones are the worst, and it is when they get stuck that it hurts the worst, and stuck in the ureters, which is the tube that connects the kidneys to the bladder...for pressure builds up, and the back-pressure is what hurts the most. I had to go to the ER myself. A good remedy is to drink a lot of coconut milk......yes I know what you are thinking, but it works.....cleared me out like a whistle....and my Wife and I are Nurses, so Wifey knows best. Take care, and modify that diet. Ciao, Michael

While I agree that drinking a lot of water is healthy the rest of this advice is pure garbage. I am sorry but there is no evidence to support these claims and if you look into it you will find studies that show there is no link between milk consumption and kidney stones even in calcium-sensitive people. There is calcium in so much of the food we eat not just dairy products so trying to avoid too much calcium from not drinking too much milk is foolish.

Point 3 and 4 are just silly. What possible reason could there be between for a link between late night snacks and sugar and kidney stones.

Please research before posting stuff like this. Also why is this thread even alive again?

have you had kidney stones before? have you been to the ER for them, I research every bit of information before I post anything, I also go by what doctors tell me to, If you think you know more then a doctor then I suggest you think of a diffrent profession?

Otherwise I would shut it because breaking down sugar and calcium buildup inside you if you drink it in large amounts without having enough water in your body is hard for your kidneys...

Ive been to a nutritionist... And again if you think you know more then her then... wow your just very smart!

This thread can be alive again if it wants to..

Sorry everyone for me going off, I just hate people who bash when THEY don't even have a clue or been through it.

No I have not had kidney stones.
If a doctor told you that they are misinformed. Imagine that, a person being wrong. My dad is a doctor, so is my sister and her future husband. My mom is a dietician. Are they ever wrong? HELL YES. So just because one doctor and a nutrionist (what type of person is this even? can anyone call themselves that) told you so it must be true.
A four-year prospective study involving more than 45,000 male health professionals with no history of kidney stones found that the men who consumed a calcium-rich diet (>1300mg calcium) experienced a 44% lower risk of symptomatic kidney stones than men who consumed 516mg calcium/ day (27). Similar findings were found in a study that followed more than 91,000 women with no history of kidney stones for 12 years (28). The women who consumed more than 1100mg calcium a day from foods such as dairy foods were 35% less likely to develop stones than those who consumed 430mg calcium/day or less. Another prospective study of more than 81,000 women with no history of kidney stones associated intake of nonfat milk with decreased risk of kidney stones (30).

Stone-forming potential of milk or calcium-fortified orange juice in idiopathic hypercalciuric adults.

Coe FL, Parks JH, Webb DR.

University of Chicago, Nephrology Section, Illinois.

Milk and orange juice (OJ) fortified with calcium-citrate-malate (CCM; calcium-citrate-malate salt is a coined term to describe a trademarked calcium delivery system found only in Citrus Hill Plus Calcium) were evaluated for their potential to alter urine chemistries and crystallization during the course of an eleven week, crossover study. Six male and six female, non-stone-forming, idiopathic hypercalciuric adults consumed 600 mg per day as beverage calcium for four consecutive weeks. The results show that both milk and CCM-fortified OJ (CCM-OJ) were well tolerated by male and female hypercalciurics since few significant changes occurred in overall urinary chemistry profiles. CCM-OJ did, however, significantly (P less than or equal to 0.05) increase urinary pH relative to milk in both sexes and urinary citrate concentration in women only. Both of these urinary parameters were significantly increased by CCM-OJ in both sexes relative to the basal period. The combined pH and citrate effects are recognized to protect against calcium oxalate stone formation through formation of the soluble calcium citrate salt. These data indicate that either milk or CCM-fortified orange juice can be consumed, at least within the limits tested, as a dietary source of calcium without increasing the risk of stone formation in a calcium-sensitive subpopulation. That the urine chemistries and crystallization of such calcium-sensitive individuals does not significantly change with the consumption of either beverage implies that the urine of normal individuals would be exceedingly unlikely to change as well.

Plus to say that its is stupid to comment unless you have first hand information is ridiculous.
Hopefully you can learn something from this.

Again this is your "one source" of information, I could go and find information now saying something completely diffrent, its how it is in the medical field. Whatever helps you sleep at nite. I know the information they gave me, helped me through my kidney stones and helped me pass them within a one week period instead of months.

I provided two sources. And yes you could probably find something to say something to the contrary but what sort of source would it be from and how reliable would the study be? This is a waste of time, honestly I just didn't wanted other memberes of modified reading inaccurate information and thought I should set the record straight.

its only your view that its inaccurate, I posted information from what I went through and how it helped me. You cannot speak for everyone saying its innacurate. For some it may help. This is a complete waste of time now. If you believe that you won by trying to prove me wrong then w/e helps you sleep better at night. Nite everyone.

Edit: ehh.. I hope it makes me sleep better at night because I sure can't fall asleep.. lol but newayz I didnt see it mention there water intake if they were getting the proper amount of water to help break down the calcium and sugars. Oh well.. Im tired.

Some valuable information here from different points of view. Looks like a good read for anyone that has Kidney stones... but if you do have such a disorder, ofcourse you're better off listening to your doctor or atleast seaking professional advice from a medical website, and not taking it from a footbag forum :).

In my medical book it says "About 80% of the stones are composed of calcium. Stones are common in people whose diet is very high in protein or who do not consume enough water." It says for prevention of stones to "drink large amounts of fluids- 8 to 10 ten-ounce glasses a day."
