Starting Net

Recently me and a friend have become interested in net. I've been freestyling for a few years and he's been kicking just as long.
I was wondering what would be some good steps to start playing net?

well i would go buy a cheap badmington net, and a hard hackysack

Wear better shoes than your rod lavers. They are too cut up probably for the abuse of net.

You can get a cheap pair of running shoes or just buy the Brooks Beasts.

if need be hang a rope off the ground so that is about 5' in the air. then when you have shoes and a bag, take turns tossing the bag over to each other, and just try kicking the bag back over the net. Then work on tossing the bag from the server line. Then get used to serving with your feet.

my old net buddy jason was teaching me the art of footbag net (then he disappeared!) We always started out by having a net hack circle. Try to make good contact with the bag on all surfaces and kick it high to yourself or a partner, it works better with one.

Just practice setting the bag up to each other and play some old school hack with a net bag, the practice comes in handy a lot

I refinately recommend you getting a net footbag. You can get one (a good one) from Emmanuel Bouchard through his site at www.footbagnet.com

You can make a net set on your own or buy a professional from www.footbagnet.com

As for shoes, try to find running shoes with flat outsides and insides.

A good practise drill is power-kicking. It's basically a 2 or 3 person circle. On 2 players, just try to set the bag to your partner as nice and smooth as you can. On 3 players, make one of the players to be in a hot-spot so that person gets 50% of the contacts. Rotate your positions every once in a while.

Footbag net is so much fun once you get the hang of it.

A really fun practice is to get a partner and kick your cordley bag at a wall very, very hard using inside, outside, and toe kicks with both legs, after u knock it off the wall move aside and let the other player kick it.

This might not be the best drill for getting good at net but it's damned fun

Eventually you won't need to kick it more than once to get control of it and bounce it hard off the wall.

Thats so cool. I am getting back into net now too, since i found about 6-8 people here in Santa Cruz who love to play.

Things you need:
-a net bag
-a badmitton net (the sturdier the better)
-flexibility
-preferably a partner, or 3 for maximum fun
-lots of practice with every kicking surface using BOTH legs[/i]
