PLEASE HELP ME (Settled, Thanks :-) )

Post by FootbagginBum »

Edit: Thanks to help me save the Vegas Footbag club.

(Reader beware, lots of crap below)

I've worked so hard, and some of you have known me since 02 worlds and early 03 when I first got on here...I took my club from two old guys through a phase of hacky slacker stoners and have now managed to raise the group to 16+ kickers, all learning at incredible speeds, and not one of them is lazy or a stoner. I got 6 of us to make footblogs to ensure dedication and progress, and encourage the others to weekly. I give so much, and I take none as far as I can see (but maybe that is a subjective view), and now my club wants to break tradition, divide, and seclude, and leave me sad and alone after all I've done.

All I want in footbag is to grow the sport to the level of Basketball, and to push the envelope and beat Vasek, and I still know I can (whether or not you guys believe me at this point doesn't matter and is not the point of this message), but all work that I can do must start at a local level...and for the 3rd time in my four years, its all falling apart. I've gone through 3 phases of the club, and watched my footbag highschool dissintegrate after my graduation.

Please go to the blog section and read the last bunch of posts in the Ben Who blog and the Vegas session blog, in addition to my own (least neccessary but useful info..) before writing, here or there, and please help me save my club. I'm just about to get university sponsorship and I want to host worlds in 07, and it might all fall apart before it gets started.

I'm sorry to the members of the club who may not understand the nature of this post...you just can't see the whole picture of what is happening...you may understand soon. We are all one, and should demonstrate as much unity in all that we do...especially when trying to make something of something that brings us so much joy so that the whole world may enjoy it with us and unite in the healthful and peaceful cameraderic ways that we do when we use our precious little bags.

May all sentient beings be free from suffering, and may all of footbag unite and spread peace to the world.

Bum

Well ben, If HE did start the club with mike or mike gave him the club then yeah technically its his, but together as one we our a club so it is our club, If that makes sense, But loren... Ive seen you refer to some of us as students (I dont know if your referring to me) And I know your helping me through all my problems and I thank you, But are we your students or friends??? Because ive though of you as a friend since I have met you.. Its just something on my mind I need to get off... Also I thank you for teaching me too, Its a great way to learn and I love it, Its great having those one on one sessions, But not everyone is the same as me, Some people just like experimenting and learning, So maybe some people just dont like being taught and I think we should all respect that!

And I thank you for everything you have done for the zombies, and letting me be apart of it, Its been the best experience of my life, And YOU personally have helped me and gave me encouragment to do things I never though I could. I am with you and the zombies forever on everything!

I hope I didnt phrase any of this wrong, I know this was some peoples thoughts so I thought I would share them. I love footbag, I love the zombies, You all are my friends and I dont want this little problem to break the club up. Its been blown way out of proportion really quickly, Not by one of us but we have all contributed to this.. So no blameing people!! As I said in the blog we all need to calmly face to face talk about this! And ben, In your post you said that it was for this saturday and maybe every saturday... but then you say its only one saturday.... Just wondering ;)

Newayz bum your a cool dood! And I appreciate all your help and everything! But Im to stressed out to deal with anymore of this tonight so I am out.

Much love to all the zombies!

There are too many topics from you Vegas guys to know which one to comment on :P

Personally I think you guys are just taking things too seriously. I don't understand why you're making a big deal about this. In Melbourne we had a regular kicking time - 1:00 on Saturdays. Sometimes only 2 or 3 people turned up. There were even times when I was the only person there. Other times we had 2 or even 3 circles (ie. over 10 people). We stuck with it anyway (and they still do - I'm just not there to comment). But the kicking spot often moved around. We usually played in the most central spot and because of the nature of Melbourne public transport it was pretty easy for most of us to get there. But often we'd have a number of other kicks during the week which could be at all kinds of different spots and involving different people. Some days Dan and I would go busk or something. Or Brendan and I would have a kick at my place - or probably other people would have a kick somewhere and I'd be busy.

The fact is we never made a big deal about it. We were all friends and we all enjoyed playing footbag - that was the important bit. I say just chill out, have fun and don't fall into the trap of modified - which is to make everything more dramatic than it should be.

Drama is fun but not when it's personal like this.

No, I said it was PLANNED for one Saturday, we haven't planned next Saturday, but there was the possibility for other Saturdays which is why I said MAYBE every Saturday.

EDIT: Jeremy, that's all we want for the club, we did not want any of this to happen, we just wanted to shred somewhere else for one Saturday for sure and maybe other Saturdays if we like it. That's all.

Jeremy is right.

here is my comment from Ben's blog:

Loren and Ben, you two need to stop argueing about a whole lot of stuff which is'nt important right now. You are past the stage of discussion and have sunk so low as personal attacks. Neither of you are listening to one another anymore and you need to stop the situation NOW as you are not achiving anything.

Ok there are the facts. Now for my opinion. The issue at hand is the division of the club, which will happen if you don't agree on a shred spot.

I think the idea to shred at someones house on the other side of town is incensitive to Travis and Loren. I don't know what the public transport system is like in Las Vagas but perhaps you should all take a serious look at it.
I read Ben's reasons for shifting the shred spot, and all of them sound pretty stupid to be honest, apart from the gas one. Driving for an hour to shred for a few hours is difficult, but I believe that option is better than leaving people out.
There are other possibilities I'm sure, Las Vagas is a massive city, there must be other locations you can shred. Is there somewhere that is'nt 30 mins away from where Ben etc. lives and Trav n Loren can catch a $2 bus too and from?

