Had a session on friday with Tom Mosher and another session today.
The session on friday was from around 7 - 11:30 pm and was a lot of fun. It was nice to play with someone else again. There was a lot of titless shred which I dont usually do. When I hit two's I usually try just drill but Tom wanted to play games where we spelling out 'footbag' every time we messed up. I lost the two games we played. When it got dark we went back to my place and shredded some more. Got some footage that I might release.
Tom is so postive for footbag and footbag is positive for tom. He will be one of the world's best players some day!
The session I had today was cut short by a lack of water. I only brought one bottle and it was too hot outside. I got to play on a tennis court which was nice. I did some more titless shredding and didnt work on anything in particular. I did work a little on spinning whirl and gyro whirl's but then gave up unable to hit either on my flipside. The session was short and I really need new music. Now that the session is over I am left with notion that I am no good at footbag. Sometime footbag seems like so much fun and even easy. Other days it seems like I suck. This is one of those days. My strings are short and boptastic. I need to fix everything about my game.

Had another session last night. From around 7:30-9:30. By the end it was so dark I couldnt really see the bag.
I started out on the tennis courts but soon it was full of tennis players and this guy came up and asked to use the court. I made a big fuss but then left anyways because he was there with his wife and son.
So I moved to a basketball court nearby instead.
I was shredding to a new shred cd I made right before leaving the house, and the new music was a nice change. I played really hard the last 20 minutes or so thinking each song was the last one on the cd.
When I finally got hom I couldnt find my best bag. I got a drive back to the courts and did actually find my bag where I was playing. I guess it was so dark then when I dropped it into my bag it fell out and I didnt notice. It would have sucked so much to lose that bag !
My game was boptastic as usual but hopefully I am getting better. Who really knows. I am just gonna keep playing and see what happens.
Things that I actually remember from the session:
4 spinning clippers and 3 spinning osis in a run, each time switching sides
atomic muted clipper > paradox drifter
ducking xbd rake bsos
scorpian's tale on my third attempt (my second time ever, although I havnt tried it since hitting it about 8 months ago, the dexes where as deep as humanly possible, just slightly below the knee, which was surprising)
nothing else really stands out in my mind

Played with Chad and Tom on Wednesdau. Wasn't very happy with the way I was playing. I kept dropping on flip paradox whirls and flip spinning. Don't really have much more to say about what I hit cause I hit nothing.
I also played for too long because on Wednesday my achilles tendon really hurt, even when I was just walking. Because of that I didn't play at all last night and don't plan to play today. I will start up again on saturday. I plan to drill over and over and o...
Things I will work on:
spinning!
stepping!
atomic!
quantum!
drifters!
dlos!
whirls!
double downs!
In exciting news I now own my first car. Its a 1990 honda accord with 267000 km
But it serves my purposes well and was cheap, as was the insurance for it. It will let me get back and forth to work in the fall and maybe make my winter semester at school a bit easier.
I am not good at footbag now but I plan to practice and do it consistanly and smartly. I have a dream to be able to hit strings that are both technical and have style. I know what moves I want to hit, now I just need to get them consistant and make them efficient.

Sessioned on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday was my first session after taking 4 days off. It used to be be taking 4 days off was nothing and I was lucky to play once a week but now 4 days seems like a long time. The session started well and decided to really work on double leg overs, esp set from clipper. I hit them into and out of a lot of different moves. My flipside is far behind my strong.
I also worked a bit on my paradox dlo's. It was a short fun session, but then I had to leave to see the gf. Played maybe 1 hour.
Tuesday sucked. I think I am now able to tell within the first five minutes of a session if I am gonna suck or not. Or maybe it is deciding that I am gonna suck that make it a bad session, who really knows. I wanted to work on eggbeaters this session but did so for all of 10 minutes. Only hit one on my flipside. Its been months since I did eggbeaters, and I have no idea why. They are much less smooth than I remember. The whole session was kinda of a downer. I couldnt string anything. Like whirl >butter rpt was impossible! Which is really sad. I eventually just worked on double down moves. Paradon to hand catch over and over on both sides. Then worked on barfly to hand catch. It got very consistant on my strong side but my flipside is terrible. I ended up finally hitting flip barfly on my flip for the first time to end the session. I really focused on the movement and form to make the trick finally work. Someday I hope both barflies become easy. I played for maybe an hour before I had to leave.
Went downtown to see a girl about an apartment. I thought I had the place and she just wanted to talk before signing everything. Turns out she is considering someone else as well
another girl
who probably has a better chance then I do. I hope I get the place, it seems perfect. If not I will have to go on a mad house hunt which is really gonna suck
I should hear from here in the next few hours. *crosses fingers*
I hope to play tonight for a little while. Peace out modified.

