For the sake of clarity: THE EVENT that has been referred to is 'Bruxelles les Bains'. The idea: Every summer there's an artificial beach in the centre of Brussels. This year, our club has been asked to do some on-stage demos etc.
We (Club chef Seb, Alexis, me) checked out the site on Wednesday for an introductory shred and the spot seems really nice. Well, when we got there it was raining and there was NO ONE around. Half an hour later when we were warming up the sun peeped out and attracted a small but really interested crowd to the stage where we were kicking. Nice! I'm really getting the hang of this demo stuff. Key is to avoid drops, to watch your style and rhythm. Seb handed the DJ a Fatboy Slim CD which had some tracks with a good rhythm.
However, we're going hardcore this weekend when Max from Paris and Justin from Aachen join us. Hah!

I've been kicking less lately. The last few days I've been compiling a video from my July footage. It turns out pretty nice for a first video hehe. I'll try and post it online soon.
Last week I had some interesting sessions though.

Also a funny occurrence when my girlfriend's dad was watching me when I was kicking. I was just doing some guiltless runs and tripless combos, when all of a sudden he asked: 'Yes, but can you stall the bag on the back of your neck?' I said yes and did a few neck stalls, and kept myself from starting to explain the add system.
OK dudes, I hope my knee will serve me well tomorrow during the demo, cuz it's been acting funny the last few days.

I had so much fun last weekend! In total I must have played over 10 hours of footbag.
The Brussels club represented on Bruxelles-les-Bains both on saturday and sunday. We (that is Alexis, Seb, me) welcomed some international guests, like Max (France), and net gods Andy (Canada) and Justin (Germany).
I have to say Justin has amazed me as a freestyler. Though he hardly ever plays freestyle he is solidly tiltless, and he improved exponentially over the weekend so that he was busting hard threes and fours on sunday. Potential! I am curious what his possibilities would be should he dedicate himself to freestyle full-time.
I have also found out that I know shit about net when I was overhearing a conversation between Andy and Justin.
Max went hardcore as usual. Veeery long runs, lots of big tricks, much applause. He intends to enroll in the online competition on modified with some sick tricks we caught on tape.
On the level of the Brussels club it was really satisfying to see Seb finally nail that tap (twice!) after months of being 'really fucking close'. Solid tiltless runs.
Alexis is discovering the benefits of Lavers. Saw him do some amazing flying spinning stuff.
I got close to a bunch of fours and fives but hit only paradox blender BS (couldn't seal it). I also figured out downtime drifter, more than a year after I first hit drifter. Grrr. Paradox drifter on its way.
A LOT of attendance on both days. Only afterwards I realised I'm really comfortable around audience these days. I'm developing a host of safety tricks and crowd pleasers. Heheh.
In spite of the original plan, we haven't played on-stage at all. It seems footbag is more 'accessible' when it is played on the same level as the spectators, so we played in front of the stage on both days, with succes. On saturday there was a house DJ on stage, which added an extra flavour to the shred. On sunday there was mainly soundcheck on stage, which was cool nevertheless.
It seems French TV has a tremendous influence on people's perception of footbag. I've been told that a while ago Vasek performed in a show that has as its main idea "records in wack disciplines". He established like a record in ducking clippers or so. Now 5 out of 10 reactions from spectators have to do with that TV show. It's awkward, but at least people 'know' and recognise footbag now.

Yeah Wim props for kicking ass at those demos.
I think that the crowd pleasure you could own the fastest would be consecutive double atw! You've got them E-A-S-Y on both sides, and I've noticed, by seeing others, that consec double atw really have a nice effect on crowds.

Whoever has been reading this thread and my challenge thingie must have noticed that PS whirl is one of my favourite moves (to watch) and on top of my 'new tricks to hit' list.
Well, on monday I was 1 inch away from PS whirl at least 5 times on each side. For me this was the most exciting session ever! You probably know the feeling when you're close to a big trick and you feel that every new try could be 'THE FIRST HIT'. *HHHHH* Soo pre-orgasmic.
Then on tuesday I actually stalled a PSW, but was so surprised I forgot to set the bag up again. Darn.
Well Wim, better luck today.
Blurry whirl (another of those favo moves since I checked out Ahren's blurry whirl in the trick section on .org more than a year ago) is within my grasp too.

I haven't shredded hardcore for days/weeks, but I schooled some new and (tough) old combos yesterday evening. Satisfying session. For Germany: I hope to attain a good shred level, have fun, meet lotsa new people, perhaps buy a bag, and get home safe on sunday evening (which I should, because I leave for Crete with my girlfriend the next day!).

