This'll be the 4th Funtastik for me. I should come up with a routine this time around.

I can't wait to arrive at the hotel, it's the best lodging for a footbag event ever. The downstairs conference rooms, the tennis courts, the deck by the pool... there has been some epic shred at that place.

To shred in front of the crowds. To play foursquare with Goldberg. To live off the Waffle House and that other diner next to the hotel. To party all weekend long. FUNTASTIKS! I can't believe it's in less than 20 days!

I forgot about all those great times, it's been too long for me. After talkin to Zach & Nathan, I tilted my decision and I've requested time off of work. I'm going to drive up with Caleb and crash whereever I can. And of course use whatever money is left on some footbags and Waffle House. I am uberly excited to see all of you !

Shawn,

Some useful information for you from someone who has been to Funtastiks several times:

The campsite is, well, its not really the best kind of campsite. Its not far from the highway, and you can hear trucks going by all night long. They have alot of overhead security lights on ALL NIGHT LONG, so its never nice and dark. The practical upshot of that, at least, is that when its three in the morning and you have to take a piss you don't need a flashlight.

Some more info about the campsite: For the past several years, they've had a large pile of wood to put on the fire, but its mostly been left-overs from construction (which means that you shouldn't use it to cook over, as its either pressure-treated or painted). However, that pile has gradually been dwindling, and last summer was almost totally gone. By now there is nothing left, and I don't know if they've bothered to replace it. Were I to stay at the campground this year, I would figure on having to buy some firewood myself.

The campground is very close to the host hotel, almost but not quite walking distance. Well, you could walk it, but it might be a twenty minute walk or more. Maybe less. Anyway, the campground and hotel are both close to a decent selection of restaurants. Even better, the campground is just two blocks from a liquor store. However, the liquor store is kind of like a whole-saler, and they only sell beer by the case.

The hotel, on the other hand, has no down-side. Its a sweet place to stay for a footbag tournament. They have a big outdoor deck by the pool which is pretty good to shred on, and for the past couple of years they've turned on some nice bright overhead halogen lamps so we can play after dark. Furthermore, they have indoor conference rooms that are also good to shred in if the weather is not good. They've got an outdoor pool and hot tub, and an indoor pool too. The rooms are not luxurious, but they are really large, with more extra space in them than any other hotel I can remember, so squeezing extra people into the room is easy.

Here is what I'm gonna do: I'm going to book a room at the hotel and a spot at the campsite. I'm going to check the weather forecast about three days before the event, and if the weather looks good, I cancel the hotel room and plan on roughing it. If the weather forecast is bad, I call the campground and cancel my spot there. In either case, you don't lose any money as long as you cancel one or two days in advance.

In general, I don't get to camp-out as often as I'd like to, and I love the idea of camping out at footbag tournaments, and this is the only one I ever get to do that at. In the past, we've had some good times at the campground, especially when Bob Riefer and Matt Cross both stayed there and brought their guitars. However, it's not a nice campground, but it is a VERY NICE hotel (so far as footbag is concerned), so even some people who might consider camping-out have, over the last couple years, tended towards the hotel instead, thus the campground scene hasn't been as much fun lately.

Well, I've already told you how I intend to handle things. See ya.

Oh, yeah, just reread your post: there is a big ole' roadhouse style bar just a couple blocks walk from the campground, with typical style bar food, and you can buy beer to go by the sixpack there. Gentlemen's clubs? Not that I know of... There is a bowling alley near the campground and hotel. I've always kind of wanted to give that a go...

Well doesnt sound like much of a night life but with all the footbag goin on even if there was im sure i wouldnt notice

My decision isnt just mine its gonna be with the group im with, Considering the amount of driving im gonna do i at least want a hotel for the first day and possibly if the weather is nice we will join you at the camp sunday night for some campfire relaxation/drinking.

It would be kind of nice to have a crazy night of drinking swiming/jacuzi followed by a peacefull night around a campfire, everything has been happening pretty fast so i still need to figure out whos going and what everybody wants to do

Thanks for the overview it was very informative

this campground sounds like its one that will be pretty empty and one that wont have people yelling at us if we get rowdy so if thats the case that may be worth doing for a night, and saving a couple bucks at the same time is always good too
