Ducking/Weaving

Ducking/Weaving
SET >> DUCK [BOD] >

I am having a real problem getting good at ducking and diving moves. More specifically, a duck from a clipper set. I have no problem doing the duck, but spotting tha bag afterwards always comes too late for me. I dont have time to do a dexterity afterwards. Does anyone have any advise on how to improve here? It would be much appreciated.

the tip ive been told for the same problem is not to look down, try to spot the bag at head level, this helped me a lot, and practice and more and more practice of course!

Even if you have no probelem with the duck part, you have 2 ways of doing this move. You either set it diagonally and duck and wait for the bag to land, or you set it straight up, and you move so you know where abouts the bag is going to land. I would go with number 2. also if you want to do a dex, like a butterfly or leg over after a duck, then keep your posture straight and start the dexes as early as possible. I found these tips really helpful and it helped me with ducks.

The main thing i was told was to set straight, and dex early. These 2 helped the most.

For me, I don't do much spotting at all. I just have gotten good at telling where the bag will land based on how I set it. I think that if you have a nice, controlled set you should be able to do the same thing pretty quickly. Beyond that... practice :/

I think this is the right answer, if you set the bag stright and move toward it to duck it, and you practice this enough times, you should be able to predict where the bag will fall, and this becomes remarkably easy to do. Its all about the set, after that its just alot of prediction and a really good alternating clipper ;). - Diving is the same jazz.

I`d like to think I`m pretty good at ducks and dives, so here`s some things that I do to execute them well.

1. Always set straight up. Almost every footbag move consists of you moving around the bag, not the bag moving around you.

2. Set high enough. Right about shoulder height is good. If you set too high, it can delegitimize the duck.

3. Focus on just moving your neck under the bag. Don`t think about your head, and don`t move your entire body. Really focus on just getting your neck to pass under the bag.

4. Once your duck is complete, straighten your body. Yes, you have time to do this. It will give you better control to complete the next component after the duck, be it a clipper, butterfly, pdx whirl, what have you. This is one of the most important things to remember; stand up straight as you complete the duck. It will give you more control, and helps you finish the duck faster.

Good luck.

Agreed. Also, try starting your move sooner after the duck.

It's also about periferal vision. I don't really stop the bag, but as soon as I see it out of the corner of my eye I start to follow it with my eyes -- so I don't go searching for the bag once it's gone over my neck, but I watch it once it comes into view.
Try not to duck too low and bend your back, I find ducking easier and more attractive if you set the bag at the right height and just duck a little to emphasize the move.
If you're having trouble with a dex after the duck maybe you should practice your dexless ducking moves more until you feel completely confident with the ducking. If you can hit ducking clipper really easily, ducking butterfly shouldn't be much harder. I find that moves like tomahawk require more familiarity with the actual dex than the duck, so you're going to have trouble with tomahawk if you can't whirl too well, even if you can duck, but maybe that's too obvious of an example.
Practice practice practice. If you can duck well, try diving, weaving and zulu -- these will help a lot.

I appreciate the replies for the Ducks and Dives. I can't really determine which method helped me the most. I tried each of them, and eventually, I just got to the point where I could do it... maybe it was just having different ways to do it. Anyway, Thanks.

The advice that everyone gave is perfect. A cool thign to practice after you've start landing ducking and divings, is to put your hands on your head, and point your elbows out. when you set the bag, make it go in one of the spaces created by your arms, and through the other one. This makes you set the ducks in the perfect spot so the set doesn't hit your arms. Its alot of fun to do and feels realyl cool when you get it perfectly.

Or goes to a component on the same side as it was set from.

Alright if that is weaving what is: right clipper, diving motion, left clipper.