If you guys don't stop argueing and just drop all these extra issues you have with eachother for a minute, then the club will be devided or even worse friendships lost. That would be a very unfortunate event.

Please listen to me, I really don't want to see the club that could be holding worlds 2007 broken because of petty arguements.

ok heres how vegas is structured, there is steves bens and my house on one side of town. Then you have his side of town. so 30 minute drive, with nothing inbetween except the strip which is very close to his side and freeway. I have thought of one spot and it is a very good idea, i believe its equidistance between unlv and West las vegas. YMCA on meadows lane. Why not?

I would like to apologize for even considering the idea if it was going to make this much ruccus. I apologize to Loren if you are hurt by anything I said, I just had to get somethings off my chest and your posts kind of provocted me to do so. I know the forums weren't the best spot to do it, but I think this was the only chance to actually say what I wanted. I apologize for how this looks to the footbag community, there were some personal issues mixed in with club issues. Every group of people has its problems and this is the first time something like this has happened and hopefully the last.

If us playing another spot is not going to work, then we'll remain at UNLV or I might not be able to come for a few more Saturdays because of the distance. I'll just play alone and that's fine with me. Gives me a chance to school.

Again sorry to everyone who had to bear this.

Well.. Is that possible? No sign up or sign in?

Granted, it's a longer drive for me (3 Mi away from uni, a longer trip to the YMCA), but it would be a good way to group together. And depending on how busy it is, we may be able to get more people intrested....

The cons would include more people not being able to make it (gas, parents won't take them out that far, etc.), and no super convienences around. An orthodontist, a mall, and a sav-on is all that's really around. No cheap food, no cheap drinks, and I don't think there are vending machines on site.

I'm open for change, but remember: change is difficult.

Okay...

Personally, I drive at least an hour to an hour and a half several times a week to simply hang OUT with my local shred buds, not even to shred sometimes! We have one shred set for every Saturday, and sometimes we have impromtu shreds on weeknights. Another player for our club has to drive almost an hour to get into the city we are in to play. We switch the locations around every once and a while so it's not a big deal.

Loren, maybe I should PM this to you, but oh well. I would suggest trying to explain to these guys that they ARE your friends and that you're not attempting to be condescending. To the other guys, I've seen Bum posting on modified for years and he's never been as excited about footbag as he is now, and he's just proud that he's been able to share that excitement with his friends, and make new ones. Plus, it DOES take a lot of work to build a scene, and y'all should respect that as well. I'm just saying that from recalling Loren's old posts in my head, he never attempted to seem condescending to you guys or anything, he was just excited that you guys were getting on the footbag bandwagon. So back to Loren, I think that the biggest problem these guys have is that because they're younger than you, they think you're being condescending, even though you're not - heck, I get accused of that (not in footbag, but by others) all the time. All it takes is to assure them that you're not trying to be condescending.

Guys, it'll all work out and if you host Worlds 2007 I will have an excuse to go to Las Vegas AND shred with all of you. All it takes is better communication. Y'all need to sit down in PERSON and brainstorm how to make this situation better. That's the only way you'll completely solve your problems. Arguing about it on the forum is pretty stupid, although you might get the drama queen award. (Hey if you kill one of your crew members, you could possibly beat Damon!)

I hope everything works out for you guys!

Vegas needs to have a chat on AIM. Every person in our club that can get on, needs to get on. Any suggestion on when or if this is even a good idea? I think we need to hash this out real time and tell everyone how we feel and work this out, honestly it's not that big of a deal. If we would all deal with it in a rational and civilized manner we can get through this with no problems.

We need to do this ASAP before people start blowing head gaskets or something. :D

I guess Vegas is a good place to host Worlds :

A nice city ( I was never there - one more reason for it )
A good club ( Think twice before dividing leavong your club - there are not many clubs with ACTIVE 16 + members in the WORLD )

Personal issues are there to be solved like men - talk them over as soon as possible and not start other "attacks" to the other person .

ZOMBIES!!!!!

Las Vegas is one of the top three cities in the World I would like to visit - and one reason for it is the club.

Good luck!

Just from what I've read in this thread without visiting the blogs I'll tell you, I wouldn't want to be in your club. You guys are arguing over a matter of a couple of miles??? Back in my day if we wanted to shred we had to walk 5 miles...backwards...barefoot...in the snow...up hill...bothways

Seriously, though. Several years ago when Boulder was the scene I always had to drive up from Denver 30-40 mins. Then we found someplace in between once Ellis and Dave left. Then we just went back and forth. Then I moved away. Any which way about it I don't see what all the fuss is about. You guys can't figure out how to kick in multiple places to get maximum exposure and you want to host worlds? Hosting Worlds means having a club or team that is cohesive and able to work together. There is no "I" or "My" or "Mine". It is the Vegas Club. It should be an entity in and of itself. Not Loren's, not Ben's, not anyone else's.

You've got two years to go. How about having a smaller tournament first? It's kind of mandatory if you want to be considered for worlds.

Man, I had to drive almost an hour at 90 miles an hour to kick with Cosmo in Kalamazoo. Or I'd have to drive almost an hour at 65 miles an hour to kick with Smoothie. Shite, even Jayman was over 20 minutes away traveling at 58 miles an hour.

3 MILES !!! You can walk that far in about a half hour.

yeah totally! I used to travel 20 - 40 minutes by tram twice to three times a week to get to kicks. One guy would show up every couple of weeks who lived 3 hours away (until Dan started abusing him - but that's another story :? ).
