Bill Hicks had some of the funniest skits. I personally like this one.

Pot is a better drug than alcohol, fact! Say you get into a car accident and you've been smoking pot, well you're only going four miles an hour. *car noise, car crash noise*. Shit, dude, I think we hit something. We forgot to open the garage door man. We better get it open so dominoes knows we're home!

haha great stuff

Decriminalization

Post by dizzy »

I'll weigh in on this issue by saying that I don't think legalization, as it would likely be implemented, would be a good thing at all.

I can only speak to the situation in Canada and the US, but in the current "globalized" economy I believe the following principles would hold true for many countries.

Marijuana legalization would likely mean complete government control from taxation to distribution(an undesirable thing IMHO) and the economic effect of shutting down a multi-billion dollar black market could reek havoc on already unstable Canadian and US markets.

Any economics major can tell you that for most economies, prosperity or even plain old survival, is dependant on a substantial black market that pumps cold hard cash into peoples pockets. This is especially true when that economy is based almost entirely on trading intangible assets like stocks and bonds. These measures of wealth mean nothing without *cash flow*, and this is very much the situation in Canada and the US. Marijuana accounts for a *huge* portion of black market dollars. Remove that and there would be a ripple effect that would probably have very negative consequences.

Yes, revenue to the government from taxation would certainly be of some benefit, but do you really believe they are spending the money they already have wisely?

Standardization in pricing could also be possible a benefit of legalization, but I think a corresponding standardization in *quality* would follow. If you ask me, diversity is the spice of life

Most marijuana growers already utilize the most state of the art culitvation techniques as you can plainly see by the dramatic increase in potency since the 1960's. I don't think handing over the reigns of production to inexperienced government farmers growing massive crops would do anything to increase quality. Leave it to the pro's who already know.

So, given the current political and economic status quo in these two respective countries, I believe legalization would be a detrimental thing. Legalization is supposed to be about "freeing the weed", but in reality, it would mean the exploitation and condemnation to slavery to giant "tobacco" corporations.

Ideally, maybe economic collapse would be a great thing as the status quo in Can/US is an out of control mess and maybe it would be ironic and just if marijuana legalization contributed to it's downfall, but that's a whole other issue.

I believe in legalization for medicinal purposes and research(prohibition has set scientific research into the effects of marijuana back decades) and *decriminalization* for everyone else.

Decriminalization would make public possession and use of marijuana a misdemeanor offense equatable to a speeding ticket with *no jail time possible*. People would be free to do what they wanted within their own homes, but much like alcohol, consumption in public would be limited. Perhaps "coffee shops" would be tolerated.

There would still be the possibility of ridiculous raids on grow operations, but reduced penalties for this activity within the realm of decriminalization would make the effects of such misappropriations of government power impotent and pointless. In short, they'd have better things to do :)

Of course, Hemp is an entirely different issue and that should be legalized immediately as it is a plant that could save the planet.

Very interesting. I don't know about canada, but with the US currently going broke because of president idiot, would more things being taxed be a good thing. And without the risk of being caught, wouldn't the prices go down enough to make the taxes fit into the current pot smokers budget?

EDIT: How ya doin slacker, still clean? If not, how far dya get?

It looks like my scheme of selling weed-filled footbags to little kids has been discovered. Anybody have any better ideas?

I'd like to do that, but the smell would prolly result in the confiscation of the bag, if used at school, I guess i could not play with it at school, hmm, I'll look into it.

alright, here is my attempt in making a verrry long sentence, so im am not going to end it till i come to the end, obvioulsy, but i don't see that happining any time soon, so i guess i might go ahead and say, yeah my tolerence is down, waaaay down, but thats not a problem, yaknow, its just, another thing that will happen when you take a break, so i think you catch my drift about that, also id like to point out that, as i have always beleived, pot makes music sound better, more cripst, much deeper, and i really dig that, since i love music so much, without music man, i don't know were id be, mayby dead, who knows, so before i end this sentance id also like to say, that i am not ashamed about being in love with weed, i am not a druggie, and i don't really like other drugs, it kinda makes me sad knowing that people see, i loke pot, and think, OH, fucking druggie, and there respect level goes down some, i don't think thats cool, but again, i don't expect them to understand, so this is the end, of a beautiful thing, a very long sentance, from me to you.
