Julian's Footblog

Post by Torn »

Because I'm particularly bored and it's raining, so I can't go shredding, I decided to start my own footblog...

[Edit]: Here also some information just about me...I'm 18 years old, still goin to school (I think it would be highschool in the Usa or wherever else..anyway we call it Kantonsschule what would mean something like cantonal school..it's just the school u get general qualification for university entrance)...
I'm shredding for about 3-4 months now and I'm really addicted to footbag ...I am a member of the "Madbags"...the footbag club in heerbrugg and of course anyone who will visit our beatiful tiny country somewhen could E-mail me for a shred (to travel from on side of switzerland to the other only takes about 4-4,5 hours by car so it wouldn't be such a big journey )
I play the guitar for about 3 years now and I really like it but I haven't found a band yet (I'm actually not trying that hard though I'd really like to play in a band )
Most of my friends are (if at all) just circle kickers and mostly they don't want to play footbag with me...I already recruted a lot of kids for footbag (some bought real footbags and two of them bought new shoes which are better for footbagging )...

Well I will just begin with all the tricks I already executed and which I still need to learn :

24.7.05:

Toe Stall : normal and flipside without problems about 100 alternating and same side

Outside Stall: normal and flipside a few times but I barely use it because I don't think that this move looks stylish at all and dragon tricks are not my thing either...

Inside Stall : Normal very well but my flipside is killing me I have to learn bending my foot a bit more...but I'm slowly getting better

Clipper Stall: Normal quite good already and flipside very good considering the fact that my flipside inside stalls are still quite poor...

Butterfly : Normal good and to my great surprise flipside very good

Osis : Normal still a lot of problems but flipside not bad

Pixie : Normal and flipside quite good but still working on it

Fairy : A lot of problems on both sides but I'm getting better every day

Reverse Mirage : I never get my foot under the bag though the dex is nice already on both sides, flipside a bit better

Mirage : Comes and goes...normally quite good on normal side and acceptable on flipside

ATW: Out to in dex : Both flipside and normal quite good but still working on 'em
In to out dex : Flipside weak but normal good

Double ATW : Out to in dex: No chance with flipside but normal side I almost executed it once
In to out dex: Flipside almost and Normal also almost done it

Whirl : Flipside a bit better than normal but on either side I can't get my foot under the bag after the dex

Reverse Whirl : Executed it once with normal side but flipside not really

Ducking Clipper : Executed it once or twice but still a lot of problems because my clippers are still far too weak

Drifter : Flipside better than normal side but on either side I executed it a few times very smoothly

A few unusual surface stalls like heel stall on normal side, neck stall, stalling the bag on my chest and on my back, on my knee (both sides)...

I am making a lot of progress and I'm footbaggin' for about 2 months and a half now...Before I was a simple circle kicker and the only tricks I could do were inside kick and toe stall...So I can definitely say that theres a lot of improvement in my game after that little time (ok I spent most of the days shredding, about 3-4 hours per day )...Any suggestions what to learn etc. are very welcome of course

keep on shredding

greetings Julian

24.7. 2005 :

When it finally stopped raining I went outside to shred a bit :

Almost hit my first whirl (both normal and flipside) ...

And I finally got to the point where my flipside inside is catching up with the normal inside stall...

Also hit a few Paradox Mirages and Paradox Pickups (Both normal and flipside)...

Plus I started hitting 2-add (mixed with a few 3 add) strings, it is so great to make so much progress at one day...I LOVE THIS AWESOME SPORT...

greetings Julian

25.7.05 : Nothing at all ...first I went swimming and then when I got home it was raining like hell...No shred at all :(

26.7.05 : Was at the Technorama so couldn't shred until I came home (about 6 p.m.)...
Not much happened only about 10 mirages alternating and almost whirl (both sides) but still can't get my damn foot under the bag and my clippers are not getting better...very poor session and I was far too tired too...Tomorrow will be a good day for shredding so I'll try to hit a whirl then...

27.7.05 : Nice weather almost a bit too hot but after a few days raining nothing could stop me from shredding real hard...

New tricks : Flying Hopover ..never knew that this trick is so easy...hit it a few times on normal side but never tried it before :D

Fairy : still very poor on both sides but at least I can say that they are Fairies

Almost hit Dlo and Eggbeater just couldn't get my foot under the bag :x

Double Around the world (in) with strong foot almost but still I have problems with getting the foot under the bag

Improvements : Mirages are getting much better (bsos )

my flipside inside stall is now nearly as good as my normal inside (thus my flipside clippers are getting better too)

A few drifters with flipside

A few reverse Whirls with both sides but no Whirls at all, this trick is driving me crazy ...

All in all not as much progress as I hoped it would be after a real session but still I learned one new trick and improved the others....