Played yesterday
Before I went out I went up the pullup bar in my house and thought I would give one set for max reps a go. I have not done a pullup in about a week because I have literally no time or am too lazy :p but its about time I start up again. BAM! 17 pullups. Crushing my old record of 14-15 (not sure).
With that under my belt I headed outside. I could tell from my first legover that it would be a nice session. Worked on strings mostly, string that had variety but with an emphasis on stepping. Played for 45 minutes before I had to jet to the gf's for dinner. It was a fun and encouraging session where things seems just seemed to work.
Also found out yesterday that I got the aprtment I wanted downtown
Now I just need to hope there is free parking spot in the building.
This weekend I will try to make a good start on modding my new shoes.
On the list of mods:
Ellis' drilling mod
Removing the canvas from the outsides, insides, and toes
Cutting off the the toe box
Doing my broka variation
Then sewing everything back up to make it look stock (will have to make a trip to fabric land I bet).
I don't know if I will be able to get all the done on saturday. I will have a few free hours during the day, but at noon I have a guitar lesson, and that day my gf is writing her mcat, so is soon as she is done that I am sure she will went to go out and blow off some steam. Should be a good day. I am excited!

Nice to see some things going your way, Jon. You inspired me to start doing some pullups this week. I'm nowhere near a set of 17, but I have been managing 50+ in the last few days. I want my whole body to be (relatively) healthy and strong by the time my ankle heals up.
Congrats on the apartment, and have fun cutting up your new shoes.

Another day another blog post ...
First off, thanks Colin! I always appreciate posts in my blog. Nice work on the pullups. Here is a site with some good info relating to them:
http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do? ... dy_100back
Hope your ankle is all better soon.
So yesterday I got to play for 1:15 mins! Had some good music and a nice cool day to go along with it. It was a really fun session. I was hitting lots of stuff midstring: matador, both sides dlo's, paradons, barflys, datw, p whirls everywhere, spins both sides (although my zooming was crap), tomahawk, sym mirage of all kinds, drifters, and lots of stepping. I am really trying to work on variety and string length. It is just so much more interesting to play around with different moves and I think it looks way cooler. I think it also makes the sessions less stressful because if something is not working too well one day I can just work on other stuff.
Usually I try to school a concept or drill but these solo shred sessions are much more fun. I also did some work on p torques bs, blurry whirl bs, and had a run with mobius and spinning whirl.
One thing I know I need to work on is doing more swirls mid run, I find it hard to remember them. also I find myself bailing to osis a lot after hard clipper moves, I would like to change that so I bail to butter or drifter.
I plan to shred again tonight! and hopefully every single day untill SUMMER'S End SHRED!!!!
edit: WOOT ! Got a parking spot in the new building

