Matt's right - they are both nicknames for Vaclav and the language is indeed Czech and Vaska does mean dragonfly

That would be weird, considering 2 Czech presidents have also been called Vasek.

Rofl I once visited the Czech Republic (I really recommend it) and we realized that half the Czechs are called Vaçlav

...

I always thought that it was a joke when I read Vaçlav instead of Vasek or Vaska

anyway just an add...German form is "Wenzel" so it's not such a cool name if you ask me and I understand very well why he doens't want to have such a "mainstream" name

.. I now this sounds like a cliché but I was there and I've never ever seen so many cute women at once

Hmmm Yeah... Vasek isn't like a nickname... it's diminution from his first name Vaclav. Vaska is a nickname.

In Polish all of them sound very similarly: Vaclav is Wacław, Vasek i Wacek and Vaska is Waszka ... Unfortuantely ... sometimes people use the word "wacek" in the meaning = penis...

It's like my name.

My real name is Benjamin, but I go by Ben.

Vasek's real name is Vaclav, but he goes by Vasek.

Or probably more accurately people who are named:

Robert are also called Bob.
Richard are also called Dick.
Stephen are also called Steve.

It's like that. It's not a nickname, but a common alternative to the name.

That would be awesome..I sure like switzerland, it's nice, it's small (quiet not so many problems etc...) and most of my friends live here...

But I am highly attracted to your country and also to the czech republic...I don't really know much about Poland nor about the Czech Republic (with having visited it only once I didn't see that much of it) but ...well...I can't really explain it properly it's just that I fancy going there for more than only 5 days...perhaps move there and stay forever