31.7. 05 :

Didn't shred for three (!!!! :? :x) days because I went to an open air...

But today I had a nice session nothing new but my insides are getting a lot better and so do my clippers...

Hit a few ducking clippers and a diving clipper...

Pickup (bsos) and a few legovers (bsos) :D

Still no whirls for me but soon very soon I will hit it

12.8.05 : After not having had a good shred session for quite a while (big exam coming up and the weather seems to hate footbag) I shredded today like crazy and finally :

WHIRL (flipside only) ...After hundreds of drops I executed a nice whirl :D :D :D ...Yeeeeeeehaw

Fairy (both sides) is really getting better I almost hit a fairy clipper

Drifter (both sides) my flipside is quite good and I can hit it very smoothly but on my normal side I still got a few problems getting the bag straight up after the dex

Paradox Legover (does that exist ?) anyway I hit it a lot of times cool trick

2-3 add strings are getting a lot better and longer

A very good session and now I have to learn but I guess I will go out for another session because the weather is just lovely...

13.8. 05 : Nice weather all day long so I shredded for about 3-4 hours...

My Clippers are slowly getting really good, I can almost set the bag anywhere I want him with my flipside but on normal side it always comes in front of me instead of flying straight up but I'll fix that soon

My whirls are getting better but still I only get about 2 out of ten and only on flipside...Also hit clipper>ss Whirl

I hit Paradox Legover (or is that Far Legover ?) Bsos

and Butterfly Bsos :D

A few 2 Add strings mixed with 3 add tricks like always (Like Legover>Atw>Clipper>Clipper>osis>legover>Atw>Pixie>Pixie>Mirage>mirage> butterfly> drop ...

A bunch of osises but only on my flipside

12 clippers alternating

also quite new: Weaving Clipper (toe set) and a few Diving clippers (toe set too)

Tried symposium stuff but didn't really execute anything...

Also begain learning stepping set

All in all a very long and good session and my next goal is to ameliorate my clippers to perfection and learn stepping set, pixie set and fairy set ...

14.8. 05 : It was raining most of the time but in the evening I could go for a shred...

But because I shredded so damn hard the day before I felt damn drained and it was one of the most disappointing sessions I've ever had...

Nothing worked...my clippers were worse than ever and I got legover bsos only after the 7th attempt...No whirls at all and paradox stuff didn't work either...

All in all I was so enervated in the end that I was quite happy to return to my physics (big exam comin' up) and I decided to rest for a few days a bit because I never want to have such a bad session again  and the weather is so bad these days that I won't be able to have a nice session for quite a while anyway ...

luckily this friday I'll have a workout at our footbag club and I'm sure to be at best health then

16.8.05: After having had the first of two oral examinations I have to attend this week I was very keen to shred my legs off...it didn't go that bad but still I just had to shred (I will never ever have classes of Biology nor Physics nor Chemistry nor Economics nor Geography again :D:D:D)

It was however one of the best sessions I've ever had...everything seemed to work and I learned a lot during those few hours...

New Tricks:

- Spinning zulu osis (flipside) : I've never ever hit anything like this before but today I was capable of doing every trick I could think of and I got it at the third attempt (afterwords I didn't hit it anymore for dozens of tries but nevermind it always was damn close)... My first 4 Add Trick and I love it

[Edit] : 5 add I see ...well even to the better :D...

- [Edit] : Hopping Swirl (flipside) : also a trick I've never hit before...I can't hit a swirl at all but hopping..it's quite different...I was experimenting with symposium/ hopping stuff (and also with whirling swirl :D) and it just happened...I couldn't believe my eyes when the bag came straight up after the dex...this is such a cool move I really want to learn all swirls with both feet...

- Sole stall (strong side) : I tried it before but never executed it and when my mother just wanted to see me shred a bit I was like : "look this move is kinda cool if I can hit it"...worked on the First attempt :D

Basic Drilling Advancement:

- My flipside inside stalls are getting better and better...still not perfect yet but a lot better than 1-2 weeks ago

- Flipside Atw's are getting better too

- Stepping Set : I hit a very clean stepping toe delay once (flipside)...can't wait till my stepping is perfect :D

- Clipper : I'm slowly getting to the point where I can control my clippers on both sides and set them where I want :D..still I need practice

- Pixie got better, too...

- Whirl (flipside) is getting a lot better I can hit it like 5 of 10 times now ...but I drop the bag from my hand, toe whirls and clipper>whirl is still very difficult and I can barely hit them at all...

- Butterflies are getting better too

All in all I shredded long and hard but it was really worth it and never before I was so keen to shred the next day like crazy again...learned a lot of new stuff and now I am perfectly happy :D

Props for the spinning zulu osis - that is a 5 add trick and really tough to duck /dive after the spin - I never got it - but I will try today I guess .

