Bag filler breaking down
Bag filler breaking down
Hey everyone,
I have noticed that my suderbag after break in has become significantly less full (taking into account the fact the bag has streached slightly). Its weight has decreased to like 16grams :s.
Aparently Johnny uses aquarium rocks in his bags. The only way my bag could have lost filler is if they broke down to sand and got washed out of the bag when I clean it.
Does this sound feasable? Is it probable that i have washed the filler out of my bag as sand, and will it happen with my new Pipen bag? Because my suder will be pretty useless till I can find some suitable filler and refill it.
Also, if this is the reason for the bags decreased weight, how do you think the breaking down occured?
>I have finger rolled the bag for several hours (including when wet).
>Washed it multiple times and squeezed it out till no more black water comes out.
Do you think these are the reasons for the breakdown of the filler? If so, how else can I break in my bags so I dont empty them?
Thanks very much!
Nic

it's very easy to add weight to a bag. Find something you think would be good - metal shot for example. Then just slowly poke each piece through the bleed holes. Bleed holes are the bits where the hexegons touch each other - with most bags these days there is no stitching there so it's easy to push the stuff through.
Oh but you said a Suderman bag. In the pictures I've seen it looks like they have triangles instead of hexes. Hmm. Well I guess an easy solution is to undo the thread on one of the panels - use a sharp knife or something to cut the thread. Open it up and put in some more filler. Of course then you need to stitch it back up which might be tricky for you but don't worry too much about that - even if you do the stitching badly it won't effect the bag very much if at all unless it comes undone.

I don't think johnny has triangles, he uses a normal 32 hex and pent design.

AHHH sorry, I jsut realized you sent me a PM! It didn't even pop up or anything.
I used seed beads for a while and they break down after time and just fall out. Since then I've realized taht seed beads are evil and must never be used again.
If you want you can send it to me and I'll refill it for you, I don't have any problems with that.
Let me know!

i find it funny that one person might say something to the effect of : (filler X) sucks and then many people will believe it. Whether or not you like seed beads for your bags, why do you condemn the product and negatively influence other people's opinions about it? Maybe filler X just doesnt mesh well with the stitching type of stitcher X. Let people make up their own minds. Bindly following one person's opinions is an easy way to end up with many stupid people who know nothing, but think they know everything.
ALSO really important here, I believe that filler in a footbag is only a temporary state. By that I mean, when you get a footbag, it is filled to a certain degree but the feel of the bag constantly changes and is never the same once you start to break it in. Similarly, throughout the bag's life, the bag will never stay conpletely similarly weighted. The bag will always decrease weight, the filler will change form/shape/weight, size etc. Nothing in a footbag is permanent. Get used to it. Bags are made to be filled, refilled, bled, and re bled, then refilled again. Dont cry about it, just get yourself some filler from the stitcher you ordered from so you can be the master of your own footbag rather than the stiter's bitch.

Word. Seed beeds do get broken down (especially when mixed with shot, BB's and/or rocks) and it's not uncommon for the pieces to leak through the bleed holes, even if it's just being rolled around in your hand. I would not worry too much about it unless it was an alarming amount... like if the bag went from half full to completely empty in a 2-3 hour session.Get used to it. Bags are made to be filled, refilled, bled, and re bled, then refilled again
