Firstly thanks so much for the video!! Incase people didn't know - I've been working pretty hard the last month at updating the official IFPA rules etc. so I've been going over them lots. I used this vid for an opportunity to practice judging with my current knowledge of the rules because I've never judged an open event before. Here are the comments I wrote while watching and the scores. I'll comment on the results at the end

Lise:
Good Variety. Solid moves. Appears to be little choreography. Mainly in time with music. Choreography improves. Drop heavy.
Tech 3.4 Art 3.1

Verena:
Solid Clipper Stuff. Solid dexing. Choppy - short strings. Good choreography. Very little tech apart from dexes. Not many drops.

Tech 3.6 Art 3.6

Tina:
Great Timing. Solid shuffle. Good pause. Good crowd interaction. Nice flow. Awesome finish - excellent timing. Little drops.

Tech 4.8 Art 5.0

Felix
Looks very controlled. Good timing. Hard moves but controlled. Knows music well. Strong Tech. 1 drop.

Tech 5.6 Art 5.7

Honza
Good crowd interaction. Solid but one sided. Not much chor. Solid variety. Some attempts at art. Not good music choice. Dropless

Tech 5.6 Art 5.2

Vasek
Put off by drop. Hard tech. Back on track. Somd dds look thin. Looks like missed cue for juggle. Excellent variety and timing. Great build up. Strong music/tech. 1 drop

Tech 5.8 Art 5.7

Basically with the open mens I though Vasek was still technically way better than Honza or Felix. I think you guys are clearly judging him on past performances rather than in an objective manner. He hit way harder moves and had a lot better timing with the music and choreography. Honza may have choreographed his routine but the music really didn't allow for much choreography to be noticed apart from playing on the beat. He also only used his left toe for one guiltless move. Felix had a great routine and with more tech then Honza but lost points for the drop (as did Vasek). Felix's routine was well choreographed and looked very solid. He clearly wasn't as technical as Vasek and didn't have the variety either but I rated the choreography to be of an equal level. Actually I thought Vasek looked off at the start (after the drop) and was a bit out of time - however the choreography in the second half of his routine the spins and then the bulid up with the music was definitly the best of any player - so his score evened out to still be pretty high. Felix was more consistant but didn't have the presence that Vasek had in his second half. Coincidence that they scored the same for art but I think fairly accurate.

The shred and sick 3s were awesome. Yves shred especially was fantastic.

Vasek rutine was really hard, but he looks scared.

Honza was really safe with himself, but the rutine wasn't frenetic.

Felix repaet the greman open rutine (the beginig) if he made a droppless maybe he will be 2n.

Amazing sick 3... very SICK

before this vid gets too mass distributed, I thought Id let you know there are some typos in the text at the beginning: "Momen" for women, and "Clouda" for Klouda. Thats all Ive found so far.

It just wasn't a good routine song. It's way longer than 2 minutes, and he just kind of cut it off, right in the middle of a phrase. There wasn't really an ENDING to it; it just sort of stopped.

Those were the comments I wrote while watching the routine. I thought I made that clear. Obviously I don't have time to explain myself while watching or I'll miss the rest of the routine. I thought I explained what I meant in my comments below but I'll say it again anyway.

I said bad music choice for Honza because the music didn't allow him to do much choreography at all. Compare Honza's routine to Vasek, Felix and Tina where they are clearly doing very specific moves at particular times in the music. Not just playing on the beat - but hitting a move or a series of moves exactly choreographed with the music. For most of Honza's routine it is impossible to see if that's what he's doing or not. He obviously knew his music well - as did all the competitors I'm sure - but compared with the other routines showing that you know the music just isn't enough. It has nothing to do with me liking the music or not - it just didn't allow him very much choreography. He may have choreographed ever single move but from a judging point of view you just couldn't tell. Going dropless gave him better scores and took down Vasek and Felix' but otherwise the gap would have been a lot greater in my routine. People complain that Vasek's routines are just shred - they clearly have a lot better choreography than Honza's routine that really did look mainly like he was just shredding to me. Just playing in time with the music is a very low level of choreography - you need to do a lot more than that to get a perfect score. Honza clearly had bits that were well choreographed - scoring 5 or over for a routine is supposed to mean it's an excellent routine and his was. Just no where near the level of Vasek and Felix.

The girls routines are at the start of the video - it contains the top 3 girls routines, then the top 3 guys routines, then the top 3 guys shred 30s then the top 3 guys sick 3s!!

firstly IMO i think Vasek's routine was the best, although that was one of the most highest competition levels ive ever seen!

By the way who went first in routines for men?

Honza was aweseom though, it was cool how they made him say his sick 3 combos

shred 30 was awesome too

First off, thanks for posting the video and for getting the routines shred 30 and sick 3 and one all in one video.

After watching I'm a little surprised Vasek won. I think he had the best/most difficult routine, but he didn't do it very well. He looked nervous, obviously flubbed a couple of tricks and miss-timed some elements that were obviously supposed to be timed to the music. I'm glad I didn't have to make the call and I don't know how I would have judged the routines had I seen them live, but it reminds me of something that came up a long time ago on the footbag.org e-mail list: how important is name recognition?

Back in that discussion a few people admitted to judging BAP players differently than someone they'd never seen before. I can think of a couple times in competition when (arguably of course) someone either won, or was bumped higher in the ranking only because people knew how good they were, not necissarily how well they performed in that competition. I'm not saying that happened at Euros, but I think it's a good question to ask every now and then.

Actually, at Euros there was something like that

. Everyone in Poland thinks that Damian Piechocki and/or Kamil Wysocki should be in finals, because they had awesome rutines. Unfortunately they aren't well known players in Europe and someone else came to finals. Ehh, shit happens

I loved Felix's routine. Not a fan of Vasek's routine. Honza's routine was chill, but I didn't like his music either. Tina's finish was just so cool it made me laugh and say "Wow, that is really cool."

I would've said Felix>Vasek>Honza.

Sick 3 was really cool to watch. That was really funny when the judge had to get Honza to announce his tricks.

Overall, a great video - thanks!
