clarification

i hit shooting butter last night and I was confused on whether it was ss butter or opp butter. both legs dex for the set so that's what led to the confusion. I figured it was same side butter because it went to the pixie side which is where the initial dex takes place, but the last dex of the set is with the atomic and so would the butter be an opp butter than?

sorry if this makes no sense.

if ur talking pixie, then u didn't hit shooting. You hit sailing. I believe it is opposite because the butterfly is opposite of the last leg that dex'ed it. Someone correct me if i'm wrong

I see what you are saying.

I would think of it like you would a nuclear set. If you complete the trick on the same side that you set the trick with it's normal. If you complete the trick on the opposite side you set the trick it's same side...which is wierd if you think about it.

I think the essence of same side is that you completed the next part of the trick (a.k.a. whirl, eggbeater, double down, etc.) with the same leg that last dexed the bag. Like a tapdown is atomic ss butterfly even though the butterfly is completed on the opposite side as your set. And conversly, a legbeater is atomic op butterfly because the butterfly is completed with the opposite leg as the atomic.

shooting op butter (aka shooting butter)
clip>op in>op out>op out>op clip (starts and ends on same clipper

shooting ss butter (aka crispy blurriest)
clip>op in>op out>same out>op clip

note that shooting op butter gets an extra add - ie. a pdx add although most people would agree that both moves are about the same in difficulty and if anything the ss version is harder.

sailing op butter (aka dasign?, or pixie legbeater)
toe>same in>op out>op out>op clip

sailing ss butter (aka pixie tapdown or crispy pixie parradon)
toe>same in>op out>same out>op clip.

See - job's does have a point

basically "op" and "ss" are relative to the component that comes before the the "op/ss" not relative to the initial setting foot.

i have a habit of saying shooting when I meant sailing. to straighten this out I meant sailing. my bad. thanks jeremy for clearing this up.
