I don't think I have any phobias but people who are scared of spiders really piss me off (sorry Chris) - I guess that's like a phobia except I get angry instead of scared (irrationally). Spiders are so cool and so harmless - spiders with lots of venom hardly ever bite.

Yes, but all it takes is that one time they do bite and your toast.

It's kinda like when people say you're more likely to get in a car accident on the way to the airport than getting in a plane crash. But when you get in a car accident you have a good chance of living whereas if you get in a plane crash you might as well bend over and kiss your butt goodbye. That's why they tell you to put your head between your legs in a crash you know...

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

yeah well Australia is home to the most dangerous spiders in the world - the Redback and the Sydney Funnel Web for example. The Sydney Funnel Web can potentially kill a person in 30 minutes if the bite is untreated. However nobody in Australia has died of any spider bite in the last 25 years - this is not because the spiders are uncommon but because like all spiders - they only rarely bite people. The Sydney Funnel Web is actually found in the highest density population part of Australia (sydney) and the surrounding area.

So while there is obviously the potential of being "toast" from one bite - the chances of it happening are very low - basically you have to either out in the outback - too far away from any kind of medical support and no anti venom (which would make you a pretty stupid person) or you have to ignore the bite or not notice it.

I am afraid of spiders because I was in the hospital for 3 days because of a poisonous spider bite as a child. I guess my immune system hadn't strengthened enough by then.

This is off topic, but isn't there some disease that mice carry that can kill you almost instantly just from inhaling the scent? My girlfriend's mom told me someone died like that a while ago in Winnipeg.

Well they are ugly looking sons of bitches though.

All these statistics about people dying and stuff may be fair and true, but its not dying that make us scared of these animals.
Id rather have a car accident than be bitten by one of these.

speaking of spiders, in the philippines, they have spider fights (they put 2 spiders on a stick and the spiders fight until death). they're pretty cool.
