Lon. Tied with Vasek for the best in the world?
Lon. Tied with Vasek for the best in the world?
Lon did diving inspinning torque in Portland. After seeing Lon this weekend I decided Lon is the best in the world at spinning moves and torques.
He may be the best player in the world. The first day I was there he did a string well over 150 contacts. He's like the Lance Armstrong of footbag.
Don't get me wrong there are plenty of combos Vasek does that Lon cannot do. But Lon has reached some new plane of mastery. I guess you have to see it to understand.

Hey Jim have you seen Jason Crook? Omg.
But seriously, I think a lot of the younger people in footbag are dazzled by Vasek's technical capabilities, and totally forget about style sometimes. Personally I find Vasek's style too clean - almost boring, at times. Kind of like listening to Wynton Marsalis vs. Miles Davis (Vasek vs. Lon). It's just that I don't like perfection. I like it to seem real.
But yeah man, that sounds awesome about Lon!
And of course everyone should know that I still like Vasek.

I must admit that Lon's style is sooo smooth. And he can definitely shred as long as Vasek can....
But Vasek is so far out there that no one, at this moment, is close to him. I'd say there are 3 or 4 that are really close together that are trailing him, but none of them can touch him.
But what do I know, I'm not even in the top 30....
...yet....

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Doesn't Vasek say on Sick '03 that he can play for 20 minutes without dropping it?
I'm sure Lon is good but I think Vasek is still a lot better. Think back to Bila Lavice where he hits a 60 contact run with a 7 and all kinds of crazy combos - and that was 2 years ago. He's only been playing for 5 years too so I think he's probably still getting better...

I read my post and it came across like I was saying. "Lon is better than Vasek" I cant back that up. I dont even believe that.
Vasek is definately the best. He's the best at competing, the best at shredding easily. But in my opinion Lon is second in the world. Lons the best at long runs, shoe modifications, switching up his style.
I guess it depends on what you factor in.
What do you all think?

It's certainly very close. I would have said the top players (after Vasek
) would be out of these players: Jorden, Felix, Honza, Lon, Yourself, Peter Irish and Scott Bevier.
Considering many of those players were at this event and you go with Lon - I'd say that narrows it down to Lon, Felix and Honza. Reports are pretty mixed about who is better out of Felix and Honza - or Lon and either of those two so it's really hard to say. Lon does seem to have more variety and longer string length than those players - but maybe doesn't go as hard? I think at this stage I'd rate them as: 1. Lon, 2 Honza, 3 Felix but having never played with any of them I really don't know.

I thought that Lon didn't go hard much and wasn't really a big trick kinda person.. but like he was really awesome a loong strings and spins and that.
But i was this oold vid of him in todexon and damn!!!! crazy shredder!
3-4 superflies in a row
spinning rv whirl > far symp rv whirl rpt
shred 30 included many many 5's
I think Lon is Awesome!
BUt i think Vasek is still way better!

This combo is really really easy if you have ever done reverse whirls.alex wrote:spinning rv whirl > far symp rv whirl rpt
Don't be so sure. Many people say Vasek plays 6 hours a day, I don't know if this is true but I have good reason to believe when he solo shred he does half hour routines (that means he goes for half an hour without taking a break whatsoever, sure he drops, but he never stops, I don't know if Lon could do this, he is alot older and heavier than Vasek :S)professor wrote:I must admit that Lon's style is sooo smooth. The bottom line is, Lon will never be proven better than Vasek because he does'nt believe in competition and refuses to go to worlds, how can you be the best in the world if you don't even want to be, and thus don't go to worlds.
As far as the 'who is 2nd' debate goes. If I was to pick the style I like best, I would choose you Jim, if it was run length, Lon, but technically, 2nd best is Felix, he showed this when he beat Honza at GFO. Honza is good, but I believe Felix is streaching the boundrys more.
Competition doesn't determine who is "best".
I agree that Lon is second best in the world, maybe tied with Jorden. Jorden is insane and CREATES tricks every other day -- he hits HUGE tricks, but Lon has the length and style. They are both really original. I would love to see a Lon and Jorden "circle" video!! Don't forget Lon can bust huge too when he wants.

I feel like Honza and Felix are pretty much equals. Could be wrong, but that's how I feel currently. I don't know where Jorden ties into this, though. I've heard firsthand accounts of Jorden shredding with Felix, saying that Jorden ripped him apart.
We'll see in a week, though.

I can shred hard. In fact I was the first person to have a 4.0 add ratio in a shred competition.
I hit a new trick just a few days ago.
I don't stop during my solo session except to change music, drink water, and change socks.
I don't want to be the best in world.
I do want to be the best I possibly can be.
Vasek will get much better, so will I, so will a lot of people.
This sport has just begun. Everyone sucks so far.
Just imagine how great Vasek can 10 years from now. Then picture 100 kinds around the world equally good. Be patient, it's happening right now.