Two sessions to report on
Last night I slipped out of work early
around 2 pm and got home around 3:15 ish. I spent about two hours modding my left shoe and made it oh so ugly trying the the drilling mod
but I guess function over fashion. I want to play at least a bit everyday for the next little while so I put some shoes on and played for 30 minutes insides (outside was all rainy and crappy). Just did simply stuff, nothing really standsout in my memory except for the fact that playing outside is much more fun. After the sort session I head over to the gf's.
Jump to this morning at 7:15. I wake up early because today is the day that Laura writes her MCAT! She was so nervous and I was very nervous for her, but tried to keep her postive. I drove her to the university where the test was being held and sat with her till it was time for her to go in around 8 ish. I wished her luck and in she went.
GOOD LUCK !!!
So after that I thought about driving home and going to bed but thought nah I should do stuff. Went to McDonalds and got a hashbrown and hot chocolate, yum, then headed to sears across the street to check out super saturday. That was a bust :p. So I headed home. I thought about starting the modding again but I want to play footbag everyday! and didnt know if I would have time later in the day. I also remembered the fact that Johnny sometimes does early morning sessions, and with that in mind I decided to get off my ass and go shred.
(9:30 am)
I bike to the near by tennis courts with my boombox and was delighted to find the courts empty
I warmed up by doing kicks while walking around the courts, forwards and backwards, and by doing spinning outside kicks. I stretched a bit and then went into the typical 2's. A little while later a mom came to the courts with her two kids and both kids really seemed intereted in what I was doing. They played tennis for a while while I sessioned and at the end the mom came up and taked to me with her littlest one standing right next to her, the little boy who was probably 5 or so had been watching me the entire time and not playing tennis. She asked if I was practicing for a competiton and I explained about worlds and stuff. She seemed interest and complimented me. (Why is it that mom's are always the ones that say nice things about footbag to me?)
My early morning session was a lot of fun. While the people next to me played tennis I worked on non-dexing strings with stuff like diving, ducking, spinning, gyro, weaving, and all that stuff ending on osis as well as clippers. I also hit torque > far xbd rake because I remembered Sam hitting it in the latest video I had watch this morning.
Right after the family left I decided to try some different stuff. I rememered Nate posting that he had hit rubberman so I thought I would give it a go, I havn't tried it in weeks. I tried each link of the drill once and then walked away for 10 seconds. I walked back, picked up the bag, and RUBBERMAN!!! It was soo perfect and controlled. I was in disbelief. After all this time I finally hit it. After walking off the success for 30 second I went back to shred
Don't remember much else really. Did the p whirl > ss butter [repeat] drill for a while. Tried both blurry drifter and gyro dlo but couldnt hit either.
Just as my CD was ending my damn shoe lace snapped on my left food. That is like the 4th lace in three weeks. After that my session was pretty much over but not before I hit torque > dlo on one side and then then torque > barfly on the other. I sealed the session with 54 infinities on my second try. The whole session lasted about an hour and a half. Then I came home and wrote this, but now I need to practice guitar because my lesson is in 1 hour!
I LOVE FOOTBAG!!!

Had a nice session yesterday after work.
Met up with Aaron, Owen, and Jeff (I think that was your name
I apologize if I am wrong) in Waterloo Park for an evening session.
I got to the park around 5. Parked the car and met up with Owen. We walked to the shred spot, which turned out to be a really sweet little stage in the middle of the park and got down to some shred.
All the waterloo guys are really good. Owen has great form and I really like his variety and trick selection. Jeff had some nice links and looks to have a strong foundation. Aaron has some big ass moves and some nice spinning links. It seems like the whole ontario scene is blowing up.
This was my first session in three days (I know I said I was gonna play ever day but stuff came up
) and my level of play was so so. I know I can play better but at least I wasnt playing well below my normal level.
I found out that ever one can now hit blurry whirl so I think I will try and work on those a bit more to keep up. Owen had them really nice mid string and aaron was hitting them too.
Playing with people was a nice change from the solo sessions I have been having but reminds me what I really want to work on: flip spinning, string length, and variety. I plan to play later tonight and will really focus on drilling in order to be ready for sunday (Summer's End Shred).
In other news I won an auction for size 7.5 g-units off of ebay. I finished modding my new all green lavers which are size 8.5 (but are still too big!!!). Now that I am getting the gunits I dont even know when I will start using the green shoes. I have too many shoes now, if that is even possible.
Also, since I shredded for so long yesterday I was late getting back to guelph and later in the night ended up getting into a great big fight with the gf. Woman are so hard to please, I do everything for her and treat her like royalty. Maybe that in itself is a problem. I dont really know ... Ia am really confused.
At this point all I do know is that I wanna to get good at footbag even though I don't know why though any more and I want to do really well on my LSAT in October.
I never seem to have time to do everything I want. I dont get home from work till like 5:30 and then I want to have time to exercise, play footbag, and see the gf. But I have not been able to do all these things with the time I have. (Why can't the sun stay up till midnight so I can session outside at 10 pm
) And now that my LSAT course has started I will have even less time because I have 6-7 hours of class a week and 10 hours of work to do for the class.
Life is confusing at this point and I don't know what to focus on. I need some time off from everything to just relax and try to decide what my real priorites are. I think I already know the answer but I just really want the time off
At least I have footbag to keep me sane. I will continue to practice because I want to get better. My goal is to be third best in Ontario and right now I can think of four other players that are probably better than me (besides Jorden and Johnny who are number 1 & 2). I know footbag is not about competing with other people but more of a personal endevour but it is still a goal I am working towards and goals are important. If I want to achieve my goals I will just have to work harder and smarter!
/end rant