Paradox legover doesn't exist - do not ask me why but it is called far legover

Nice blog !

Thx for all the compliments...but I'm still quite far away of adding the spinning zulu osis to a string...

my basics are sometimes just reminding me of drilling them when I try to do good strings with lots of 3 add tricks :D

17.8.05 : Best conditions and good mood so today it was time for Footbag

No new tricks because I dedicated the session to my basics which I want to perfect during the next few weeks...

But I hit a few [Edit] :hopping swirls and my whirls are getting a lot better I also started learning whirl with my strong side and I almost hit it once so I'm confident to hit it very soon (tomorrow perhaps  )

A few ducking moves and most of the time :

Drilling clippers like crazy...A few stepping attempts with my strong side clipper (what means the stepping leg is the flipside with which I still got a lot of problems doing clean dexes (especially the stepping))...

but yeah it was a long and nice session and I had fun...

I just love this sport so much, I'm addicted to it like I haven't ever been to any other sport...it's just GREAT

Thank you for enlightening me about symposium swirl etc...

and thx for your props :D

Today I had a very long session : (18.8.05)

- hit some far legovers

- almost hit whirl with the strong side

- my pixie set got a lot better and my fairies are improving too..still they aren't real sets because I can barely add any trick after the "set"...but I'm on the way on adding them to my trick arsenal

- Drilled my basics like crazy and my flipside inside got a lot better...and so did my clippers (both sides)...

It was quite funny because mostly when I shred there are some kids from the neighbourhood who come and watch me play (most of them don't want to try themselves because of their "I have no idea about such stuff" attitude)...
But today one kid wanted to try it and then all the others were like "now let me try"...etc. etc...when I realized that there were about 5 or 6 of them arguing who would be first to try it, I just proposed to play "four square"...

I explained them the concept and very soon there were about 7 people (me included 8 ) playing four square :D...

Then there were suddenly about 13 kids (+1 girl :D) who really wanted to play four square so we just split up and then we were 2 groups playing four square...One group with the older ones and one with the younger...It was a hell lot of fun...They really got very enthusiastic and did their best not to drop the bag and some were very good at it...

And just seeing so many teenagers playing four square was worth not drilling my basics like I mostly do :D

In the end I was circle kicking with about two of them and I never ever played that well...Everything seemed to work without any effort and my strings became longer and sicker :D

All in all I didn't learn any "new" moves but my basics really improved and I had lots of fun playing four square...

One good day for footbag [/quote]

Thx a lot for your encouragement Flavio & Vim :)

My lavers are still looking quite new...well they are quite new but nevertheless I once washed them but it didn't make any difference...They weren't cleaner than before :D So it's just a matter of time until they look as dirty as those from all the others

I'm really thinking of painting them somehow...I got a sister which is very gifted at drawing and that would be damn cool if she could "graffiti" my shoes...But I don't know if that colour smutted or not ...Well we'll see :D

Keep on shredding

19.8. 05:

I had to learn all day long but we had a very nice session at our footbag club place (don't know how to say this...btw which word do you use for a fixed time you practise ? Training ?)

Because I'm the only one from our club who knows the names of the tricks it was a very funny session...Mate of mine hit some crazy stuff...hopping whirl and whirling swirl plus a lot of swirls and torque and and and :D

I almost hit Whirling Swirl once

And almost Dlo from clipper set

Hit some Butterfly Bsos'es and a Clip>whirl...

My basics are getting so much better it's amazing and I JUST LOVE THIS SPORT :D

Made experiences with ducking and diving etc...and tried some spinning moves but I didn't really hit anything worth mentioning :D

Hit Stepping on both sides once...well I still have to learn it to set the bag higher for following tricks but I hit it quite smoothly...

Footbag rulez :D

22.8.05: It is raining like hell for days now but nothing can keep me from shredding :D

Today I had a nice session :

- hit Pdx mirage

- drilled my basics like always and my clippers and inside stalls are getting very good now but still I can't always set my clippers straight up without concentrating like shit  ...

- Hit some ducking / diving / weaving / zulu stuff...Was just practising that stuff for about 20 mins only ducking etc. :D...it was fun though I didn't hit anything special

- Drilled my fairy and pixie Set...hit one truly perfect pixie but still I can't add anything after the dex so my set skills are still very low...nevermind, it was fun

- Also had some nice strings with butterflies involved

- Tried a few steppings but never really hit one...but as long as my clippers aren't nearly perfect I don't want to focus that much on stepping

- my heel stalls are getting really good too...I was quite surprised how easy heel actually is once you know the motion

- one perfect osis...never better but still my osises are crap...Especially my strong foot sucks at osises...

All in all a funny session but nothing very special...still I just had a great time and I'm very keen to shred like hell from now on till infinity :D
