Hey, I just started footbagging not to long ago and I can do the "jester", toe kick thing, and an outer kick thing and I'm wondering what else I should practice.

oh and the gear I have is crappy leather walmart shoes (ordering rod lavers now) and a dirtbag foot bag.

could someone help a noob out?

1. Find the players closest to you (through www.footbag.org and this site) and visit them as often as possible, if you're able. Sign up for a footbag.org member account (free) so that people can find you. Find the tournaments closest to you (or the ones that just seem awesomest, if you can afford the distance). This is the most important piece of advice I can give you.

2. Get the right equipment. You're off to a great start with the Lavers. That shows the right attitude, being that you seem to be a novice player. A good start with equipment puts you ahead of the game. Buy a few Mr Sandbags from (www.FreedomFootbags.com), and get a pair of shorts with a high crotch, and short (mid-thigh length) tight legs (not spandex tight, just not basketball shorts style).

If you want, you can also take a look at my stitcher contact list in Bags and Equipment, choose a stitcher, and order a footbag from them. There are many threads in that sub-forum regarding who prefers footbags made by whom.

Keep in mind that your Lavers WILL require some modification (the minimal and suitable-for-a-beginner mods are very easy), so read up on that on this site, and don't be afraid to cut a little thread, canvas, and leather (you can start with just the thread, though

). Just go slow.

3. Read the beginner tutorials on www.footbag.org so that you can begin to understand what we're talking about, as it's completely mystifying to totally inexperienced.

4. Read the threads in this sub-forum that you're in right now concerning what moves a beginner should hit next, there's some good advice in them. Just poke around, you'll find the ones discussing this.

5. Watch as many of the free, amazing freestyle videos available to you through this site, www.footbag.org, www.freedomfootbags.com, www.flipsider.com, www.blurryworld.com, www.hackrifice.com, and others that I'm not remembering right now. I'm sure someone else will post links if they think of something that I forgot.

6. Play a lot, and learn all your tricks from both feet! This is also super important. BOTH SIDES!!!!

I think that would put you off to a good start with freestyle footbag.

Awesome, I'm from Idaho too!!! And I shred with Daryl and Jim all the time. You should totally come shred with us. They live in Nampa, and I live in Boise, but I don't know where Irwin is.

Whatever you do, dude, go to Boise and/or Nampa as much as possible and shred with Pimpske and Daryl; they're Jedi masters in the art of footbag and will help you with your game a lot. Daryl taught me pixie and atomic sets when he was here in May.

Kyle,

First, congratulations on getting into freestyle footbag! It's one of the most rewarding, cool sports out there. You're doing the right thing by getting lavers and a good footbag. Mr. Sandbags are great for beginners, but if you already have a dirtbag, those aren't bad either. They sit on your foot and don't 'roll' as much as Mr. when you're learning inside stalls. I actually still have a problem with Mr. Sandbags rolling sometimes.

If you have perfect form, Mr. Sandbag won't roll, but as we all know beginners usually don't have perfect form, therefore the bag staying on your foot is usually the most important thing when starting out. The way to remove a lot of the roll from Mr. is to apply fabric glue on parts of it, giving the bag more texture. Just make little dots on the bag with the glue and let it dry.

And if you need any help modifying your lavers, feel free to PM me. I have some great tips on how to remove the canvas from inside of the shoe. I modded mine without any cuts to the netting. Good Luck!

he's doing actually quite well, we've been shredding with jim and daryle and sonny, and dillion alot so we have all been improving drastically, but he'll see this post and reply so yeah

my biggest advice to you bro... walk before you run... dont try and be a shredder before you can juggle the bag, i say at least get a solid 50 or so then move onto stalls, thats my opinion and also find a hack circle to join in, anyone will do, us footbaggers are really nice and welcoming people so dont be shy, just jump right in!

also, how many panels is your dirtbag? dirtbag makes good 32's but their 8's can be a little small (for me at least)
