Popping Knees

Post by Bander87 »

This topic might be somewhat to post right now because I am leaving to go camping soon, but anyways...

I don't know if this is normal or not, but if I sit down on a chair and bring my legs all the way up so their straight, I get a popping sound in my knee. It seems like its trying to "disconnect itself" or something.

I looked up some stuff online and found out about ACL. Anyone know anything about this?

Knees popping can be numerous things, but connecting that and ACL doesn't really match. ACL is just a ligament that stabalizes the bones above and below your knee from sliding forward/backwards. Sometimes if you rip a piece of ligament, it might be somewhere in your knee which can make cracking/popping noises or make your knee lock up because it is wedged into places where it shouldn't be. If you don't feel any pain or anything limited, most likely it is either a ligament sliding over a bony prominence, or some form of crepitus (some sort of crackly noise when you squat because the 2 surfaces aren't smooth).

ACL tears are usually commonly injurered with some sort of force that is from behind the knee, or quick pivot/turning movements. If it were some sort of tear, you would have gotten some swelling around the knee area. Also signs of instability/weakness would be the after effects of it.

I've got a pretty bad case of crepitus in my knees. I've abused them a bit and the noises it makes isn't a good sign. So what do you feel when you do things that make it pop ?

Well, theres never any pain. I can't remember a time that it popped with me doing it on purpose. If I flex my quad muscles, it seems the knee cap goes with it and "pops" out of place.

Is there anything that can be done to cure crepitus? When I squat down past 90 degrees it sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies.

I didn't want to make another knee topic, but is anyone farmiliar with PFS? I've stopped playing for over 2 weeks and my knees are still messed. I did some research online and found stuff about PFS which is some sort of softening of the knee cartilage, which is how I described it acuatly before I did the research. Yes, I should see a docter soon.
