Tell me about the police in your area. Im planning on joining the force in a years time or so, yet i had the interesting idea of going away to join. Like my father has a house in spain, learning spanish and being a copper over there for a while would be an experience of a lifetime. Then i started wondering about other areas of the world.
So, in your area, what are your police known for? What sort of conditions do they have to put up with? Pay?
Stuff like that....Do they carry guns? etc.

The cops in my town have nothing to do so they write tickets for the dumbest thing. Someone in my neighborhood had a TREE stolen from their front yard, and since we live near them we got called and questioned about it. ITS A TREE!!

So pretty much everyone hates them because they have to meet their ticket quota for the month, so they write tickets for

-riding bike on main street
-going 5 over the Speed limit
etc.

Okay, IMO I think people should realize that the Speed Limit is a Speed LIMIT. Going 5 over is still breaking the limit. Just because everyone else is going 10-15 over does not mean it is cool to go 5 over. I get bothered by that sometimes when I am in the SLOW LANE and I'm going the limit, maybe even 1 or 2 over, and people are on my tail like I murdered their grandmother with a dull kitchen knife. This is not to say that I don't speed sometimes, but I get bothered that people think that it's okay to speed constantly. The laws are the laws. If you're not going to follow them, then work on getting them changed, follow them, or go somewhere else.

My girlfriend's sister wants to join the force and we discovered that generally, here in Winnipeg, they are really bad at doing their job.

Marita went to watch a murder trial at the court house, which was really intense involving a chopped up body and Susan Saradon(?)'s (an actor that was filming in Winnipeg with Richard Gere) stolen jewely. The two officers who discovered the body and had the suspect give himself up to them weren't able to give very good evidence because they didn't pay attention at the scene of the crime. They couldn't remember really important details like if there was blood on the floor, or what the suspect was wearing, or things like that.

That's all I really know.
I don't see many police.
Oh, and we are the murder and crime capital of Canada @______@

Cops here are more or less good people. Even thier dealings with finding weed have improved greatly over the last few years. At one point a police officer, upon finding weed on someone would go the whole nine yards, even arrest a kid, but now adays they just steal it and are on their merry way. A much more positive resolve. There are so many grow ops here that they just cant be bothered any more with the customers at the bottom of the chain. Although you call one cop in the east end suburbs of ottawa and the whole fucking fleet shows up.
It's a very low crime area.

cops here are all kids I went to high school with that strangely ALL signed up for the police program at our college and I hate them all. Most of the cops in kingston are crooks, beating up homeless and people of non caucasian decent for no reason, busting people for the stupidest things near the end of the month because they are trying to reach their quota and just generally unsafe idiots.

but they look good in parades though
