Splint wrote:Pogo is not symposium... ever. You can have Pogo Symposium something...but not Symposium Pogo. The reason being that You pull through on a Pogo (majorly slurry). If you don't then it's not a Pogo.

Actually, it's not supposed to be pulled, but in the 90's era of add hunting, it was slurred. THAT was the basis for not giving it the add, if I remember correctly. It's supposed to be a clean set, but since the major player(s) using it where hitting it like crap, the add was removed. That way nobody had to be told their style was 'the'.

Pogo quickly faded away into history after the add was dropped.

Tripp wrote:Ok, we all know that Stepping is a half dex. If you're implying that Stepping ss Whirl is two full dexes, then that's like saying a Toe Whirl is one and a half dexes, which is completely wrong.
Actually, I'd say that it's (almost) completely right (more like one and a third dex). Under, over, under. We don't "count" partial dexes, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

Look, stepping same whirl circles the bag 720 degrees. To me, this constitutes two full dexes.

But Stepping is still unarguably only a half dex. And you need two dexes that are at least one complete dex each to get an x-dex.

I think some people are confusing the body shift with a dex in the whirl tricks.

Stepping whirl only has 540 degrees of dex, max, and toe whirl is maximally 360 degrees of dex.

Both of these tricks have a body shift, but there is no dex in this motion, it's just a necessity to position for the whirl.

I'm not confused, per say, I just don't see any reason to differentiate between 'body shift' dexing and 'leg movement' dexing, where they meet the same end. What reason is there?

I hate to do this, but I don't have time at the moment to flesh out my perspective on all of this. But for the record, I DO think stepping ss whirl should get x-dex.

Alright, all this discussion is good and all. But lets not get too into it, because even if you end up agreeing that it gets x dex, its still not gonna be a 5. So all of this arguing isnt gonna give you another 5 add.

I voted the first option...It doesn't feel symposium the way I do it though, but it looks symposium the way ellis does it... Its tought to say.

But seriously full sidewalk a 6 add?? you don't even have to set it above your knees.

Just a couple of thoughts/questions?

-Can only full dexes be symposium? If so why? If not, what is the reason that some dexes can be symposium and others not? (symp butterfly vs. symp reverse whirl vs symp tapping etc. etc.)

-I don't think that the add system should take into account whether or not a particular concept gets slurred/the'd alot, and award adds based on that. If pogo should get [symp] per definition of symposium, the fact that it is easy to slur should have nothing to do with it, nor should the fact that it doesn't feel particularly symposium change anything (alot of tricks doesn't feel pdx, yet are).

-If someone the's a trick, call them. I don't think adds should be used to discourage hitting some moves, ie. by saying that certain concepts doesn't get adds because they get slurred/the'd. (Blurrage and ripstein gets thuhd alot, should they also then lose an add?)

-Is add hunting really still a problem? When last did you call someone for add hunting, or thought that someone add hunted? Or when last did you hit a trick in a run that is considered cheap just for the adds? Be honest. Personally, I don't care about adds, don't hit pogo, don't hit symp butterflies, dadas etc. (although I think those can be stylee), but still think that tricks that are symposium per definition, should get [symp] adds. Sure, some people might hit a move or two for extra adds in shred30, but at least it will increase the variety in shred in general (aswell as in shred30).

Just because one wasn't around when all these things were first discussed among freestylers doesn't mean that new shredders can disregaurd the standards set by people who invented the moves/concepts.

No.
What I was saying is that there is virtually no screwing up a Pogo set. "Clean Pogo" = Oxymoron. Pogo's are pulled through whether it was originally intended to be that way or not. If you were to do the set so clean that it wasn't pulled through, then you would have something much closer to a clipper set symposium mirage... except that no one wants to give symposium status to half-dex moves (unless of course it's a symposium torque).

It fricking is a clipper set symposium mirage, that's what it is supposed to be, and the easy ass clipper set symposium mirage gets the frickin add. If you dance around the bag, it's a clean set, clean symposium mirage, and then whatever after that.

PULL THROUGH is when the bag is ON or practically ON the foot, and the dex has already been completed.

If you slur your shit, that's your business, but claiming it's supposed to be that way is just plain wrong.

That's all well and good Cameron, but 99.9% of Pogos are slurred and you even said yourself that that is the reason the symposium add was removed. Since then it has become the accepted way to do Pogo.

I think it's pretty consistant in footbag that no matter how badly we want something to be a certain way because "that's how it was originally inteded", the ebb and flow of newcomers tends to take things in a new direction. Pogo is/was one of those things.

I personally don't think it has ever been accepted that pogo should be hit like a steamy pile of shite. I said I thought it was supposed to be clean, and the add was yanked because the add hunters were doing the trick poorly, and they were the primary users of the concept. Rather than reward poor style with additional adds, the adds was yanked. You completely missunderstood what I meant. It's not supposed to be slurry, the add was yanked because people were using the concept cheaply to get adds. The adds were yanked andd the concept faded from the game. The concept itself is a clean symposium mirage set, and always has been, IMO.

oh well, the newbies seem to understand what the trick is today.

SO, pogo IS a slurry trick. I guess the reason you don't see more of it is because slurry is generally a bad thing.

It's like a half assed reverse hop over where you don't keep the bag on the foot through the whole trick combined with a half assed blur set where the bag is set before the dex.

Way to combine the very worst way to hit two different tricks and give it a name that was originally supposed to be something else altogether.

Go newbies, Go newbies, Go, Go, Go Go, Go Newbies.

First of all, I LOVE nates second to last, and last post. LMAO

First off, half dexes and symposium. Symp pixie is basically a half dex, is it not? It still gets symposium status. Its definatly not a full dex. What about symp atomic ss clipper? The symp atomic is also a half dex, not a full dex.

The last two examples show two moves with half dexes which are symposium. Those examples rightfully get symposium. The theory behind "half dexes don't get symposium which is why symp butterfly and POGO do not get symposium" obviously is not completely true when looked on from a bigger picture.

Discussing THE. How easy, when you're learning, is it to THE double downs, whirls? Even now, I THE double downs and whirls on occasion. How easy is it to THE the second dex? Not that hard. If what I have seen "Pogo is easy to THE and slur, therefore it doesn't get symposium", then should the second dex on a paradon not get a DEX add because it too is easy to THE??

Sorry if that seems off the topic, but if you think about this on a bigger picture, the points you have all brought up, (not all of them, and I am looking at both sides), don't seem to make sense. I am still stand firm on believing POGO is symposium and DOES deserve the add, simply by the definition of symposium. The definition of symposium never excluded half dexes, nor how easy the dex was to the or slur.

Pogo should get symposium and the ADD for symposium. I still think this. Who agrees with what I have said, and why? And who does not agree, and why. Thanks! Peasce.
