Not quite Zen, but I hit some stuff today looking upwards - so I couldn't see my feet at all but I set the bag high and managed to do some stuff out of it (because I could see where it was going) - maybe this would help train to be able to do Zen.

Try to engage in casual conversation while you are playing. Talking to people a little while you are shredding can take your mind off the bag and your legs a little. Try responding to people in your circle. If they say something like "Nice Symposium, man!", comment right back to them "thanks, but I thought the footwork was a little sloppy..."
"The time has come to convert the unbelievers..."

Zen is in the setting sun, behind the western mountains.

zen in footbag is playing with your eyes closed/blind folded whatever. Other than that I guess it's a philosophy - hard to define (at least for me) but there are lots of good books about it. "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert Pirsig is one of my favourite books.

Zen and the art of Tai Chi. I've done some moves zen...whirl, infinity and something else. Willie, pat and i were playing around with it for awhile. We also did the look straight ahead thing, that vasek does in training day. Except he does a whirling swirl haha. that stuff is hard

Sorry i don't have any advice sam :(
