Jeremy Mirken's Footbag Blog
Jeremy, where you at?
When we both started posting on Modified many years ago, you would post a new move and within a week I would hit that move or vice versa. We progressed at the same rate for a long time. Then you got way better than me. That hurts.
My new house is ill. No shred spot though.

Ted, come sometime during the 6-13 of August... but then you should come up to, like, Stanford, and I will come down there from SF to play with you guys.
Btw, they cut off their internet already until they move. That's probably why he's not responding.
I think Jer did express interest in coming up to Stanford to play, though (hopefully with Stevie and co.), so if anyone's still interested in this, a call would be nice. 303-909-2274

Because it would literally take days to recount everything crazy that happened this weekend in Los Angeles, Ill quickly post some highlights.
Emily, Dat, and I descended to the Los Angeles area to film and dub some vocals for FR2.
Chris Pinkus had such a massive sunburn covering his entire stomach and chest, he nearly refused to be judo thrown
Dat is not so good with time management
He finished his paper at 1150 or so today, and it was due at about 12. He stayed up the entire night, while he was in LA, writing it!
Also, Dat is apparently not meant to find a job as a vocal dubbist
Emily slept every chance she could get. It didnt take more than 3 minutes and a quiet place to knock her out
Chris and I filmed some fun stuff and added to a good scene. I really think that scene will be very entertaining. I guess I am not such a good actor, but I swear, I do try quite hard. Its tough to be "normal" in front of camera.
I can hit like 28 unique 7 -add moves, both sides. Im really good at footbag. I love to watch myself play- I look really cool when I do it.
Bryan Fournier spent the day at Sam's crib, apart from his movie-going time, which was tons of fun. he cracks me up-. He always says these very funny random comments that are just totally unexpected. Dooey decimal system, what?
A little about the wicked 3to 4 hour session we had last night at Sam's pad: shredders: Emily, Dat, Sam, Blackjack, Grom. Everybody hit at least a few things they were proud of. Most notably, Dat hit his first 5 add move
VERY excited for him, we all were.It was PS whirl. And he was super close to it on his flip side too. Blackjack was hitting really stylie runs and combos as always, and some amazing tricks. Things like ps eggbeater on command, after saying "I can't hit that trick," gyro egg, spinning whirl>gyro whirl (bsos?), whirlygig>some phat 5 add>op whirlygig, mobius>gyro mirage so easily, blurriests everywhere flurries like buttermilk biscuits, , oh man so much more that i cant even remember. I was clapping for him the whole frikkin night. Emily hit a lot of nice strings, getting props from all the shredders, and also torque (she's hit it before), some drifters, butt>pdx mirage> repeated 1.5 times, and more yet Im having trouble remembering
There's a lot to tell about Sam's session- he shredder harder than he's ever shredded before in his life possibly. He was hitting long strings from the start of the session, always with stylie links. Symp whirls and barflies both sides, both of which are RARE moves for him to try, let alone hit. Also, he was trying so many 5 adds, something hes always declined to do in the past. And he hit so many! It was awesome, things like pdx torque bsos, blurry whirl bsos, spinning whirl bsos, pixie torque, etc. In general, it was just really great to see him pushing his game so hard because he opened up new avenues of footbag he knows he will continue to expand upon. As for me, I ht a couple of good runs, several prop-worthy runs and some sweet single tricks. nothing to get too excited about though. I did manage to hit my third genesis
. I hit fury>pixie symp whirl, but the second move was a bit sloppy for my taste, so I'll need to hit it again pretty soon. I had one pretty good nemesis attempt but didnt even foot the bag- dunno what happened there. I got close to toe whirling swirl> spinning whirl, didnt hit it. I did hit a whirring rake though, to a small run. Also, stepping grifter to a run, for which I got mad props from Bryan, which was nice! Oooh, also I hit a symp whirling pdx guay, which I got some props for- that one was a bit small for my taste, the magnitude of the trick I mean, but it felt pretty good. i can't really remember any more highlights, but again, the main highlight for sure was Dat hitting his first 5. it was ELECTRIC in there i tell you.
All in all, I had a great time and Im glad i went, although the driving was a pain in my arse.
On a side note, tell me Chris, what WOULD you do to a zebra?

Mirk - Many thanks for the bag! I've been using Genzu's bags almost exclusively at this point so it's nice to have a sweet 32 to whip my ass into shape. Your shred game is looking great from the recent footage I've seen; so explosive and precise - I really like it. Keep that shit up and thanks again for the bag!

Jeremy is the man. His bag of tricks is endless. That one set you were going for at the end was ridiculous. Thanks for hanging out with me and I hope to see you soon.
Amelia, It was great meeting you. Thank you for making my stay in california most pleasant, and I hope to see you soon as well.
Take care everyone and thanks again.

Today I had a really fun skooling session with Czyk, for about 1hr 30 minutes, follwed by about 30 straight minutes of 2-person shred. It was really intense and we didnt catch our breath for that last 30 minutes, which was a cool feeling. She was skooling flip torques and stepping set and she had some very nice attempts at both. I know she hit symp mirage on at least one side, but she prolly wasnt too happy with them because she commented that she thought they were a bit "rakey."
I was skooling stepping set, barfly, and flip dbl down moves in general, including blurriest, barfly, and fusion. I guess the highlight for me was hitting 4 barflies, which I hadnt done in quite a while, nothing to brag about tho. As for my stepping, I was skooling this combo: step clip>step butt>blur> dimwalk>repeat, which I hit on a couple of occasions, followed by a ripwalk and several failed blizzards. I was trying to hit ripwalk> blizzard>parkwalk>repeat after the first 8 moves. Anyway, that was met with partial success, so I was at least happy. After kicking with Nate and seeing him skool me with his shuffle, I feel as if I need to improve mine.
I didnt have any really long strings, but I did have plenty between 10 and 15, which was just fine with me, especially because i was practicing difficult moves, none of the easy stuff today. ERight near the end of the session, as we progressed to true "shred" Emily started to have some longer strings and some unusual (for her) and challenging links. I think her game is really going to improve when she learns/re-learns moves like mirage, pixie, and legover from higher toe and clipper sets.
Overall, I was really happy with the session. OOOH, and Im gunna upload some pics of our newest and coolest shred spot, which just so happens to be way better than any of yours

breaking in a new bag; post a pic tomorrow i think.
session today at day party many good runs, 10 or more shuffle contacts on several occasions, stepping sets felt very good from both sides, spinning pdx dlo and toe drifter rake in a pretty good run, also a super nice superfly after 4 hours of shred-felt good.
really happy but at the same time bleh, body exhausted.
