Wong's Footblog: A Chinese kid and his footbag

Post by JFootbagger »

Hey how's it goin'?

This is the first post of my footblog! Exciting....isn't it? Anyways, I guess I should start with how I got into footbag.

*clears throat*
It all started...hmmm...in 6th grade. Hacky sack was like HUGE then; Everyone played it. At recess, you could see like 4-5 different circles of kids kickin' a hackysack. Me and a couple friends would hack all the time: before class, during "free period", after class, during recess, after school. It was just something fun to do and I enjoyed it.

7th grade rolled around and I stilled kept hacking. I got pretty good at it and just stuck with it. Played with friends and such.

Then, the summer of 7th grade hit (2004). I was still hackin' not knowing anything of footbag. My friend looked up some hacky sack tricks on the web and stumbled on footbag.org and told me that there was a club at our school! The president was Dan Iachini, Vice President Mike Park. I sent an e-mail to Dan and later on got together with him for my first footbag session, the session that would start freestyle footbag for me. He showed me what footbag REALLY was. I was so..."flabbergasted" at it and my eyes were 8O in awe. After the session he let me borrow an old pair of lavers and a Mr. Sandbag (later on I would get my own). I love the sport ever since.

Now-a-days, I footbag every other day (if I miss 2 days, I footbag 2 days in a row to make up for lost time). Some of the players I kick with is Josh GayHart, who is amazing and an all around awesome guy. I have a friend named Rob, who is hooked to it, and keeps getting better and better. I also kick with a couple of other pals who are all great.

I'm part of the Seneca Valley Footbag Club (SVFC) at my school. I'm actually the future President due to that Dan Iachini (former President) has graduated. He's done a really good job starting up this club, and I plan to help make it live on!

*cracks knuckles*
Man that was a long intro. Oh well, hopefully it kept you entertained. But yeah, I love footbag, plain and simple. Footbag is just an awesome sport, that allows you to do so much. There's so many moves and concepts that it allows you to be creative and express your self and develop your own style. Footbag is just fun also, I enjoy doing it and I hope that it grows bigger and is recognized.

Well, there ya go, my first post on this blog. I'll try and update this thing as much as I can. Feel free to post whenever you like

Keep on kickin'
-WONG-

Hahah no worries on that! That is like the first law of footbag in my book. Footbag is all about havin' fun and kickin' with other people. :D

Of course representin' and getting better is also important, but if it's not fun, then those two concepts have no meaning :P .

Good point Ken, Good point.

Anyways since it's like 3:13 in the morning (and I'm not sleepy yet) I guess I'll go over today's session *shrugs*.

Today I kicked with a good friend of mine named Dan. Kicked for about an hour or so. Dan is a natural. He hit clipper perfectly on his 3rd or 4th try. He's a real cool guy to, we go way back. Anyways, we kicked today later in the evening...about 8 ish (sun starts to go down so we don't die of heat stroke).

Today for me, I just basically drilled clippers and some clipper moves. Did some simple strings like legover>mirage>clipper set mirage>mirage> and so forth. I've been having some trouble with flipside far legover. It's always the set that's been kickin' my ass. Though lately, I've gotten the set alot better and it feels more natural. So I practiced that tonight (and almost hit it...it was like "there"). Also worked on pdx. mirage (been having trouble with the catch, foot doesn't get there fast enough). Was REALLY close to pdx. illusion. I just missed it by like...half n' inch.

Anyways it was a nice relaxin' sesh 8)

Probably gonna kick with Rob and/or Josh this week.
We'll see what happens.

Anyways, NOW it's time for me to get some sleep (it's 3:21 and I'm tired X_X )

Peace,
-Wong-

Just had a quick basement session (it's like 91 degress out...way to hot to play outside if you ask me).

Did the routine warm-up.
-kicks
-toe stalls and inside stalls
-Clippers
-and my ATW dril: atw (In>out) > op atw (in>out) > op atw (out>in) > op atw (out> in) I do this every sesh, keeps my knees loose

Then broke out into some strings of 2's which is always fun :)
worked on pdx. mirage and flipside farlegover again (both are SO close). Worked on Pixie legover a bit too - hit it on bothsides.

