When I started playing footbag, the average age of players was probably between 18 and 23. Now, at least as modified represents, the ages of players is increasingly decreasing

(getting lower).

You may comment on this topic, discussing it as you will, deciding or not deciding to post your age, but please respond to the poll with your age.

How is this affecting the development of our sport?

I think a lot of that is to with the fact that older people suck on computers

Well at least younger people feel more comfortable and also the forums are generally made up of pretty mundane or immature discussion so older more mature people tend to post a lot less and only post about serious things. Maybe they have things they think are more important than posting on modified as well.

I'm 20 but only for 8 more days (my birthday is the 29th of this month)

Younger players have less money to goto tournaments and more time to practise.

I'm 16, I think it mostly has to do with the fact that it's finally getting noticed a bit more, and most younger people that get exposed to it will most likely be intrigued by it.

How old was Kenny Shults when he started playing? How about Lon Smith or Allan Hagget?

I think it's not that players are getting younger (so to speak), it's more that the sport is expanding, so the players who started young are now older. The younger players also have that more mature and experienced resource that the older players never had. So that's why the kids getting into the sport today are advancing at such extrordinary speed.
And now that footbag has such a massive, yet centralised community (what, only two or three online forums - and many people visit each forum anyway), the evolution of this sport is blindingly quick.

I would think that the average age of kids getting into footbag would be about 14. While the majority of players would be in their late teens to mid twentys.

Turned 14 in June. I think that 12-13 is a good age to start (I started at 12) but it has been a bit frustrating for me, because I have to go with my parents, I go to VERY few tournaments, and end up playing solo almost all of the time.

While logically that would make sense, but what's odd is that of the 20 or so people who joined our club in the last few months only 1 has been below the age of 16. Maybe it's different other places, I don't know.

Well, also... similar-aged kids TEND to hang out with other kids of similar-age. So your club will be similar in age, and another place will be similar age.

However I don't really believe what I just typed to be true at all. I just like arguing.

im 15 but I started when I was 13 and just about to turn 14 , I think it really depends on the person to, I dont play any other sports so I didnt really have to give up anything to play and such.

Yeah, and all the new players that are young (14-eighteen) sure do get quick FAST!

To mention a few names:

Joe Kulacz, Henry Greise, Nic Bathgate...there are several others too, but within a matter of 3 months, all three of them surpassed me in skill level in the sick 1's and 3's. Sure, I don't practice a ton anymore, but STILL, these guys are good, and talented, and learn quickly.

I'm 22...
When I first started playing, though, and following the .org mailing list, I don't remember hearing of any players younger than, like 16 or 17. Now there are players that are 12 years old (how old is Henry Griese now???, and busting 6 add tricks...) and 14-year-old players aren't uncommon now.

Another thing is that people do freestyle as soon as they know about it. Its not like other sports, "Hey, I might pick up running" or "I might try tennis, it looks fun" Freestyle is "Holy %^%&! I want to do that!". Possibly that younger kids are getting more informed about it.
