New Balance 890

Post by Splint »

Anyone try these? I tried on a pair today and I'm likely to buy them, but I thought I'd see if anyone else had given them a go yet. Here's a pic.

They look ready to go right out of the box. The toe looks a tiny bit smaller than the CT300's and 520's, but it's mesh which is really nice. The instep seems to bulk out a little bit, but that's curable. Otherwise it doesn't look like the instep needs any shoe gooing or anything.

I believe that tread pattern will cause unwanted movement during play. It's really hard to stand in place with a shoe designed to go forward aggressively. This is not a problem once the shoe is worn down, but will definately be hard on the knees while breaking in the shoe.

The Dick's near me has them on sale for $69.99 but not in the Black and the alternative color looks like crap compared to the Black ones.

I came home and I noticed my brother bought these shoes. The toe seems really good. You can feel the bag like with prestos. The insides look like they'd work well too after modding and trimming the insole. They dont' really work for me because I have wide feet that bulge over the sole, but I don't think people with regular feet will have this problem. Cameron was right about the tread pattern, feels a little wabbly, but it shouldn't take long to wear down. These are definately worth checking out.

Cal just got a pair of these shoes, It seems like with modding they could be pretty good. They do feel quite heavy though. I will post again once I've played in them.