That's pretty much it, nothing exciting...just one of those sessions that you work on stuff.

may footbag later today (mom's at work, dad's at work...home alone....kinda bored).

Peace,

Just thought I'd add a random post.

Was in a chat room on AIM tonight with Ben Adler, Josh Benham, Jeremy Mirken, Pete (Last name...I forget ^_^' ), Jeremy Mirken, Emily Kulczyk, and couple other people who were in and out.

Anyways, talked about footbag-related stuff (since we all footbag, OH MY GOD 8O ). Heh, if I've learned anything today, I've learned that Josh Benham is one freakin' hilarious guy! Man does that dude crack me up. He's real up-beat, random, not affraid to say something so completely ridiculous that makes you go "What? 8O ".

As mentioned, I thought I'd just make this random post.

UH...*thinking what to mention*...I should be kickin' tomorrow with Rob Lorenz (good friend of mine, tiltless player). We'll probably kick in the evening so the sun doesn't make us spontaneously combust

Later 8)

Guess what guys it is 1:07 am and I just got done footbaggin' 8) Not only did I footbag, I was on the flippin' phone WHILE I was kickin'.

Hit flipside pixie legover in a string. Did again strings of 2's. Drilled clippers. Skooled flipside farlegover (again I came so close!!! AHHH IT DRIVES ME INSANE!!!!) I'd figure the more I do it, I'll eventually get it.

Anyways that's all for now

PEACE!

Just had a session with my friend Rob. I have MAD shin splints 8O right now (it's only on my left leg though o_O?). Anyways yeah, I'm quite surprised, because I haven't had them in a long time.

Anyways the session was all right. Rob is a bit rusty (and a little un-motivated; He's been real busy). So I gave him a little advice what to practice and what to focus on and stuff like that. The session was nice though. Drilled the usuall: 2's, clippers, flipside far legover. Nothing really excited happened. I'll be kickin' with him again this saturday, hopefully to get some awesome footage of him for my 2nd video!

Edit: forgot to mention, my flipside clipper are getting stronger. Noticed that today. Drilling clippers always helps kids! *thumbs up*

Today I had a really good session :D

The session included me, Josh Gayhart, my buddy Rob, and Josh's girlfriend, Megan Ambrose. Today I hit flipside farlegover 8) God Finally! I'll still need to perfect it, but damn it did feel good to hit it. Came close again to pdx. mirage and SUPER close to pdx. illusion. I footed it 5 times! AHHH 8O

Rob hit some nice strings. Josh hit some amazing stuff. Not quite sure "what?", because all of his stuff is massive and I can't distinguish it yet.

AND TODAY I FINALLY FINISHED MY 2nd VIDEO!!!! Posting it on .org as I type this entry! Oh man am I psyched that I finished it! Everyone you need to check out this vid! I'll post the link later in the Video section.

PEACE!

Hey I know you.

Yeah, the session the other day was pretty cool. We all played very well and I wish I could be that good every day.

Now take care.

Just finished up kickin' with Mike (a neighborhood kid who likes footbag). He's a beginner but he likes to hit clippers and butterflies. He's nice to kick with.

Today was another drilling-kinda day. Uh, same stuff as usuall (flipside farlegover, pdx. mirage, pdx. illusion-blah-blah-blah). Practiced a little with butterflies. I have yet to get the flow of them, but it'll come. Pixie Legover both sides today (eh, nothin' too new). Fooled around with toe flicks when my legs got tired. Like I said, just another drilling-kinda day.

Earlier me and dan went around tryin' to find some good scenery for my 3rd video 8O *gasp*, yes my 3rd video. Anyways found some cool scenery...but I'm not gonna say anything 'cause you'll have to wait till the video is out .

Anyways it was a good day :D Anyways, I'm gonna go shoot some pool.

3 day session-make up-

Monday: Just drilled like I've been doing. Hit a cool little drill that'll help my clippers; 3 ss clippers > ss pickup or mirage. Hit that bothsides. Tomorrow plan on doing a morning session with Mike.

3-Day Session Make Up-

Tuesday: Today's sesh was kinda so-so :( More drilling and such. Wasn't playing too well...but it's okay, as long as I play, I'm content. Epsecially when I drill because then I know things will come more natural and easier.

SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW! GOD DAMNIT!!!!   :!:
