I found an image from footbag.org that I would like to edit and use for a tshirt. The only problem is that the picture is copyrighted. What I would like to do is crop the image and turn it into true black and white, not greyscale. Would I need permission first to do this?

I think there has to be a point where you have edited the image so much that it then becomes your work, but obviously the lines can be blurry, so I can see why the law stands where it does now.

If you are going to sell these shirts, then you really need permission, but if you are just making one for yourself, I don't see it as a problem at all.
If you are selling them, I think it only right that the person that took the photo gets some compensation, no?

The image is on footbag.org, but they do not own the copyright to the image. Its copyrighted by CFA. I am thinking about selling maybe less than 20 shirts, nothing big. Is this a big deal still and should I ask for permission. How would other players/customers think if I didn't ask for permission fist?