That tournament was a blast! It was cool to meet 'old' and new people (like Dylan Fry and Daryl Canady - the latter turned out to read this blog! 
). I intended to shred with them at some point, but somehow that didn't happen 
It was also really cool to meet Jochen Bauer (the 'father' of my best 32 panel) in real life. We had never seen each other before but people had told me he was around. So I designed to goof around him at some point, pop out the bag in question (very recognisable with light blue, dark blue, red highlights) and see if Jochen would realise who I was.
That didn't happen either, as I lost the bag just before I met him. Then, Jochen found it again for me, which was pretty freaky.
I was quite impressed with the overall level of the competition and random craziness, even though some of Germany's sickest players weren't attending.
As to my own shred-highlights, I would say there are few. My shred was okay, but I played really well only a few hours on sunday.
-new ripwalk record (12?)
-some really clean and effortless pixie ducking clippers, and close phoenix attempts. Thanks to a really tall nice German bloke of whom I don't remember the name
but who had the sweetest pixducks you can imagine.
After the tournament I sort of ended up taking a two week sabbatical from footbag, which was bad for my game as I had this good vibe going after the tournament. But it was just impossible to shred daily when I was on holidays last week.
Crete is one lovely isle. Too warm for shred this time of year, but the people, the sea, the food, the atmosphere... delicious. I will definitely go back in the future.
This weekend, I'm getting my gear on again for some demos and initiations near Brussels. Due to todays' temperatures and the shred terrain (a SLOPING LAWN fer kryin out loud!) I'm pretty devastated after the first day of the event. Now that I think of it, it feels as if this computer screen slants to one side too. Hell! I've stood on slopes for toooo long today.
Max -previously from Paris- moved to Brussels just yesterday, so I guess he's part of the Brussels crew now.

Welcoming Justin, Nils, and Jochen to the neighbourhood event in Brussels was pretty sweet. I think it was the first time ever that more than five guiltless footbag players were on Belgian territory at the same time. Nice!
First we shredded on the slopes of the park, but when we were (almost literally) sick of that, we moved down the street. There was this spot just about big enough to hold 5 freestylers and Max’ girlfriend in between a super market parking lot and a bus stop. We attracted a lot of attention there, given that we had taken the club’s brand new GHETTOBLASTER with us. What a powerful machine! At some point I went off to take a weewee around the corner. I went pretty far, but there was no way escaping the bass. DUMDUMDUM.
Max had hurt his ankle on the tricky park lawn on Saturday so he couldn’t go (very) hardcore the day after. I too felt that soreness kept me from shredding at my ‘best’ level.
Still I finally hit paradox blender strongside and got some more-than-waist-high sailings (thanks to Nils). I should definitely do something with that. Also paradox legbeater again (first and only try), a trick I hadn’t thought of in months. I also dusted off my bubbas. I would very much like to do some in guiltless strings (as in ‘ducking/diving bubba’) but I have trouble cleaning a downtime bubba.
We got back uphill in time for the onstage demo. The demo on Saturday must have been the worst ever in the history of footbag (due to morning drowsiness, the sloping stage,… no audience) so I was a bit concerned when Jochen proposed to organise the Sunday demo (that would more or less be the end of the event!) as follows:
1. Jochen’s routine from the German Footbag Open
2. About ten more minutes of circle shred by Justin, Nils, Jochen, and me.
In spite of my worries, I think we did a wonderful demo! Brussels club president Seb gave the (pretty big) audience an introduction on footbag with Jochen as his guinea pig. It went like: ‘footbag matured in blablabla… Jochen will now show you a number of basic tricks. Jochen, do a toe stall. Do an inside stall. Do an outside stall.’ At that point, Nils and I nearly shit our shorts in empathy, because, as you all know, an outside is indeed basic but tricky at the same time. People hardly ever DO outsides! Fortunately, Jochen did fine on this sick trick. After that, he did his routine with very few drops I must say. Then we all hopped on the stage and threw down some combos. UNfortunately, our shred was accompanied by ‘Fatboy Slim is fucking in heaven’, which must be a freaky first impression of the sport.
Still, there was a pretty nice interest at the footbag/frisbee stand afterwards. So we got rid of some bags and flyers again. Yay!
I got home with a bunch of trick tips, which helped tremendously in today’s session. I hit:
-backside smear
-some pretty clean swirls both sides (thanks heaps Nils!)
-pixie whirl both sides
-blurry whirl finally on my strongside (could do flip before)
-paradox torque first try strongside, footed flip
It’s been months since I had a harvest like this one!

I was thinking about coming over to Bxl on sunday because most of the centre will be freed from traffic (which basically means SHRED wherever and whenever--- what a sensation!).
BUT I'll be pretty busy now and the coming weeks. You see, my gf and me are eager to have a place of our own soon. For the moment, we're renovating this house in a nearby town. We would like to move there asap (in a few months), hence busybusybusy.
I'll be removing wallpaper most of the coming w-e, but I will surely inform you of any changes of plans!
