Are you the infamous Drifter???

Post by Bono »

I'm having a tough time with toe-set Drifters. Hit one yesterday, and then another this morning, but I just can't skool 'em. Spent about two hours today just trying to hit drifters... I kept kicking them because I have to go so fast. Also, they keep knocking into my leg on the dex... because I have to hop slightly, right? It just ain't working out. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, are Drifters supposed to be leggy or hippy? I've been doing them hippy... can't get the speed leggy, and its looks way more styly hippy.

Hey Chico,
As for many moves, you can do drifers leggy or hippy. Personnaly I prefer them leggy (esp. after seeing Ales and Vasek do them). The advantage to that is being able to do harder drifting moves:
pdx drifter
blurry drifter
smoke
stepping/atomic/fairy etc. drifter

Here are some tips that helped me out a lot:
set about waist high at first (higher when you get good at them) pretty close to the body. Hop while doing your dex and don't forget to TURN (a LOT). Hope that helps.

yeah im bad with drifters too.
i tried vortex the other day. kind of close. if my drifter was better id have it.

speed is key. you wanna whip your leg around the bag at the last second.

Well if you look at this photo of Chad (I think it's him anyway) doing a drifter down some stairs:
Image

you'll notice he sets it very high and that in the end he has spinned 180 degrees (roughly)...

What is the difference between doing a trick "leggy" and "hippy"? :?

I hit a lot of mid-run leggy Drifters at the park today! Thanks for your help everyone.

There were some skater kids at the skatepark (where I always play) and they were sitting along a lip in a halfpipe, and one of them turned around to watch me and and this other guy shredding... a couple minutes later he turns to his friends and tells them to watch. But instead of being cool about it, this one guy was looking at me like "Man, do you realize how stupid you look trying to be serious about hacky-sack?" So I looked at him and thought "Yeah, maybe it does look stupid. I guess I should be like you guys and go buy a skateboard so I can sit around the halfpipe and keep people wondering whether I can even skate." So today was a good day. :D

p.s. no offense to the skaters... I used to be an aspiring skateboarder, before I saw the light. And I still skate sometimes, when I feel like it. But these kids who sit around in their little groups at the skateparks for hours thinking they're all bad just because they have a skateboard and a hat... that ain't right. I don't respect that.

Cuz you gotta play to win.

there's four of us... I made a website: http://321shred.tripod.com
the other three guys in my club don't have enough playtime to be able to take the sport as seriously as me... they do school. (I think they think I'm obsessed. But I'm not - just addicted ;) )
three of us should be at Worlds. Ryan, Chris, and myself. Caleb (aka Grebox) will be in the Ukraine.

my fav flipsider video is the sickening. i watch a lot of that 'reallife' crap on tv. i find it really addictive. i just think its neat to see the behind the scenes of one of the biggest tournaments out there.
"i hope everybody else out there dies!" :)

my alltime fav is eric windsors, "just shred". its got everything. definately a classic. mostly ryan. lots of wicked (obviously), lon (old skool!), some chad, genzu. and some sweet ahren runs (though not many).
one of my fav combos off the video is ryans ps whirl > bedwetter. he also hits blur out of superfly. big apple > superfly, etc.

Juan: I guess you have to really get into the cheesiness of that skit on Lions Den to appreciate it. For my part, I love it. I think it's hilarious, the way they patterned it after a low-budget dubbed Japanese flick.

I really liked the skit. AG and the Lion's Den are great, but too short. Foot in Mouth (combination of two movie: Footage and Bust Out Now) is 1.5-2 hours and has some great stuff in there (Sunil's Nemesis bothside same run, ect...). Unfotunatily the quality isn't as good as Eli's or Chad's videos.
