im from america and ive realized that people are just generally nicer abroad. im in spain right now and everyone is super nice. people will just walk up to you and start talking to you, its really cool. i guess im just not used to that. people in america are generally assholes. Europe is soo much cooler.

PS: Oh yeah i met some guys from montreal at a gaudi park. if your on modified please respond.

Actually, he is right, since he is So Cal.

I lived in SoCal for 5 years and never had anybody from the area acknowledge my existence. No friendly chitchat. No head nods when passing someone on the sidewalks. Nothing.

Every person I met there was from the middle of the country or the east coast. Mainly because they are the people that talk back.

I've since moved to Oakland and I meet local people all the time.

It's not that all americans are assholes it seems to be limited to a specific region of california where people don't understand common courtesy that is so prevalent everywhere else civilization has spread.

Agreed. People are reluctant to talk to you or look at you in SoCal, granted they are even outside without being in an automobile. It's certainly not the culture to be overtly friendly here.

Yeah I agree with Tsiangkun and Ted, people around here suck. When I visit other parts of the US I'm always reminded of how un-friendly SoCal is.

this is totaly true. my friend just came back from germeny an told me pretty much the Exsact same thing, he summed it up to ppl in the US are assholes as well.

I wouldn't say that they're are all assholes. You guys seem ok. It's the religion dictating fanatics of America that kind of freak me out. It's ok to have faith in something, but don't wave it around..

dangit, i wish this wasnt the discussion section, because then i could be completely in the clear when i say it was pretty damned funny. but also could be true.
and honestly i like the reputation of curt, rushed, smarmy american culture...and the (ok this may only be me) citizens of other countries having a reputation of being niave and unintelligent.

hm. i didnt say that, but lemme ponder that....
ok, i pondered. and the answer is obvious...in moderation i have no problem with 'niceness'...but i appreciate the no-nonsense attitude, and niceness to the point of innocence (maybe even to the point of vulnerability) i definitely dont find beneficial.

also, i meant to say (but no edit button

Id say that once you get into larger cities or such in the US, common courticy dissipates. You jsut pass people one by one, now acknolwedgement of anyone. I've had people close doors to stores in my face, not attempting to hold it open or anything.

But then again, in a small town such as the one i live in. People always hold doors, so thankyous and being kind. some type of acknowledgement of the other entities around you.