Woman are so hard to please, I do everything for her and treat her like royalty. Maybe that in itself is a problem. I dont really know ... Ia am really confused.
At this point all I do know is that I wanna to get good at footbag even though I don't know why though any more and I want to do really well on my LSAT in October.
I never seem to have time to do everything I want. I dont get home from work till like 5:30 and then I want to have time to exercise, play footbag, and see the gf. But I have not been able to do all these things with the time I have. (Why can't the sun stay up till midnight so I can session outside at 10 pm
Life is confusing at this point and I don't know what to focus on. I need some time off from everything to just relax and try to decide what my real priorites are. I think I already know the answer but I just really want the time off
/end rant

Session yesterday
To keep this one point short: I hate asshole tennis players.
I had yet another argument with people on the tennis court. This time 4 people who thought I should get off the court because they had tennis racks and I didnt. I tried reasoning with them, I tried being nice, I ended up yelling at them and trying to explain I had just as much right to be there as they did and why the tennis court material was better on my knees then some strip of pavement somewhere. The one dick had the nerve to say "if you can get an engineer to show me there is a difference between this ashvault and that ashvault ..." Well FU buddy! Look at the frigging court, do you need a rocket scientiest to tell you what would be obvious to 2 year old. Gawd I hate them! In the end I ended up moving. I REALLY REALLY HATE THEM!! I AM STILL SOO MAD IT!!! I can't even think about it anym....
gah! Anyways the session was ok even though I was pissed off for most of it.
I worked on sidewalks, ripwalks, spinning (with a focus on flip), and pdx whirls (hit 4 conseq my new record). The session was probably around 2 hours in length. I am gonna play again tonight after my soccer game. I am excited about playing with the waterloo crew again on friday.
I can't wait for Summer's End Shred this sunday in Toronto.

Played yesterday
8:50 - 10 pm
Played at the athletic center on campus late in the evening. I would have played outside like I normally do but I got home late because of a soccer game (btw footbag > soccer).
Worked on strings with variety, with a focus on stepping and spinning. Also hit spinning osis > dyno (bs). Playing with the waterloo people tonight. Will post about it tomorrow.

Two sessions.
Played yesterday in Waterloo with Owen. It was an awesome session. Lots of cool links were hit and I had a great time. Owen reminded me that taking a break in the middle of a session just to chill and talk is just as good as the shredding. His style is great and he is a really nice guy. Plus he hit ripped warrior and alpine legbeater !!!
Played today for 30 minutes inside cause it was raining outside. Just did mostly titless stuff but my legover and pickups felt smooth and easy, which is a great way to prepare for the big jam in toronto tomorrow. I can't wait, its gonna be soooo sweet!
