Drills - Hate em or Love them?

Post by Shredster »

I remember seeing somewhere in a challenge thread that "I know you don't like drills, so....."

Okay, after reading that, I realize that I really don't enjoy drills either. What happened to good old fashioned trick > trick > trick?

As I browse the challenge threads, I notice nothing but: Trick > trick > trick (rpt)

I have done this to people too, but I didn't realize that it seems a little annoying to other people, and me, the more I thought of it. I think we should all get more "trick > trick (NO RPT)" instead of all our drills.

I think drills are the shit!!! Drills and hitting stuff both sides and bsos! That's the way to being a solid footbagger. I think the trick>trick>trick stuff should come from your own mind once you've done drills so that the tricks you hit uniquely have your own flair to them.

the more drills you do, the more solidly you can do trick> trick> trick. They train your links, run length, and both-sidedness.

I should take my own advice, and do more drills.

drills show good technical skill and they're good for training but I have always found them pretty boring to watch. I mean it depends - I'm always impressed with good skills and drills usually demonstrate good skills but for example rubberman drill is not as interesting as something like ripwalk>blur>atomsmasher>atomsmasher>legbeater>ripwalk - at least in my opinion. Also it gets a bit boring watching players who hit lots of drills because you know what they're going to hit next before they hit it in the run.

I dunno - I mean drill a lot - it's definitly a really good thing for your game - just in a shred video or more specifically in a shred circle I'd prefer to see non drill runs but I'd still be impressed with a good drill run. I guess it's the same as bsosing moves - I think it's cooler to hit bsos components but not the moves. Like you might hit a run with phoenix, spike hammer and ripped warrior all in it (with the phoenix ending on the opposite side to the ripped warrior) - I think that's more interesting than hitting ripped warrior bsos and shows more skill. Ripped warrior bsos is still really cool - I'm really just saying of two cool things - which I think is more interesting. I mean a shred session can be long so you can hit runs with drills and bsos moves and runs without :)

Drills are a superb way of dialing tricks and links, and are also probably the most efficient way of getting a better foundation of tricks at your disposal.

When you are shredding, I don't think drills are the best way to go despite the fact that I usually do them. Shred is improvisation and should be left to your creative mind and the will of your blaaaaaaaaaaaaadesssssssssssssssssssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I must at least know that I can hit something both sides or bsos before I start improvising (improvising on a tiltless-level, yeah right...). :P

Drills always give me more confidence...

And drilling stuff makes my runs longer.

I personally like them, but I'd like to see a poll for this thread, since there seems to be some serious differences in opinion.

-I like them and what they do for my game.
-I don't like them but like what they do for my game.
-I don't like them and don't think they do anything for my game.
-I like them but don't think they do anything for my game.

Or something like that. :)

I love em

drills are the best way to condition yourself to footbag and hone specific moves and links from moves to other moves and thats broad but moves are good so is punctuation

I think the reason I dislike drills are because I always drop the last trick.

For instance:

Magellen > Pixie SS Mirage (rpt)...there was a while where, even though the last pixie ss mirage was my strong one and pretty easy, I could not hit it.

That is just one of many combos that do this to me. Its quite frustrating, and personally, drilling your good sided pixie ss mirage isn't going to help. Its a mental thing more than any I think, you hit the first 3 tricks of the drill, save your easy one for the last, and drop the last.

This is why I dislike drills, I'm almost certain. I can barely ever hit them because of this, so it gets frustrating which is WHY, I like trick > trick > trick > whatever better.
