Worlds Shred 30 rules: x-dexless

Post by Senor Grommet »

I read this on the 2005 World's site. these are the Shred 30 ruls for this year's competition:

" Only 3 add moves and higher will be counted as unique tricks. Adds will be counted normally from every trick even if it’s 1 or 2 add move
Drops aren’t uniques
No x-dex will be used
Barfly, paradon, double over down and down double down all ending to same side clipper are only one unique trick (and their symposium versions too). Also reaper and double switch over will be same trick. So setting surface doesn’t make more uniques in those tricks. Means also that hand toss dod is equal to normal dod and therefore not a unique trick.

This rule doesn’t affect on moves with a set! fairy ss butterfly<->tapping butterfly are still two unique moves, because they have different sets (fairy<->tapping). Also paradon and tapping butterfly are 2 unique tricks.
The last move of your run will be the one last *set* before the buzzer."

I am not a fan of these rules, but of course I have no say in them (I did when the thread was active a while ago). I wonder how they will affect the competition and which players will lose adds because their Shred 30s are more toe based than clipper based. Thoughts?

Sounds like anti-vasek rules to me...

I guess they arent counting paradox either, seeing as they arent counting Xdex?

(i know they are counting paradox. But if they dont count x dex they shouldnt count paradox either.)

I like these rules.
I disagree on the double downs, because I believe they are unique, but I think it works. I like the no xdex, and the reaper and double switch also makes sense, even though they are unique tricks.
Good stuff.

These are the rules for now, it gives some change and makes shred30 harder. It will be more interesting like this.

I really think X dex is just as important and accurate as paradox. If you guys dont wanna use X dex then you should think of some other sensible rule to cancel out.

Just to give it more variety. Like a clipper and a ducking clipper are the same thing.

If you take the time to read the official IFPA rules you'll see that the rules being used are those rules - or at least the best interpretation of them. Various official and unofficial IFPA groups/committees are working on updating the IFPA rules right now - which will include the usage of x dex, but in my opinion (and probably the opinion of the worlds people) it is a lot better for the sport if major events use the official rules - rather than making up their own rules at any events. At this stage competitions tend to use different rules that are similar. Hopefully one day soon all tournaments (or at least IFPA tournaments) will use the exact same rules with the same judging guidelines and we'll be one step closer to being a sport and not an informal past time.

If by interesting, you mean boring... I predict that not counting xdex (or xspin) will lead to decreased variety within shred :30. I wonder what percentage of the tricks hit in this year's shred :30 will be paradox whirling tricks.

I agree with Mike on that - x dex and x spin should definitly be counted. But as I said, I'm not a fan of just making up rules. The rules should be in the book if they're going to be used. Personally I'm pretty confident that x dex and x spin will be accepted into the rules before the next worlds.

I was talking more of the trick uniqueness. Double Downs will not play big role this year.

Oh, okay.

Well, in terms of xdex and xspin, I don't think that tricks covered by xdex and xspin will play a big role this year either. So much so that I doubt a single trick covered by those modifications will be hit in the top 10 shred :30's.

i don't like the idea of making harder tricks worth fewer adds. seems like a clipper monopoly to me.

Mike wins! I didn't see a single xdex / xspin trick this year. I did see a fair number of stepping sets, pixie sets, and paradox whirling tricks.
