Shredding Blind?

Post by professor »

During the whole Damon' Flammin' thing about catching the bag with your hand, Damon said that he shredded "blind".

Now, obviously this doesn't really mean he shreds with his eyes closed or something, but I have no idea what it means. Can someone help an ignorant guy out?

EDIT: Nevermind, I was told what it was. Shredding blind is when you need glasses or contacts to see, but you don't wear them when you shred. This makes everything blurry so you have to rely more on muscle memory than your vision.

So as to not let this topic go to waste I'll add a poll to see how many people shred blind and/or wear contact/glasses.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

i have to wear glasses, so i shred with them...though if im cleaning them or something when someone tosses me a pass, i do a string 'blind' just for fun...usually works out ok, but i definitely prefer with my glasses, despite them slipping down every 5 seconds, and sweat getting all over them.

i would...but i have a weird phobia about anything at all touching my eyes. like in elementary school when all the other little kids were poking the surface of their own eye to show off, i refused to go anywhere near it. instead i would do stuff like licking the bottom of my shoe, stretch the skin off my elbow (its freakish, i have like 3 inches of length off the elbow) and stuff like that.

Who else practices there bops wile looking at other people?? I do. its fun and creeps people out sometimes. Ussualy after a nasty combo I'll just do infinities while staring the person right in the eyes. I've gotten 4 or 5 before, typical 2 or 3.

OH yea and also on any moves where the bag naturaly goes blind you can look up at people. osis, spining clip and ducking clip are awsome candidates.

I take my glasses off when I shred, because they slide around a lot, from sweat & spinning. I don't really have a problem seeing the bag - I'm near-sighted, so up close it's fine....

I can 3ball juggle blind, for quite a few throws, the best way I found to practice was sitting cross-legged, so that you don't have to go far to pick up the drops, because you drop a lot.
When I was practising a lot, I could blind 2 ball throwup start, and do several repeats of mills mess.

well since I use contacts I've never tried shredding "blind" but it doesn't seem all that hard because even though my vision is bad I don't mind walking around without them on. On the topic of vision I know at one point I actually had better then 20/20 vision with contacts on (probably like 20/10) but without contacts on my vision was horrible. If the contacts adjusted my eyes up past 20/20 why don't they do that for everyone?

Yeah I don't normally do that but the other day I was showing somebody how big moves look cool even if they are easy and I did really big clip set far symple legover and then told him - it's pretty much exactly the same as the non symple version - just looks cooler and proceeded to hit clip>far legover repeat (only one side for 2 or 3 contacts) then said "I probably don't even need to look to hit this and looked up at him and hit another 2 or three contacts.

I kick while not looking at the bag a lot - but never for very long.
