Today's session in the city turned out to be a small jam. There was even a sick 1, sort of... CK, Nate, Ahren, Tu, Amelia, Jeremy, Alex (lives in SF), Steve G., Dustin R., and Bryan F. all came out and kicked. I didn't kick much at all and decided to instead scorch my flesh for aesthetic reasons. I did go and ask onlookers if they wanted to try and there were three people who started hacking with me. Then Steve joined the circle and helped one of the guys learn to perfect his stalls. He lives in Phil is going to school in Chicago soon. Maybe he'll get a hold of some of the locals. Anyway, we had Indian food after the session then ice cream at Nate's place. Then the Cruz crew cruised home (in my cruiser). Today was Nate's going away session, Jeremy's day before real work session, Bryan's welcome to the Central Coast session, Amelia's start of the week session, and my end of the weekend and day before school starts session. Quite an event.

Today after bubble tea, CK1, BlackJack, Jackbag (Amelia), Dat, Jeremy, and I played next to the beach in Santa Cruz. The weather was great. Amelia hit 4 pickups which I didn't see any of. Jeremy hit a super nice looking toe drifter rake. I'm sure people hit a ton of stuff but I can't remember anything. That's what their blogs are for.

I felt kind of pukey for a while but had a fun time besides that. There were spectators watching much of the time we were playing. I've never seen some specific moves linked in the way that Team West (Central) Coast was working on in the later part of the session.

Then we had some pizza and complimentary drinks for dinner.

Also, promises kept through the mail.

Bad news: There was no synchronized team footbag today.

Today we six ate breakfast at Jeremy and Amelia's place. We played some good old footbag on the cliffs just above the beach. Bryan and I did some climbing on those same cliffs which some of the CIC crew would have been very happy to be climbing around on. Jeremy went a different but also treacherous way. Later in the day I found out (=someone told me) that there's a big deal about how many people die every year in California (maybe just this area?) climbing on cliffs because the cliffs disintegrate and slip right out from under the people. Yes. Amelia hit her first and second (I think) pixie far clipper. Yay Amelia!

After the session we had an awesome BBQ at my house. Yum! We played crotch fire for the second night in a row. But this time some killer shots were received rather uncomfortably since we were playing with a NET bag. We all played with unlit poi then spun some freshly cracked glowsticks. We rocked. Seriously. After that we all hit the club. Seriously! After a few games of pool, Bryan played an erotic video game with my sister while Cameron, Dat, and I danced on the crowded floor. After dancing for a while, Jeremy and Amelia hung out with the DJ and got invited to the after party but (graciously) declined because it was getting pretty late by that point.

It was a great weekend and I (probably Jeremy and Amelia too) really appreciate that you guys drove down especially with the gas prices being what they are now. A week or so ago it was about $2.67 or so and now it's $3.09-$3.19 in town. Yuck. Anyway, the West Coast is united as a hard core shred scene with hard core players. We're taking this shit from underground to in-ground to the above-ground all access level of play. Watch out now.

Yay, I had a good solo session that only lasted about 45 min. I skooled and had a lot of fun. My warm up was a ton of consecutive kicks. I remember someone saying (a long time ago) that once you get the right rhythm down, consecutives feel like meditation. I remember at the time I felt really uncomfortable with my kicks so I didn't identify with the statement. But it feels good, now. Though, I don't want to give the impression that I can do a ton, and I know I *should* be able to do more easily, but 50 feels way better than 12. I worked on osis for a while. I've been hitting 3-5 (consec.) pretty consistently. Today I got 9 then dropped. Bah. I footed some combos I wanted to hit which was frustrating but fun then I did some drills. I'm happy that the school year has started again.

Edit: If the Aptos crew wants to session later tonight I'm down as long as it's after 9pm. I'll have my stuff with me in case.

Saturday 9-10-05
Power To The Peaceful Festival

Today I read that there were over 50,000 people there. I played a lot of hack with various groups of people. Antiflag played, then MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD. I love the feeling of being with so many people who are that geared up to enjoy themselves. It was neat too, because I met a footbag player named Alex who went to Worlds in Finland this year and knows Carol W., Ann Kaplan, and Tuan Vu. It was neat talking with him. I told a lot of people about footbag.org. My friends and I ate some really good food from the stands. I'm forgetting something good... how frustrating.

Today:
Session with Jeremy.

When I was a young teenager I used to look at people in their cars as they were driving. In rush hour(s) traffic I was surprised not to see more people singing along with music. I was pretty sure that if more people sung in their cars and listened to music that made them comfortable and relaxed, that we'd have see less road rage, and that people's lives would be better in general. How optimistic was I?

The truth is I still believe that, sort of.

I had a hard work out at the gym for a solid hour and a half right before my session with Jeremy and Amelia. It was great, I was so warm before even touching a footbag. Amelia played for a little more than an hour. I out-kicked Jeremy (for the first, and after this comment, probably the only time ever.

) But that was only because he was letting me skool and giving suggestions on how to fix some things. I worked on trying to refine my clippers

, ...I suck at pixies because I have been so bad about (or to be more positive, I've been really good at) ignoring them, bad Emily... skooled stepping, did some infinities, some other stuff I think... and hit stepping far legover and blur for the first time.

And it felt sooo good.
