Bullsh!t
The American Military is not the ones makin decisions. The ones making the decisions have probably never seen war at all. If it were up to the Generals an Sgt's American Military would be VERY MUCH succesful. But doing so, people would bitch just like they do about everything else.
OK, it's time to set you kids straight about the American military. The US armed forces are the best trained in the world. We have the best firepower to match any nation's (and I'm not talking about nuclear warfare) on Earth. That and the fact that we are a volunteer army, not a conscript army like a lot of others are. Which means normally we don't get Gomer Pyle's who buddy fuck the entire company over and drag morale down. As far as Vietnam goes, the military campaigns were winning, the plain fact that the politicians in Washington were fighting the war with one hand tied around their balls was the fact that we didn't win. We weren't given a specific objective other than to contain communism below the 17th (or whatever parallel it was...I wanna say 39th, but isn't that the Korean border?) We have the best combat training programs in the world, we are familiarized with tons of weaponry and trained to use it. The fact that we haven't won a "good" war is the fact that our last "good" war was the war with the Nazis in the '40s. We had a specific objective then, whereas in Korea, Vietnam, and now in Iraq, we don't have much of a specific objective other than to "contain the hostiles," because the rest of the world won't let people like me do our jobs. They get in a hissy fit if innocents are killed. The plain fact is that innocents get killed in war. It is inevitable. I'm not defending the people who sodomize the prisoners and shit like that...that's just plain wrong. But, you also have to remember the fact that with the terrorists in Iraq, there is no Geneva Convention from them. They brutalize their prisoners far worse than ours. Take a look at the fellow who got decapitated on Al Jazeera. If you think we haven't done good in any war since the '40s, you're wrong. What about Panama? Or Grenada? Or the first Gulf War? Had Bush Sr. actually did his job right and not just contain our objectives to liberating Kuwait and instead liberated Kuwait and dispose of Saddam Hussein then, we wouldn't be in as big of a pickle as we are now. If you want to ask about our military, ask myself or Aaron Orton or that one fellow who just got out of boot camp because we'd probably know best.

Saying that "the UN" fought the Korean War is like saying "the coalition of the willing" is fighting the war in Iraq. America fought the Korean war, and it lost. You can call it the UN, but you know it was almost entirely American soldiers. Same with the Iraq war. Its America vs. Iraq and the terrorists. "Coalition of the Willing"... is such a bad euphemism. Palau? Poland? Afrika Bambaata and the Zulu Nation?
Republicans like to bash the UN for no reason. But claiming that the Korean war was fought by "the UN"... thats as dumb as claiming that the current Iraq war is being fought by "the coalition of the willing."
Sorry I'm a little slow but fuck that's a load of shit. Lol - like most biased misinformed post everBlackend wrote:OK, it's time to set you kids straight about the American military. I mean did I actually read an American brining up Panama and saying it was a positive thing? lol - I've always seen it brought up as a negative for the US - not a positive. That's pretty damn funny. I guess I could comment on everything else you said but I just don't see the point.
Look I respect people with different opinions to mine and if you are happy being in the army and think you're doing the right thing - good for you. I wouldn't join but you're free to do what you want. My pacifist views could be "wrong" and killing people to protect your country might be the best thing you can do. But please educate yourself before commenting on things you don't know much about. Panama ended up being the first significant time that the mass population of a country stood up to the US and thrawted the US aims. It's probably something that inspires people in US occupied countries to this day. I mean fuck - the nationalist movement in Panama was against the US. Lol - I can only believe I read you wrong or that you are lied to in school.
fuck that's funny - maybe a reflection on how "great" the US education system is - probably as good as it's world class army...
lol I'm still laughing - you made my night anyway
edit: Unless you're talking about the US help for Panama before it became a republic? But that happened in 1903 - which unless my head is really scrambled - is a long time before the 1940s...

I didn't say the U.N. fought the Korean war. I was implying that it was a U.N. approved operation.
Since they have their hands in it, artificially limiting the scope of the operation, then it's doomed to fail.

I'm not a Republican. Don't include me in with any of them. I dislike or hate most Republican politicians.
They're plenty of legitimate reasons why I bash the U.N.
Whether it's stepping aside to allow genocide in Rwanda, Or having early warning about the Tsunami and doing nothing, the U.N. is mostly only useful as tool against the U.S.
It gives power to racist, jealous , human rights abusers who should have none.
Oh yeah, promoting a one-world government(itself), or some other NWO, is also why some people like it.
Korea wasn't a total loss.
Look at the South's booming economy and success, compared to the starvation, purges, and human misery of the North.
The country was split in two, and they became showcases of what the different political-systems can achieve.

I saw/heard/read about the American military recruiting methods, and in opinion it is faaaar from being an army of volunteers. I'm not saying most of them are not, but the amount of misinformation they give is quite outrageous.Blackend wrote:That and the fact that we are a volunteer army

One of my classmates was from Russia. He wanted to go home to visit for last summer, but said he was scared of being pressed into the army.
He said the army would blockade all the subway stops during rush hour, then grab every military-age looking guy to "enlist". Unless you had special papers, you might find yourself shipped off to Chechnya.
A guy I used to work with was from Guatemala, he said that the army would press young teens into the army, and then hang them by their wrists (kind of like a crucifix).
I don't think the hazing had any training purpose, they just liked to kick ass.

Obviously you don't know what a conscript is. In many countries, it's mandatory for military service. In the US, yes, we do have recruiters who come out and try to meld the Army's wants around your goals in life in order to get you to join. But they don't force you to join. That's the entire meaning of a volunteer army. You voluntarily enlist.sergio wrote:I saw/heard/read about the American military recruiting methods, and in opinion it is faaaar from being an army of volunteers.
